Hello, dear comrade/occasional visitor!

Some time ago I watched the HBO Chernobyl series and since then, this topic has become a subject of my greatest interest and passion.

Here, on tumblr, I met amazing people, with whom I have a great pleasure to discuss not only the series, but also the real events and consequences of the Chernobyl accident, as well as the personality of Valery Alekseevich Legasov.

Since most of the books on the subject of Chernobyl were written in Russian, I took the liberty of translating some of the most important and interesting (in my opinion) excerpts from these books.

Below I provide links to all my translations, I hope you find them just as interesting and worthy of attention as I do.

I would be glad to see your impressions / discussions under the posts.

Enjoy reading!

Anniversary of the Chernobyl accident. Legasov Readings 2023

On April 26, 2023 - the anniversary of the Chernobyl accident, at the Moscow school 56, which bears the name of Academician Valery Alekseevich Legasov, Legasov readings have been held for the 7th year in a row.

This is an interregional scientific and practical conference dedicated to safety issues, as well as to the memory of the liquidators of the Chernobyl accident and personally to Valery Alekseevich Legasov.

This year I had the honor to personally attend this event.

The conference began with a large plenary session - the school's students, leaders and invited guests gathered in the assembly hall, the school's principal Zhanna Sadovnikova said opening words.

The next speaker was Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, Major General of the reserve Shakhramanyan M.A. with an important topic of fire safety in schools.

One of the graduates of the school, Sergey Vladimirovich Malov, recorded a video especially for the conference. In 1986, he became one of the liquidators of the Chernobyl accident. Much of what he said is mind-blowing - for example, for three months of work in Chernobyl, the cars of his automobile platoon had a mileage of 75 thousand kilometers…

Andrey Timofeevich Nasonov, a liquidator from Tula, also came to the event - a stunningly positive person with whom I was lucky enough to talk personally after the official part. By the way, he sings great (as we all had a chance to see), and also promotes a healthy lifestyle in every possible way :)

Another story was told by one of the mothers of a school student - her father was a musician and during a tour in Kiev, he and his band were sent to Chernobyl to raise the spirits of the liquidators with songs and music.

“When the disaster happened, a huge number of people were in danger, there was no family in all of Chernobyl that would not have been touched by this grief. Both liquidators and doctors selflessly rushed to help the region and prevented a global environmental catastrophe with their actions. No one doubted, did not ask questions, "What if it's too dangerous?", "What will I get for it?" - she said…

After the official part, all the students of the school went to classes in order to defend their projects - reports on ecology, chemistry, medicine, sociology, as well as actual technologies related to the main topic.

It was so great to plunge into the atmosphere of the school, students, look at the younger generation, listen to what they are concerned about and find out their point of view on topical issues of our time….

After awarding the students with certificates for participating in the conference, we went to have some tea and some real Tula gingerbread, which Andrey Timofeevich brought straight from Tula specifically for the event!

We had a great time talking about Chernobyl accident and Valery Alekseyevich Legasov with the principal, students and teachers. It really warmed my heart the way they honor the memory of him and his deeds…

A merch was prepared especially for this year's readings

Now I have it too :)

In conclusion, I would like to express my gratitude to school 56 for the incredible work to preserve the memory of a great man and the feat of heroes-liquidators of the Chernobyl accident.

As one of the speakers said: “it's great that such readings are held at school. Children are our guides to the future, so I am glad that the school annually hosts Legasov Readings, which are closely connected not only with the tragic experience, but also to values that serve as guidelines in the most difficult life situations.”

Thank you for sharing your experiences from this conference @green-ann!

It is so wonderful to hear about all the personal stories and that Legasov's memory just like that of all liquidators, their courage and sacrifice and what Legasov fought and died for will be remembered and passed on to the next generations.

Thank you again for sharing this heartwarming experience with us and that you keep the legacy of Legasov alive for us as well.

New old book

Chernobyl. Days of challenge

The Book of Testimonies

Kiev, 1988

This book is a collection of documentary, journalistic and artistic works by writers and journalists, telling about how together, inspired by the "sense of a united family", our people overcame the grave consequences of the Chernobyl accident…

Another mail from the past.

This issue of the journal «New in life, science, technology. Chemistry» is entirely written by V.A. Legasov and includes a generalized record of his lectures on chemistry within the All-Union Society "Znanie" (rus. Knowledge), which he gave while traveling around the country (as it is mentioned in the book by M.M. Legasova).

Is Chernobyl fandom still alive? 🤔

It very much is thanks to many great comrades 😁🥰 @elenatria answered a few questions from new people in the fandom lately!

Yess it is, I believe @johnlockismyreligion is still on board, so is @legasovas . Also Leonid Toptunov's fanblog on Insta (always active). I'm trying to convince chernobyl.flowers to join us too, her Valoris and Toptumov vids should not be only on Tik Tok and Instagram. 😁 Thanks to her and to @fuerst-von-argot 's commissions I have more Valoris art in the works. 😉

We're still here 👋

I just ended a very long fic and I'm plotting another one.
