we’re cleaning out our book collection and my dad REFUSES to throw out the like 2005 toronto public school poetry anthology that has my fucking, sasunaru fanart as the cover and i’m going to pass out

in case anyone thought i wasn’t legit this is it. my teacher submitted this as an entry for the cover competition without telling me and it won and i had to go to the fucking schoolboard wide award show about it and shitty emo 10 year old me had to get up on stage while everyone clapped while this was projected behind me at a massive scale and none of the adults knew it was a fucking naruto thing but all my peers absolutely did. my father owns two copies and i think it’s the thing ive done that he’s the most proud of me for and it haunts me every day of my life

[ID: matching art plates depicting the moon covering the sun in an eclipse. The shy is black and gold striped, and the moon is a black silhouette. The sun is golden and has rays of light coming off of it.

1: a crescent of the sun is covered by the moon, which is outlined in a gold dotted line. The rays coming off the sun are short.

2: the moon is fully covering the sun, which has longer rays coming off of it, as well as a couple of flares that look like flower petals.

End ID.]

I think one of my favorite creative joys is seeing how many different things people can do with the same concept. give ten writers the same starting point, or basic plot, or set of tropes to use and you're still going to get wildly different end results

the details you focus on, the ones you omit, turns of phrase, tone, and framing, the cadence and tempo of the sentences themselves, all the little fingerprints you've left littered across the prose — how you tell the story matters, and your personal voice is what makes it unique

gay people on the bus

ID: black-and-white three-panel drawing. First panel shows two people with glasses and face masks holding hands and sitting side by side on a bus seat, one's head on the other's shoulder, text with an arrow pointing to them saying "gay people on the bus." Second panel is zoomed out to show more of the bus seats, with this pair from behind and another pair sitting similarly a few seats behind them. This second couple has shoulder length hair and berets. Again, text with an arrow pointing to the first couple reads "gay people on the bus." Final panel is a zoom in on the first couple's faces, with text around them reading "gay people...on the bus..." / end id

I will forever respect Animorphs for tricking kids who are just really into animals to read a book series by going “Hey you, you daydream about what it’s like to be a dolphin or a bird or a wolf? Have I got a book for you!” and then slowly radicalizing them with 50+ books of “There are no winners in war. Whatever ‘victory’ you perceive comes at the cost of sacrificing your own morals and killing the part of you that is human. In the end you will resort to murder, torture and war crimes and the knowledge of what you have done will haunt you for as long as you live.”

I also respect the author for putting them all online for free

Why not find out they’re all online for free
