I want to make a game that's about being a traveling herbalist, and in the game you create several cottage shop points in different areas that you can upgrade etc and as you travel to and from them you can upgrade them and recruit people to take care of the shops. These upgrades require foraging and networking among other things. And there are a lot of NPCs to interact with including other merchants, knights, etc Basically the world the game takes place in is in unrest and war is strewn throughout the areas but it's very disconnected from your routine life as a traveling herbalist, your immediate surrounds are picturesque and storybook like, sometimes you come across people needing medicinal aid on the battlefield, sometimes a little kid comes to your shop for something special for their grandmother. Sometimes you utilize your herbalist skills for baking :) Idk it's just something that always floats around my mind
So thinking bout this again...
here's some WIP sketches of the Potion Seller and the Knight, not sure if they're going to stay this way but this is what my brain is coming up with so far
Tuira Kayapó brandished her machete in the face of a government official who was trying to convince indigenous leaders to accept a mega-dam project in the Amazon, 1989
“Electricity won’t give us food. We need the rivers to flow freely. Don’t talk to us about relieving our ‘poverty’ – we are the richest people in Brazil. We are Indians.”
- part of kayapó’s speech during this event
also! she’s still alive! that sort of thing is always worth pointing out to show that we really aren’t too far removed from events like this! here’s a 2019 photo of her:

Pre-Colonial Filipino Mermaid!
One of the most requested historical mermaid designs was a Pre-colonial Filipino mermaid. Of course as a collection of islands there is a huge amount of variation to choose from, and I eventually decided on Visaya fashion with some classic-inspired tattoo designs.

talking to preschoolers is awesome bc they have not fully differentiated stories into 'true stories' and 'imaginary stories' yet so you will tell them about something that happened you once (coyote came out of a bush right in front of you and got startled) and they will tell you about how one time their house was full of coyotes in every room 'including five in the garage' and they're not even like, aware i think of the idea that they are technically 'lying'. they are simply telling stories about coyotes bc its time to tell stories about coyotes.

There’s silent video game protagonists and then there’s video game protagonists who never shut up. Like Zagreus from the Hades game. Dude yells out warnings for you and will have little chats with everyone he comes across whether you like it or not. I think it’s hard to get that right but they made him so charming that you don’t even mind when he shouts about giant evil crystals for the fiftieth time.
A lot of video game protagonists you wonder what they’re thinking about. Zagreus will tell you. Constantly. There is no ambiguity there.
whoops
