The most jarring thing about reading quotes from republicans during the AIDS crisis is not how cruel and bigoted they were (which cannot be overstated), but how familiar they are. Calling to forcibly tattoo people with AIDS so they could be identified doesn't just sound like an extreme but dated position of the 1980s; powerful republicans are still saying comparable shit every day. Jesse Helms is running for president in the form of Ron DeSantis. When American liberals and moderates ask "what happened to the republicans," the answer is nothing. They have been just as brutal and genocidal for the past 40+ years, and anyone who says otherwise has been ignoring the pleas and struggles of persecuted groups.

This looks really familiar, if only I had a topologist to tell me what known object has the same number of holes so I could compare the two

NEVER FEAR MY FRIEND! WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING AT IS HOMEOMORPHICALLY IDENTICAL TO YOUR COMMON EVERYDAY "KNOTTED TORUS"

NOW YOU MAY FEEL FREE TO "EAT" THIS "FOOD"

O shit! It's funnel cake!

Housekeepers and Janitors Need Praise As Unsung but Very Much Important

Remember when the NRA told doctors to “stay in their lane” RE gun violence and #thisismylane trended as a result?

One of the tweets I saw was a surgeon who’d taken a picture of her OR, having just finished surgery on a young man who’d been shot. Blood. Everywhere.

This bloke retweeted her, mentioning that he worked as a cleaner in a hospital and had had to clean up stuff like this and worse.

Surgeon replied to him (and went up *greatly* in my estimation) and, despite living in different countries, thanked him for his hard work.

I can’t find the tweets sadly, but hers went something like;

“Without a clean and sterile operating room to work in, my team, our skills and the best medicines in the world are next to useless. You are doing invaluable work, without which my work would be impossible.”

A very, very gentle reminder that "prev tags" is now completely useless, bc you can no longer click back thru the reblog chain and see the prev tags. You can see the reblog in front of you, and you can find the original post - by itself, completely devoid of context - but you can't click thru to the previous reblog. This is apparently intentional, since I literally emailed support about it - being able to click back thru the reblog chain and being able to see the source post in context on op's blog are fundamental parts of the user experience imo and I am pissed - and their response was basically like yeah we meant to do that but if you want to talk about it you can go to our WIP blog, where the ask is literally only open one day a week and we will completely ignore you.
