Star Trek: Voyager 5x09: “Thirty Days”

So we're watching this ep with our preschooler because, I guess, it's never too soon to learn about conscientious eco-terrorism, and we're at this scene which is beloved to me, and the preschooler says, in her tiny little voice, "Look at her face."

Which I was already doing (as I always am whenever the opportunity arises), but still this didn't make a lot of sense... until she clarified that it's just a nice face and she likes it a lot.

"Yeah, it's a nice face," I agreed neutrally, causing my husband to snort at me from the other side of the couch.

Round 1, Week 4: Match 24 of 32

Propaganda as submitted by YOU, in initial entries, tags, and reblogs:

Arthur:

  • Submitted without propaganda :(

Star Trek: Voyager:

  • "The show is basically the definition of “God forbid women do anything” girlboss energy. If more people watched it Captain Janeway would 100% be a tumblr sexy woman."

DS9 sequel from the makers of Picard season 3

  • Sisko's second child is a Rosemary's Baby-type deal reincarnating Dukat's soul
  • Jake, contrary to his entire character arc, has enlisted in Starfleet, because of course he has
  • Sisko keeps saying "I can live with it," like it's his catch phrase
  • Bajor gets occupied again just so that our heroes need to return to the same jobs that they had 30 years ago
  • Kira has retired from military life (she comes back)
  • Bashir and Garak spend 55 seconds of cumulative time onscreen together across the whole ten-episode season
  • Somehow, Jadzia comes back to life; Ezri just disappears from the plot and nobody mentions her
  • Quips(TM), including a fourth-wall breaking laugh line about how "O'Brien must suffer"
  • Julian calls Section 31 "A critical division of Starfleet Intelligence"
  • Rom, Morn, Ishka, Cretak, and Martok all come back (only to be killed)
  • There's one good episode that actually pays of Tom Riker's plot from "Defiant" (and then he dies)

The plot is that they need to find some kind of, like, magic sword that's the only thing that can kill a Pah'Wraith.

I’ll be handing out slash fic under the “special secret table” at cons. Subscribe to my fanzine.

Guys, I have a Yahoo mailing list that’s limited to thirty people, but we have to be careful, so make sure you always put disclaimers on each email about none of this is yours and TPTB shouldn’t sue you.

YES, you have to put that on EVERY email, do you want to get shut down?!?

Make sure to email your age statement to one of the listmods!

Guys, we need to keep the webring to a certain standard, so PLEASE no more sites with frames or pages with background midis. Not everyone’s browser can handle it.

Also, this webring has citrus, so be warned!!!!

I’ll be purging sites that don’t adhere to this request.

When you post to the newsgroup, remember to put a line break every 72 characters so that it’s readable!

I’ve received a cease and desist letter from Anne Rice.

My friend let me have a subdomain on her website to host my fic — want me to ask if she’s got enough room left to make one for you?

Remember to snip email chains, and just quote what you’re responding to! Some people pay by the kilobyte!

All your base are belong to us!

I have to get offline - my spouse needs to use the phone.

What's your embarrassing trek related story, I'll start. I actually thought, until not that long ago, that root beer wasn't a real thing and they invented it in ds9. I thought it was supposed to be an Earth thing but from the future. I wasn't until "Mug Root Beer" became a meme like a year ago that I realised it actually existed LMAO

This isn't a fun one, but. I've said before that Janeway (and Scully) made me gay, and I actually mean that very sincerely - or anyway, that they made me Aware. I was so wildly attracted to Janeway it basically changed my life, and this was at a time when you very much did not admit to such things in front of, for example, your conservative parents with whom your relationship is already fraught. But really just, for safety, anyone who wasn't like you.

But apparently I wasn't playing it as cool as I thought I was, because - well, I can't remember the exact conversation anymore, but I remember being in the car with my dad, and he made some horrifically awkward comment about would I give Janeway a big kiss, which was very obviously aimed at fishing for information regarding his daughter's sexuality.

He turned beet red even before the words were out of his mouth, I, mortified, gaslit the shit out of him, and we never spoke of it again. Still it haunts me. Ah, the 90's.

Also, once I ran headlong into Brent Spiner.

Okay, so neither one is making it to the final round of the best-star-trek-character poll. That's clear now. We all know it. Sisko and Jadzia are just too powerful and this is a good thing.

But I love chaos, so I have to throw us into an alternate reality where hell is real and we can touch it.

Ready?

That essay sounds *amazing*

hahahaaaa well to that let me just say,

But that is very kind of you. I've been working on it for too long to know if it's any good and it's in god's the publisher's hands now, but you, too, can read this obscure piece on obscure things if you convince your friendly university library to purchase a no doubt overpriced copy of [redacted], coming this, uh, fall? spring? god only knows, it's a university press, they make their own rules.
