no one recognizes that ron had prefect duties AND quittich team duties to attend to at the same time (double the responsibilities of h and hr) whilst being supportive towards harry’s ptsd outbursts and preventing hermione from overworking herself before owls WHILE BEING BULLIED BY THE ENTIRE SCHOOL and dealing with (surely undiagnosed) anxiety why do people call him irresponsible no wonder this boy was so frustrated during 6th year.

If Harry Potter where a shonen anime Ron would be the main character. He fits all the tropes. Loyalty, determination, not the brightest but not dumb either, + he eats a bunch. Tall and lanky, he’s Luffy from One Piece if Luffy could swim.

My head canon Draco knows all Weasley names by heart and can tell Fred and George easier apart than their own family. You have to know your enemy to beat them. After his I shall call them all Weasel-Phase he refuses to call them by their nicknames btw. So for example it’s always Ginevra and Charles and William. (He probably makes a name up for Fred, cause “who’s name is just Fred”. Frederik or something, idk)

18th of December, 2021: about 35,000 people (numbers according to the police) demonstrate in Barcelona (Catalonia’s capital city) in favour of schools in Catalonia teaching in the Catalan language.

This comes after a new resolution by Spain’s Supreme Court restricts the time that Catalan schools can teach in the Catalan language (the local language) by imposing more hours in Spanish (the state’s language) instead.

In this context, Spanish supremacist parties like Vox, C’s and PP, with the silent complicity of centrist parties like PSOE, have launched another massive wave of Catalanophobic propaganda and lies aiming at convincing Spanish people who don’t live in Catalonia that Catalans should be further restricted from using their language or that the use of Catalan in schools should be banned altogether, with Spanish as the only acceptable language.

To do this, the far right-wing parties have lied providing zero evidences in TV, radio, social media, party speeches, etc saying that Catalan people defending their right to learn the Catalan language in the schools of Catalonia is “worse than the Ku Klux Klan” and other comparisons to ETA, the Holocaust and Apartheid (even though David Duke, ex-leader of the KKK, has explicitly given his support to Spanish supremacist organisations and the unity of Spain, and has voiced support for Catalanophobia).

To Catalan people and other national minorities under Spanish rule, this whole situation is a reminder of how recent Franco’s fascist dictatorship (1939-1978) is, which banned and persecuted Catalan and all the other languages that aren’t Spanish, and how it remains alive in its political successors (reminder that Vox is openly a pro-Franco party, the founders of PP and many members of C’s also were members of the fascist youth organizations or have other direct ties to the dictatorship). According to the dictator: “We want the national unity to be absolute, with only one language, Spanish; only one personality, the Spanish one.”

During the dictatorship, it was law that children had to be beaten and humiliated in school if they were heard speaking a word of Catalan, since it was mandatory to speak Spanish. Catalanophobia comes from far back, but the idea that Spanish is the superior language and that the languages of the other communities are a threat to be eradicated is still widespread. Even though often under an apparently “kinder” face saying that we must abandon our languages for our own good because only Spanish is “modern”, “universal”, “respectable”, etc., the threats of violence and violent attacks to Catalan speakers are also present, together with widespread mockery, of the language and its people (including celebrating their deaths) that contributes to Catalan speaker’s self-hate and need to switch to Spanish to be respected.

In 2012, Spain’s Minister of Education José Ignacio Wert (of the PP party) said in the Spanish Congress that “our interest is to turn Catalan kids into Spanish kids” (“nuestro interés es españolizar a los niños catalanes”). Now, in 2021, with PSOE-Podemos in government, nothing changes.

We need to stop pretending that the Weasleys are a healthy perfect family.

Seriously, they are not. And by doing so we activity normalise abuse - let me explain why.

The ways in which the Weasley kids get abused are much more subtle then what Harry experiences at the Dursleys. But we know that Fred and George gor beaten by there mother, know that she publicly humiliated Ron with the Howler that screamed at him in front of the entire school.

She obviously has favourite children, some got new stuff, others had to wear old clothes, use second hand books ... all that because they desperately wanted a girl so they got more children then they could provide for with Arthurs job.

The Weasley parents also often looked away whike the children mistreated each other, Fred, George and Ron and Harry where often terrible to Percy, but Molly and Arthur just casually ignored bullying in their own family.

Why don't we discuss those issues?

Well, I d assume that we all somehow want to believe that the Weasleys are as wonderful as we want then to be. Who doesn't want a perfect fictional family?

But when we frame beating, humiliation and having favourite children as normal we are ignoring and normalising a form of abuse that occurs much more frequent then the extreme violence Harry faced at the Dursleys.

Beating and humiliation framed as loving acts are something that happens so much more often and it is incredibly hard to acknowledge that it is, in fact, abuse.

When we downplay and ignore those moments in the HP series and pretend that a family where such things happen is still perfect and healthy we as a community send out a dangerous signal. Especially to those who survived such environments.

We have critically analysed huge parts of the series and I think we should maybe start doing that with the Weasleys as well. And sure, I understand that we all want a perfect fictional family, and we can absolutely have better headcanons, but I think that its important to be aware of the parts we are leaving out.

So pls stop uncritically romanticise the Weasleys, thanks :)
