I just realized that Riku's hand visibly shakes when he tenses his fingers and wrist during his idle animation.

I might as well put it here too, I took this post and used it to start a discussion on twitter because I loved your observation and it's a theory I've had for a while now that you added to!

Riku's battle stance pre vs post injury support this theory as well so I brought it up with your post;

Pre-injury stance: wrist twisted and facing upwards in an offensive stance; uses that arm to dodge by acrobatics and front flips

Post injury: wrist facing down, hand in a more neutral position; stops using acrobatics as a means of dodging attacks

The biggest thing that I personally think supports this is that DDD would count as his Pre-injury body, and for a brief period of time he goes right back to the wrist twisted position. By the time kingdom hearts 3 takes place (which is canonically close in time to DDD) he goes right back to his post-injury stance. Almost as if pre-injury is the preferred stance, but not able to be done anymore.

And all of these observations are consistent with the hand that got hit guarding during their fight;

It wouldn't be the first time Square and Nomura have put an injury that was never mentioned or spoken about beside audience observation either; the most notable I can think of is Noctis, who is shown in a wheelchair as a child, and when running for periods of time as an adult has a slight limp to his run animation.

One more funky thing someone on twitter pointed out in the thread was that in his battle against Roxas, Riku adopts NEITHER of his known battle stances, instead keeping his hand completely neutral and by his side. Which I just thought was neat;

I’ve seen a couple of posts going around that are like “hey, let’s stereotype trans dudes who change their name to Dave”, and then it’s literally just a point-for-point description of my personality and fashion sense, except a. I’m cis, and b. “Dave” is the name my parents gave me, so what the fuck.

were or are  you a homestuck

In the interest of full disclosure, I do wear shitty sunglasses everywhere and own several mall swords, but being as I was like 26 when Homestuck debuted, I’m pretty sure it didn’t cause that.

do kids today know about homestuck pixel families ,

Image

alright here’s some tumblr lore:

Back In The Day(TM) when Homestuck was in its prime on tumblr, there was a popular pixel artist called feastings. They made massive amounts of edits of Homestuck characters as cute little pixels in a variety of different outfits

Image

These spread like wildfire in the Homestuck fandom, and we all started making “pixel families”, where we’d assign a friend/mutual as one of these characters, put the pixel(s) in our descriptions or on a blog page, and then link the image to the person’s blog. It was also fun to use hover text to describe which of our friends was Which character. or maybe a silly anecdote or two

These pixels became so popular that you’d be VERY hard pressed to find a Homestuck who hadn’t seen one before. And then, they became popular even OUTSIDE of Homestuck, because people would take the pixels and use them as a base to make edits of other characters

And That’s The Story! and now I get to feel old as balls TwT

I’m gonna do this now lol

i love it when i know the secret origin of someone’s oc. like yea u can change & evolve them as much as u want… but i’ll always know…. they were a homestuck fantroll

So you’re telling me… the first Homestuck post on Tumblr… was a Homestar Runner reference…

Homestuck has been part of the culture of Tumblr for years, and since the oldest known post about Homestuck was also about Homestar Runner, in a way we have contributed to this culture. Today we celebrate this shared history.

Homestuck Runner…

i recently noticed that @ jetblackcode created a really interesting tool that lets you see your tumblr stats, one of which is a comparison between the number of notes you've gotten on all your posts to the entire userbase! so, i figured a fun reblog game would be to put in your blog and tag which color you got:

i've colored the buckets on the histogram so that it's easier to tell where you landed on the graph rather than just using numbers ^_^

THAT'S. THAT'S A HOMESTUCK JOKE. KANAYAPHOBIA IS A HOMESTUCK JOKE I AM LOSING MY MIND

I've looked through this. The First example of "Kanayaphobia" was in 2013, on urban dictionary, clearly a Homestuck joke. It happens to be one of the first things to show up when you search "Fear of Chainsaws" and some poor oculus employee thought it was real. For those who think it's a coincidence, the root word of "kanaya" means Virgo. Absolutely nothing to do with chainsaws. This is 100%, intentionally or not, a Homestuck refrence

Homestuck and Steven Universe both have an alien empire of multicolored aliens that reproduce weirdly.

And both alien species have their own version of Nicki Minaj

bitey this is just homestuck

Everyone talks about 2011/2012 Homestuck-era Tumblr as being a shit show but like

Remember circa January 2014 Tumblr when part of the site was wrapped up in drama about a proposed Bear and Cop animated series and the another part wanted a humanized clock and notepad to fuck, while another part fought about how the human designs of said clock and notepad were too hetero

That was interesting

has there ever been a point in time where this site hasn’t been a shit show

Fellas, if your game has:

  • A Simple Style
  • An Emphasis on Building
  • Esoteric Crafting Recipes
  • A Leveling/Enchanting System
  • Traveling Through Different Dimensions
  • A Meta Narrative
  • And Frog Breeding

Then that's not your game, that's Homestuck

WHAT IN THE SWEET AND SOUR FUCK IS HOMESTUCK

they literally just told you?

Homestuck Browser

bottom text

I absolutely need everyone to reblog this right now. This is an offline browser meant to read Homestuck as it was intended, with Flash.

This project is absolutely BIG and the person behind it BIGGER, and you guys have no idea how glad I am to have a complete Homestuck archive right at hand that also has stuff like The Baby Is You and Humanimals among so much more. Like what?? It’s the real MSPA.

Please share this. Go to the creator’s Twitter (Bamboshu) and retweet too! Donate.

Also, all the content is less than 4GB? I’d think it’d be way more heavy. You can even save it on a USB and you’ve got the entirety of Homestuck and MSPA in your hands…

okay so I know Homestuck is a meme and all, but like - it is absolutely no kidding one of the most influential works of the last fifteen years? Undertale is fucking massive for an indie game and got the kind of critical accolades that last and inspire all kinds of imitation, and it was started in Homestuck’s author’s garage - its most iconic song was also used in Homestuck for crying out loud. Two of the 2019/2020 Hugo and Nebula nominees for Best Novel, including the Hugo winner, are by former Homestuck fic authors who are open about the fact. I can recognize threads from Homestuck, and, more than that, from those authors’ specific interpretations of Homestuck, in both. Neither the Hugo nor the Nebula are small potatoes! Both those books are going to impact SFF in their own right; it’s gonna ripple out from there. I can name at least three other books published through major houses whose authors spent time in Homestuck fandom. This is just off the top of my head.

I am being one hundred percent sincere when I say that when if we lose Homestuck to the digital decay of Flash, we lose a modern landmark in SFF and experimental fiction. It’s worth grabbing a copy of your own, and this is a service to the world that’s been done here. I’m not joking.
