the greatest sin of all the misinfo regarding poodle moths is that the little felted guy that's often called a poodle moth is literally a needlefelted Silkmoth. it's silkmoths all the way down

some poodle moth context:

a guy on flickr posted a photo of a moth (likely a member of the Artace genus) and titled it "poodle moth". because of this, there are frequently posts using pictures of domesticated silk moths calling them "poodle moths". which is silly to me because silk moths are very established species!! they got a common name already! i've also seen people post agreeable tiger moths, muslin moths and various other white moths (sometimes even in the same post!) calling them all "poodle moths"

silk moths have really been overshadowed by this guy in a lot of bug posts which is such a shame!!

its possible to personally dislike or fear a creature w out demonizing it. u can be afraid of and annoyed by animals like snakes and mosquitos and roaches and rats etc w out treating them like theyre inherently evil or out to get u. theyre just animals. we're just animals. whether u like it or not they live here with us and its honestly really weird that theres such a pervasive deep rooted habit of anthropomorphizing these animals just to say theyre malicious and actively trying to cause harm

like idk man i just dont think its normal or healthy to look at animals exhibiting their natural behaviors and assume its being done solely to target u. thats just some little beast dude it doesnt know shit. it just knows it needs to defend itself and survive and sometimes that means the paths u cross will be unpleasant, thats literally just how shit works. learn to tolerate and coexist with the creatures u fear and i promise the existence of these animals wont be as scary

No joke or pun here, but I just wanted to highlight that there ARE wasps that make honey. Brachygastra mellifica (left) and Parapolybia escalerae (right) are both Polistine wasps with the ability to produce a sugary substance. B. mellifica is an important pollinator of avocados, however, it is not yet known which flowers P. escalerae pollinate. B. mellifica ranges from Texas to Panama, while P. escalerae is native to Iran, Pakistan and Turkey. A big high five to honey producing wasps!

I actually witnessed someone on Facebook or twitter, I forget which, get absolutely dogpiled with trolls for talking about this because they thought he was just stupid and didn't know the difference between bees and wasps. I bet there's people who will also think this is an April 1st post. I know there's no reason it would taste any different but I I'd still want to try wasp honey :(

Looking for Minecraft Server Staff

The ArchHive, an Anarcho-Communist, LGBTQ+ run, Minecraft and Discord-based community, is entering a new era of gameplay development and seeking new staff to support the changes. We are restarting our Minecraft world to fully implement the programming, lore, resourcepack, and datapack changes that make our server special. Our server aims toward a vanilla Survival experience with enhancements in gameplay flow and an extensive server lore to challenge the player in new and exciting ways.

The staff we’re hoping to bring on to our team will fall into two categories; Builders or Chat Moderators. Depending on an individual’s strengths, they will either help us create ingame locations for our players to explore on the gameplay side of operations, or they will protect our community through filtration of content, keeping our Discord server safe. You can be both a chatmod and a builder if you believe you have the time and energy to do so.

Our staff tend to connect with our players outside of the scope of their responsibilities. We encourage our staff to play in survival with our users in order to experience the server the same way they do. This kind of relationship facilitates more reasonable discussions with them about our authority, and encourages our users to trust and allow us to moderate. This attitude toward power is essential to our team, because as we command respect from others, we must be willing to give that respect in turn.

Individuals interested in helping us develop our server’s reputation, in uplifting our community and connecting with people who share their interests, can join our Discord server through this page. A direct link to the Builder Application form is here, and a direct link to the Chat Moderator Application is here

Additionally, we have a Patreon, which you can use instead to contribute if you have the means and desire to.

Not interested in the additional responsibility of working as a member of our team? No worries! You can join our server as a regular player and still meet like-minded people to play Minecraft with. Our community also regularly plays Stardew Valley (using the Unlimited Players mod by Armitxes on Nexus Mods,) Jackbox, Among Us, and various other online games together. If you enjoy video games with queer neurodiverse people, and if you want to see all of the unique additions we have to offer, join our Discord server, linked above, or through our About page.

Happy Crafting!

just noticing that i have almost 2k followers on here, which like. not as much as some of my other blogs for sure but the last time this blog was seriously active it had like, 400, & idk either way i think it'd be nice to pick back up again, the emojis especially were a nice consistent side-project.

wondering if i should start doing "the lets learn about bugs" thing i was doing where i take a random bug, learn everything i can about it while watching a show, & then write up all of the stuff i found interesting

psa: i love wasps they are the best bugs i would like to kiss every wasp on top of their little wasp heads (but i wouldn’t because they might not like that)
