Happy Disability Pride to all the people who are “too young to be this sick.” There are TONS of us who are young and sick. Ableists should look at those numbers instead of looking at us with disbelief. We’re here. We’re the proof that there isn’t a such thing as “too young” for this shit. Yeah, I have 9 mental illnesses and counting, and I’m stuck in bed at 25, what’s it to ya? Oh no, I’m too young? I’m right here. I. Am. Right. Here. We. Are. Right. Here. The Proof That We Are Not Too Young. “Too young” doesn’t exist.
"you cant get married platonically, marriage is about LOVE and COMMITMENT" yeah love for the bit commitment to the bit
It’s called “environmental amnesia” and it’s an actual issue environmentalists discuss how to combat. The climate crisis makes it more widespread but it’s been something that’s happening for generations. The story of The Lorax describes it beautifully. The idea that what you remember is what you consider normal, but if the changes happen slowly over generations, you don’t see how large they are because you don’t personally remember them being very different, even if you were told stories about it.
telling the kids that theres an among us movie and they get excited and you sit them down and put on The Thing
i can't stop twitter users from migrating to tumblr but if i see someone unironically saying 'unalive' or spelling like th*s i'm blocking
I’m talking about childhood here, not adolescence. This isn’t about getting a job in high school, it’s about what was in your piggy bank when you were ten.
tumblr in 2020:
- posts on your dashboard are ranked by how much the ceo personally likes them
- a widget on everyone’s blogs that publically displays their top five search terms
- images disabled altogether
- they ban you if you have a custom theme
- app crashes at a speed imperceptible to the human eye
- you can buy little outfits for the “t” logo with real money
me a few years ago: its so weird how right wingers always wanna blame the "elite" given that alot of them are in the global 1% of wealth and therefore almost by definition the same "elite" they claim to hate. weird right? lol right wing logic makes no sense
me now: oh my god they mean Jewish people. its always been Jewish people. and the insistence of online leftists to use words like "elite" and "cabal" (to refer to a handful of ultra rich people who dictate a lot of how our lives are run) kinda makes them sound like antisemites too. maybe this whole idea that the world is run by a select few is a gross oversimplification which only serves to reinforce antisemitic stereotypes... oh no. maybe i have a lot of shit to unlearn. maybe i need to start vocally defending Jewish ppl. also local community building is the only way out of this
"Anarchist" but gets triggered when people voluntarily don't wear bicycle helmets.
Me when I know what anarchy is
Gravity legally cannot hurt you if you scream "NO GODS NO MASTERS" immediately before impact
I'm so fucking tired of this bicycle helmet discourse. Bike helmets aren't going to do shit to protect you if you get hit by a car
Most of the time... Bike accidents.... Involve things.... Other than cars...... like the ground....also it's safety gear..... Wearing it is non negotiable.... You are one accident away from being permanently disabled..... You need to protect your brain
Not towards OP
Is OSHA and other safety regulations also cop behavior?
*sigh* The belief that OSHA and other safety regulations are cop behavior are common opinions that people have, anarchist or not. Wearing PPE is annoying and often uncomfortable, sweaty, and cumbersome. People also generally hate being told to be careful, because they believe that "be careful" is synonymous with "hey, you're too stupid to do that without hurting yourself".
But all it takes is one time for you to slip up and suddenly the grinder disk that would have gotten stuck in your safety glasses is in your eye, or you're getting treated for lung cancer because you didn't want to wear your respirator while you welded. These are decisions that you were free to make, but might seriously regret later on.
People will scream until they're blue in the face about how oppressive it is to have to wear a safety vest and hard hat on a construction site, but do you really think that the hammer that slipped out of your buddy's hand is going to take that into consideration when it collides with your skull?
No political theory will save you from an accident. You can either wear your PPE, or can die, unexpectedly, painfully, and slowly. The choice is yours. Go argue with a lathe if you feel so strongly about it.
In the mid-2000s there was a brief fad in Australian government messaging where they went out of their way to insult the public as much as possible.
This fad eventually died out after the tourism board attempted the same style of messaging in the UK, causing a minor scandal which led to the head of Tourism Australia, Scott Morrison, getting the sack.
The first time we drove past the “don’t drive like a cock” sign, my mum looked at it was immediately SO confused - after all she’s a good semi-conservative Christian woman. My brother and I knew it right away but for the next half hour she guessed literally EVERY other word for cock (don’t drive like a rooster, chicken, hen, chick, bird, fowl, poultry) trying her goddamned hardest to make the sign make sense until my - at the time - eleven year old brother got fed up and yelled COCK at the top of his lungs from the back seat.
My mum was FURIOUS - we weren’t even allowed to say “heck” - until she realised he’d just been telling her what the sign was, and for the rest of the three hour trip our good semi-conservative Christian mother proceeded to amuse herself by muttering “cock” under her breath and giggling like a teenager every time she did.
We still bring it up every now and then. So that particular advertising campaign has been making my family laugh for over a decade.
This one was always my favourite, though:
Reblogging to make sure this excellent story is seen
I think if a studio exec says they want to force you to starve to death so you’ll be made to accept garbage wages, you should crush them in a hydraulic press incredibly slowly
Like the fact that rich people have gotten to the point where they think they can just be like “oh yeah I’m literally trying to kill you” without fear of repercussions is beyond infuriating. They need to know what it feels like to be beaten to death by hammers.
what the FUCK is this
Since WHEN have we asked for tumblr to use Twitter's layout. What the hell. I hate this. why.
@staff No.
In light of this new information, I would like to reword my statement above.
Good morning/evening,
As this is an experiment for which you have asked feedbacks for, here is my reaction upon seeing it above, and my more detailed feeling of it now. I will start with the overall layout and my feeling of it, and then touch upon it's accessibility and usability, as seen by me and my experience as a user.
The reason I am not on Twitter and have barely touched Mastodon, is because of this layout. This several columns layout with the "main" one in the middle and squeezed between two other "side" columns feel oppressing, claustrophobic and cluttered. Due to this layout I have been leaving the Tumblr tab more often than I used to, and it makes me want to come back less and less.
As well, I do not like the create button at the bottom of the column on the left as it feels kind of thrown in there and keeps catching my eye despite me, which is very frustrating and annoying and makes me leave the site faster.
This also goes for the "tabs" feature at the very top, which I wasn't using in the first place but feels icky to me.
This layout feels very counter-intuitive, as everything has been switched. Long term users and disabled users relying on muscle memory will have a hard time using the website now. Now, I imagine you think "well, they'll learn", but this is another bad change amongst other, one that literally makes the website impossible to use. It would be the last straw.
I have caught myself several time moving my mouse to the places were things used to be, and felt frustrated when they weren't there, which prompted me to close the website and do something else.
As stated before, the "create" button at the bottom is very jarring and makes it uncomfortable to use as I have trouble focusing on the actual posts I'd like to see. This is one of the reason I liked Tumblr layout more than other website, for it's clean slate look with just the post in the middle, allowing me to easily focus on these and scroll and actually stay on the website, which I'm assuming is what you want.
If you must absolutely go with this design, then I suggest dimming and moving the create button on the right, switching back the search bar and tool bar to left and right respectfully, and removing all the text next to the tool bar, leaving only the icons, maybe with the text appearing when hovering, so it would appear less cluttered and stop battling for my attention with everything else.
TDLR; This layout is overwhelming, cluttered, frustrating, counter-intuitive, and makes me leave the website more often.
I'm sorry I'm not over this yet
Imagine being a marine biologist and a marine biology comes to visit you but you're not home 😭😭
WORK, PAIN AND ME
//
imagined by me, written in pain, made with immense amounts of work. enjoy my magnum opus
AI isn't a threat to creative professions because it can actually make passable art that humans enjoy (it can't). It's a threat because in a capitalist system, employers would do literally anything to not have to pay humans living wages (or any wages, let's be real).
We've been in a productivity boom for the past 60 years, but the one area where production cannot become more efficient is the arts. It takes the same amount of time to write a novel or compose a symphony now as it did a hundred years ago. That's just the creative process.
AI represents a shortcut to making art that has had executives salivating since LLMs and AI art generators hit the internet. It means more content faster with the benefit of not having to provide salaries, sick days, parental leave, time off, or healthcare. It means not having to deal with unions and labour laws. It means cutting humans out of the most fundamentally human activity we do – making art.
All those headlines and clickbait articles about AI annihilating the human race are a hyperbolic distraction from the actual problem we may soon be facing where people won't have the possibility of supporting themselves making art (not that it's particularly easy to do as it stands).
If making art becomes a luxury only for the affluent, we will stop hearing the voices, stories, and perspectives of marginalized people. And our cultural tapestry will stop being so vibrant, diverse, and vital.
“What will even be at comic con without MCU actors and TV shows????”
….How about… comics
