When I read this age 6 I didn’t understand it at all. I didn’t believe you could grow out of fairytales. Age 24, I understand it now. It’s not about growing out of fairytales, but discovering them once again, and fitting the last piece into a puzzle you didn’t quite know you were trying to solve.

At some point, sooner or later, the grief of the world hits you like a sledgehammer, and you’re left reeling and hollow. Everything is wan and grey, beaten down and hard, cruel and senseless. You are unmoored, so you go back to what has moored humankind for the millennia that our species has defied death to survive - you go back to stories.

You go back to the heroes, the knights and the castles, the brave stable boys with naught to their name and the villainous sorcerers that can be outwitted by guileful princesses. You go back to magic. Fairytales remind you of when the world was new (to you) and the boundaries of belief did not exist, for magic was in the everyday, equal parts ordinary and extraordinary. You recover what was lost.

I get it now, Jack. I get it.

And those same stories you read when you were 6 are still there, with their stableboys and scheming wizards. You get the nostalgia for going back to a story you loved, and a brand new magic- escapism, that you never knew you wanted from this story.

The story is the same. It is you who have changed. And what you get out of the story is up to you.

I think people online treat driving too casually tbh, like there was a poll about people's bad habits while driving and they weren't bad habits or problematic or whatever, they were all things that literally kill people every single day. You are driving a massive vehicle that can very easily turn into a murder weapon with your carelessness, take this shit seriously.

Hi the issue with running red lights and doing rolling stops even when there's definitely no other cars or pedestrians is that when you get into that habit, you start getting comfortable with it and you're A LOT less likely to notice when there ARE cars and pedestrians, especially harder to notice pedestrians like children.

There are going to be times when the road isn't clear. There are going to be times when there are pedestrians walking around. Will you notice when that's the case? Or will you just automatically do what you do every single time and end up hurting someone? Killing someone?

I genuinely think that any change in behavior starts w telling yourself that your worst days, worst performances, just worst moments in general aren’t who you “truly are.” It’s all about unlearning any thought process that essentially chalks up traits you aren’t proud of to “this is who I really am” “in reality I’m lazy” “in reality I’m just a bad person” bc not only is that never true, but it impedes your efforts to try to do better as well. Anything we struggle with has roots in things like childhood trauma, thoughts you’ve been fed before, your upbringing…. but never that you’re inherently a bad person. What I’m learning this year is that a lot of us doing better & being better & improving really comes down to self-talk—to disavowing the very notion that deep down we’re simply bad.

5) Vaping is relatively new. Not much studies have been done in comparison to tobacco. Plus, the vaping companies are powerful people. They do not care about you, or your health, or the truth. They only care for money

I think the best advice I ever got to stop myself from getting in my head over issues i was having with a partner/friend was “Are you deciding on ultimatums in your relationship without the other persons knowledge or consent? Are you having conversations in your head where the other party is a projection you supply the responses for? If so; you have done this person a huge disservice in not allowing them to answer on their own terms. You have done so much architecture around this problem in your mind that is impenetrable for anyone who was not there when it was being built.”

That shit really changed my life and honestly? I think made me a nicer person to be around.
