The key point here is that while listeners at first reasonably assume the name “Purple People Eater” refers to a purple creature that eats people, it ACTUALLY refers to a creature (of unspecified color) that eats purple people.
COULD the Purple People Eater be purple? Absolutely. Could one argue that it is LIKELY to be purple in order to blend in with its prey? Certainly! But while we can confirm indisputably that it has one eye, one horn, flies, and plays rock n roll, we cannot make any such authoritative claim regarding its color.
