among us is getting a cartoon: oh, this is gonna be a soulless sanitized kid-friendly cash-grab, probably. maybe it'll make some little kids happy, at least?

the showrunner is owen dennis, creator of infinity train: oh, this is gonna be an animated version of The Thing, basically

“It's taboo to admit that you're lonely. You can make jokes about it, of course. You can tell people that you spend most of your time with Netflix or that you haven't left the house today and you might not even go outside tomorrow. But rarely do you ever tell people about the true depths of your loneliness, about how you feel more and more alienated from your friends each passing day and you're not sure how to fix it. It seems like everyone is just better at living than you are. A part of you knew this was going to happen. Growing up, you just had this feeling that you wouldn't transition well to adult life, that you'd fall right through the cracks. And look at you now, it's happening.”

My greatest fear? Yeah, I'd have to say that it's developing a time machine & going back to November 24, 1971 on a flight from Portland to Seattle to solve the mystery of D.B. Cooper, but wait, there is no D.B. Cooper onboard, and oh god I'm sitting in his seat, and I have to become D.B. Cooper and hijack that plane to preserve history and prevent a paradox

Yours is spiders? Yeah I can see that haha

You used the letter a 31 times!!

And 301 letters, so the letter a is about 10.3%

The letter a is on average used about 8.2% of the time, which means you used it more than average!! :)

Hell yeah time for some Tumblr advanced stats

PSA: bot comments are taking over ao3

The above examples have been provided with the authors' permission to demonstrate what these look like.

Basic rundown:

  • They are all 3 sentences long
  • Perfect grammar, capitalization, and punctuation
  • Like absolutely flawless English teacher-style writing with only a single exclamation mark, ever
  • No mentions whatsoever of character names, settings, situations, or anything that could be tied to the story
  • The usernames may be identical to people who exist on ao3, but the name is not clickable, and no profile is associated with it EXCEPT when you directly search for that name. What this means: the comments come from an unregistered (not logged in) reader, bots scrape the site for real usernames, attach that to the comment, and post

Please spread the word about this so authors can filter comments and report them accordingly

There has been some speculation about why this is happening at all, and the best guess is that this is a feature that AI-training story-scraping tools are implementing to try and make their browsing traffic look legitimate

Readers: if you comment like this usually, add in some identifying detail from the fic (a character name, a line you liked, the name of the fandom, etc.). Don't let this stop you from commenting, please!

Writers: unfortunately I think the best way to prevent these is by locking your fics to be visible to registered users only. It sucks, I know. Also report any comments like this you've gotten to AO3.
