Goodbye Tumblr

I'm going to be set apart for my mission tomorrow! I'm super excited and it's gonna be a big thing in my life. However, this means that I cannot continue to use tumblr for at least two years. And I have to leave all my blorbos behind. It's worth it, it's just. Hard. So I'm making this post to help myself say goodbye. This isn't forever, it's just for a very long time. I'll come back for you one day, and when I do, I'll be posting episode by episode reactions as I rewatch my favorite shows. I'll be watching the new Marvel movies all in a row, playing Minecraft and being confused about 1.20, and freaking out about all the stuff everyone already knows about Tears of the Kingdom. But for now, I'm putting it all behind me, locking it up in this tiny little imaginary box, and letting it rest until I'm done with my service. Goodbye Tumblr. I'll miss you.

Is it possible to put an OC up for adoption?

So a little background- ever since I was a young child I thought it would be the fricken coolest thing ever for an action hero to beat people up with a hula hoop. I thought, if only you could learn how to use it correctly, a hula hoop would be a fricken awesome weapon. It was more interesting to me than actually hula hooping. Well, after a while, that dream was forgotten- until one day I saw a video of the Native American Hoop Dance. This reawakening my dream, I created this OC.

(Apologies for the picture, I would have picked a different shirt color if I had realized she would look like Steve Minecraft)

About her- genre-wise, she's a magical girl, though I have little experience with the genre, I sorta know the gist of it? She likes Hoop Dancing, Robotics, and Car Racing. When she encounters alien nanobots, she funnels them into her hoops and uses them to create and control a mech suit that transforms as she wills. The nanobots can't read her mind, though, so she has to use the hoops to tell them what to do. Media that reminds me of her is the song GAS GAS GAS - EXTENDED MIX on Spotify, and the show Ms Marvel (yes, I know Ms Marvel is Pakistani, but they have a sorta similar tonal vibe and also that was the vibe I had in mind long before Ms Marvel even came out, it just happened to catch it perfectly)

About the world I created her in- A long time ago, I was thinking of superpowers that would suck to have, because it's fun, and I came up with a character that was completely unnoticeable. She can't be acknowledged or seen whatsoever, and she can't turn this power off. Her backstory/secret identity would be to be that one friend who's just kinda there, never acknowledged or spoken to, but they're always there. And then I thought, wouldn't it be cool if there was a show where there was just this one character in the background of all the main characters, seemingly part of the friendgroup but never brought up by any of them at all, they never speak to her, but she's always there? And by necessity the writing and directing of the show would match her powers and turn the spotlight away from her, even though she's always there. Which means she can't be the main character. So I set about coming up with other magical girls to be in a super team with this unnoticeable girl, and not notice her because of her curse, but eventually notice the evidence that she's there and work around it and be true friends, even though they can't actually perceive her. This unnoticeable girl is so relevant to the nanobot girl I've been talking about because she inspired the world that I invented nanobot girl in, and also because they are girlfriends.

Friends and ships- She is the first to notice the unnoticeable girl, and despite not being able to be aware of her, sometimes is able to instinctively grab her hand. This is special because it is a very long and complicated romance because of unnoticeable girls' condition. But there are three other friends in their magical girl team- a smol bean precious magic of friendship girl who can turn into her D&D character, a gigantic fricking orc with an enormous battleaxe (inspired by a tumblr post I saw long ago that I don't know how to find again), a boy (initially) who is her best friend and gets the power to stretch like elastigirl (it is very important to me that her magical girl form is the only conventionally attractive one on the team), and the one with a redemption arc, who is initially one of the mean popular girls, but has the power to slowly and painfully with many realistic sound effects do a body horror transformation into a gigantic disgusting wyvern (her boyfriend is into it). The point behind this team was that they all got their powers in different completely unrelated ways, but they come together with their various powers and fight.. stuff. Together. I don't know who the villains of the show are actually gonna be. Maybe the cops, at some point. Also one super smart villain who reviews the footage to try and defeat them and discovers that they have a secret fifth member who can't be percieved, which is news to them.

(Apologies for the poor drawing quality, I was a bit rushed and just trying to show a general concept of who they were. I'm aware that her mech suit looks awful.)

Why is she up for adoption? Well, the thing is, I am not Native American. Nor do I know anyone who is. I can't even give her a proper name because of how uninformed I am about her culture. It breaks my heart to do this, but I need to send her away or she'll never be more than a shell of an idea, wasting away and never taking physical form, eventually dying with me. Take good care of her. You don't have to take her friends or world with her if you don't want, I just felt it necessary to explain where she came from to give you the best idea of her character that I can. If I could upload her entire being directly from my brain I would. Flesh out her backstory, give her a satisfying arc. Raise her in a PG environment, maybe pushing PG-13, but don't you dare take her above that, at least in canon. Medium doesn't matter, although I originally imagined her existing in an animated TV show, I know most people don't have the means to make one. Goodbye. I'll miss her, but it's for the best.

TL:DR- I made a character that I love but I don't have the cultural knowledge to do justice to, so I am putting this OC up for adoption by someone who is intimately familiar with Native American culture (I don't know which tribe, which is part of the problem) and can flesh her out and help her flourish as somebodies beloved blorbo.

If you can, please donate to the Internet archive, links in the description. The loss of the archive would be devastating for dozens of reasons.

I know the Library of Alexandria comment sounds like an exaggeration. It absolutely is not. As of May 7, 2022, the Internet Archive holds over 35 million books and texts, 7.9 million movies, videos and TV shows, 842 thousand software programs, 14 million audio files, 4 million images, 2.4 million TV clips, 237 thousand concerts, and over 682 billion web pages in the Wayback Machine. It’s been operating since 1996, the loss of knowledge would be impossible to ever completely come back from.

The lawsuit from Hachette Book Group, HarperCollins, John Wiley Sons, and Penguin Random House alleges there have been significant revenue losses because of their controlled digital lending program. For context, most libraries in the US also use CDL to distribute books to their patrons wherever they are but those programs are run through for profit companies and the libraries are often paying a very high fee to so their patrons can have access to digital books. The Internet Archive’s program is completely free but they have a policy of not digitizing and lending anything less than 5 years old.

The lawsuit goes on to note that authors often own larger shares of their revenue of digital vs. print copies of their books. So the publishing companies, seeing that they’re underpaying their authors, are essentially blaming a library for being free instead of bumping up what authors earn on print copies. The Internet Archive’s 5 year policy is designed to protect authors anyway as that’s when books typically make the most money.

So I have read Legend of the Fire Princess and y'all were RIGHT it IS fantastic. To realize that the entire scenario was engineered by Entrapta is next level villainy and I absolutely love her. And you weren’t lying, she did burst through the wall like the Kool-aid man. And I can’t believe it! Scorpia and Catra are actually friends confirmed! Super Pal Trio is the Best! I also have questions. To clarify, I thought all the runestones were created by the First Ones. This story proves that they were not, because they tried to make one and it blew everything up. Also, if the synthetic runestone they tried to make was for fire, does that mean that the elemental runestones don’t have an element of fire? I mean, I guess fire isn’t an Essential element, but there are natural runestones for both water and ice, how are those being held in balance? Well, I’m happy with the story anyway. It was great and I loved it, and I’m gonna be watching Season 3 as soon as I can.

Yep!  Entrapta at her mad-laughing best!   To be honest, the show’s and comic’s handling of the Runestones is…confusing to me, too.  I am honestly left with more questions than answers about them.

I have done a lot of theorizing and I reckon that the Runestones were a natural part of Etheria but they were connected to each other by the First Ones.

To be fair on the elemental runestones I don’t think Ice is a different element to Water in most situations, and the Wind princess is NON-elemental, and one of the elementals is Glitter, so….

My favourite part is when Bow begs Entrapta to rejoin the rebellion and asks her if tech is all she cares about and she gets upset and pretends not to hear him, siccing more robots on the poor guy. It’s probably the most Catra-like she gets.

Avatar

Bro.. I thought she legit didn't hear him. *Goes back and re-reads that part* ..I still legit think she didn't hear him. I thought she was just upset because he was distracting her, like she literally said, but I guess there's the interpretation that she was actually hurt by it and just pretended.. I don't think she would do that though.

She-Ra Season 3 Reaction

Yo. Just. I'm in awe. This show is AMAZING. As great as it is to see Catra go farther down the path of deranged depression, I'm sad to see the Super Pal Trio fall apart. Her obsession with one-upping Adora has led to her alienating herself from her friends, and even sending Entrapta away and lying to Hordak about it. It's awesome to see her be all mean and scary, but I'm also sad for Entrapta and Scorpia. In another world, perhaps things could have been better- and then we see another world where things are better. Holy crap, I love the concept of reality breaking down and just gaslighting you. It's such a fantastic premise for all kinds of scary stuff, and I love it. Of course, Adora had to stop it, or reality would have crumbled, but it was epic while it lasted. And Catra being all half-disintegrated and everything was cool too. And now the Horde as a whole is discovering the empty dimension that Mara sent the entire planet to to escape them! So that's fun! And Adora saw stars for the first time! In an alternate reality where Mara didn't open the portal, or something? That was kinda unclear what the heck was going on there. OH! And Glimmer met ShadowWeaver and I sincerely hope she learns some dark magic! I've been itching for that ever since she did the burst of dark lightning to defeat Scorpia in the Season 1 finale. I swear there better be some payoff to that, now that I know for certain that She-Ra didn't heal her from that curse at all because she didn't even know how to at that point, and because ShadowWeaver taught her dad and like father like daughter, yaknow? And it was super sad that her mom died, but I think it thematically tied up her arc pretty well. At least Glimmer doesn't have to keep sneaking out now. Her mom's main influence on the show was arguing with Glimmer about how she can't be expected to do the thing that she obviously needed to do to save the world. I'm not saying I'm glad she's gone, I'm just saying most of the time she was obstructing the heroes instead of helping them out. Like I said, it tied up her arc really well to have that sacrifice. The only thing that bugged me a bit was that everyone kept saying that the reality shifts weren't real, when Madame Razz literally said that they were, and I believe her. The sword was breaking down reality itself, and if reality itself is changing, then it's real. It's not some illusion. Glimmers mom whose name I can't remember died in the "fake" reality, and she died in the real reality, because that "fake" reality wasn't FAKE. I was really hurting when she left her husband saying it wasn't real, because I knew it freaking WAS. Since the Horde never existed, King Micah never died. Simple as that, just an alteration to the fabric of reality, time, and space. In fact, if they could harness the power of the portal reality breaking mechanics without actually, yaknow, breaking reality, they could have probably brought back King Micah permanently. He was real and he could have helped. In fact, he could have sacrificed himself to grab the sword instead, and his wife wouldn't be trapped in the space between dimensions because he would stop existing anyway. Problem solved! It annoys me when people say that alternate realities aren't real. Just a real pet peeve of mine. If you're experiencing it, it's real. Doesn't matter if it's time travel, multiverse, reality shifting, simulation, hallucination, whatever. The nature of how that reality works may be different, but it's still real and it still has a real effect. I've gone off rambling in some random direction. Getting back on track, She-Ra! Good show. Watch it.

The phrase "become unprofitable" has stuck in my head for ages now. I kinda want it on a T-shirt, but I'm aware of how ironic that would be. Can y'all make this a thing? In the case of Tony the Twitch Tiger, of course, but also in all other walks of life? Become unprofitable. Has a nice ring to it.

Cinderella rewrite where Cinderella’s father is an unusually successful fisherman due to his secret friendships with the shy and mysterious mermaids, successful enough to attract a moderately wealthy and ambitious bride with two daughters. Once he dies, her stepmother, determined to make sure her daughters inherit the fishing business as dowries by marrying before Cinderella, forbids her from going out on the fishing boats or into town and makes sure she spends as much of her time as possible doing drudgework, hauling offal and cleaning fish. When the Prince’s ball comes around, an important occasion for young women to make good connections, the stepmother forbids her from going, telling her that she needs to get the latest salmon catch gutted and ready for sale instead.

Cinderella’s mermaid godmother calls upon her people to clean the fish and gifts her a dress and shoes of shimmering fish scales that wreathe her in rainbows under the moonlight. She makes an impression on the Prince at the ball so strong that he immediately falls in love with her, and when she’s forced to flee before her stepmother notices her (no masquerade mask or dancing rainbows will disguise her from her own family at close range), the Prince is left with only a delicate fish leather slipper left on the front steps to try to find her again.

He goes around the houses, seeking the owner of the slipper, but Cinderella is once again working in the fish sheds. He stepmother, desperate and determined and having found Cinderella’s other shoe that very morning, realises what has happened and takes a knife to the feet of her prettiest daughter, telling the prince that she suffered an injury that very morning but those are definitely her shoes, see, here’s the other one, and they still fit.

The daughter is pretty and witty and charming, and while the Prince doesn’t feel the same spark and instant sense of connection that he did at the party, he reasons that she’s overwhelmed and in pain and once she’s healed, all will be well. There are no birds to whisper of blood in the shoe – the Prince has seen the bandaged feet already – and the daughter slips on the shoes (the only shoes she has that will fit her, now,) and accompanies him to the palace.

But the stepmother is no doctor, and by the time the Prince gets her to the palace doctors, it’s too late – his beloved has contracted an infection in her feet from the shoe leather, made unclean in its travels. She will survive – it is an infection of a common filth of fish and birds, one that the doctors have potions for for the occasions where dangerously cooked food causes outbreaks – but in her raving, she confesses the whole scheme to the Prince who, furious, returns to the village to find the girl he truly fell in love with, the girl hidden from him.

“Oh, yeah, the fish cleaner,” the villagers shrug. “We don’t see her around very much, she’s probably in the sheds. Her family calls her Salmonella.”

The mattress being too soft would feel like it's consuming her cause she's not used to it, but being too hard would give her flashbacks from the war. It takes a delicate balance.

I was in line at Aldi and this girl with two toddlers in front of me had her card declined and she looked so fucking sad and said “let me call my husband real quick” and it was only 18 dollars, so I just paid for it, and she was very sweet and then as she walked off, the lady behind me said `”You know that was probably a scam, right?” and like, even if it was, like what a sad fucking scam, right? 18 dollars at the Aldi. If you’re “scamming” me for some Tyson chicken and apple juice and cauliflower, then just take my fucking money.

“A scam” people are fucking wild.

This happened to me, too. A woman had used WIC for the majority of her stuff (which I say from personal experience is such a long and embarrassing process) and to buy the remainder of her groceries, which included diapers and wipes, she used a card, and it got declined. I bought the other $30 of her groceries because hey, I’ve been there, and now I’m not. She was extremely emotional and began to cry and even hugged me. My mom called me on the drive home and could tell I had been crying myself, asked what was wrong, and when I told her what happened, she berated me for being “duped.” I couldn’t believe she could be so disappointed in one of her children for doing something- nice? Is that the hill you want to die on? Getting mad about people needing groceries?

I once paid for a woman’s bill at the vet…it wasn’t a big one, but she was trying to pay for some medication for her dog, and her card was declined. And her lip started trembling, and she says “I don’t get paid until Tuesday, would he be ok until then?”

So I just told them to add the $20 something onto my bill, and I thought she was going to break down crying right there.

And I don’t care if it was a scam or not. Just do nice things for people sometimes.

Do good recklessly.

I think “Do good recklessly” would be fantastic word art to hang on one’s wall. Artistic people, go!

So this has happened to me but from the other side. Several years ago when my oldest was around three or so, I had my debit card decline at Walmart. It wasn’t a scam or a mistake, I was genuinely broke. Out of money. I checked my bank and discovered I had something like 7 dollars left to my name and a hungry kid and nothing to eat at home. So I sat there trying to come up with the best way to stretch that tiny amount of money to feed my kid. Not even to feed me. I can live on popcorn or something if I have to but my kid was three and he had to eat. So there I am trying really hard not to cry while I slowly take things out of my basket to get it down to under 7 bucks, when a lady tapped me on the shoulder. I looked up and she smiled at me and started putting the things back in my cart. I opened my mouth to tell her that I didn’t have the money for them but she stopped me right away and said “Don’t worry about it. It’s gonna be fine.” Then she handed the cashier her credit card and said “Ring up all of it.” My kid got to eat because of her. I got to eat because of her. I had laundry soap and deodorant because of her. She could’ve just ignored me silently struggling in that line. She could’ve decided I was a scam and gone home feeling good about avoiding being duped. But instead she chose to help me and she saved us. So maybe the person struggling in front of you is trying to put one over on you or maybe they are just sad and broke and trying to figure out what to do. You get to decide which you want to believe and what you want to do. But I’ll tell y’all, no one has ever been more beautiful to me than that lady in that line who saved me and my baby. Be like her. Be beautiful.

One time, my dad and I were living the grocery store and there was a guy outside asking for money to buy some stuff to take home for his kids. It was around Christmas time. My dad asked him if he could give him groceries instead of money, and the guy immediately said yes, so my dad gave him one of everything we bought (meat, rice, some chocolates, milk, oil). At that time, my dad hadn’t gotten his paycheck because the company he worked for was going through a tough time, but he didn’t care, he saw an opportunity to help someone and he did.

Another time, my dad gave 50 bucks to a guy who said he needed to buy medicine for his kids. I told my dad he was probably going to spend the money on alcohol or something, but my dad said that “whether he was lying or not says something about HIS character, but hearing someone in need and choosing not to help when I have the means to says something about mine”.

I never forget that.

So I've watched the first half of She-Ra Season 3, and I've just got to say, ALSkdgnvaleriugfljaseriwogjdloairgdfujimphcxmnlajresilqhgawsrlfd,jv3mierjlqIJelew.jgwijlrleawiwzejlferijgiwaeslhtlozs,exiti,usxjeriotlwliqjlsajdlsijtl,sajlfjiasl.esjgijsldjgisjlsdjfdajiesjflk;aaiwirupqmmcnAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!! I can't quite capture the full keyboard smash here because it kept going into settings and opening windows and changing stuff and logged me out at one point, but you get the gist. IT'S SO FREAKING GOOD!!! Adora is starting to understand Mara, and the price of being She-Ra! Entrapta is making friends with Hordak and helping him with prosthetics to be his best self! CATRA WAS HAPPY! Let me say that again. CATRA WAS HAPPY!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAORPifjalszdvm, cskoemivrikjglsm,rjFAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!! Scorpia and Catra were bonding so much! And I love that they weren't taking any of the threats seriously! I mean, you gotta love a girl that's got nothing left to lose and is TOTALLY FREAKING SCARY, ya know? Catra being so menacing and Scorpia being so cheerful about it and them being best friends and Catra finally ADMITTING IT?!? and I wish so badly that they could stay like that forever, having parties and roaming the wastelands! And Catra found out about parties! That's what radicalized Adora in the first place! Catra probably would have stayed and not given the sword to Hordak if she hadn't known that ShadowWeaver went to Brightmoon! She wouldn't have gone back to the Horde if Adora hadn't tried to convince her not to go back to the Horde! MY MIND IS FREAKING BLOWN!!! I think this has been my favorite few episodes of the ENTIRE SHOW so far. My gosh. And Entrapta when she said that imperfections are beautiful and then the sparks lit up her face like that? How the heck is Entrapta that pretty? I have problems. Bruh. I've been squealing and shaking and jumping around for the past half hour and I probably will be for the next few years or so. I love this show so much.

She-Ra Season 2 Reaction

BRUUUUUUUUUUUUUH This show is SO GOOOOD!!! I honestly just. I don't know what to say. I love love LOVE the Super Pal Trio. Entrapta is best girl, super genius and adorable super ominous villain extraordinaire, Catra is such a bad sad girl, the mommy issues with ShadowWeaver were something I never expected, and then there's Scorpia holding them all together! I sincerely hope that Scorpia gets her wish and we can one day see the Super Pal Trio play board games or just have some fun out of work hours. ShadowWeavers backstory as LightSpinner was interesting, too. I wonder if we'll ever see what happened to her apprentice whose name I forgot. I also wonder what if her apprentice turned out to be Glimmer's Dad and that could lead to more evidence for my theory about Glimmer becoming an Epic Princess of Light and Darkness, which is sorely needing more evidence but is not yet outright disproved. Bow's parents are nice, too! I loved that finale episode. Best friend squad is pretty okay, I guess. I'm not as invested in them as I am in the Super Pal Trio, but I think it's growing on me. I honestly think my favoritestest part of Season 2 was the episode in the snow with the big bugs. I saw them and was immediately chanting WORMS WORMS WORMS because I knew it was gonna be a fantastic episode. And it was! I think Drunk Adora is one of the funniest things in the show, and I'm glad she had a heart to heart with Scorpia and Seahawk. And I'm calling it right now, Mermista isn't actually hanging out with other friends, she's just trying to avoid Seahawk. At least he's starting to believe in himself and not depend on her opinion of him as much. He may eventually start to get a clue. And the episode where the princesses all played D&D was fantastic. Bow, at this point, you just gotta make minis for everyone. It's come up more than once. Anyway, I love this show! I'm gonna try to watch Season 3 this week, but if I can't, I'm probably not going to be able to continue for a long time. I'm gonna be going on a mission for the next two years, but once I get back I think I'm gonna rewatch everything from season 1 to catch myself back up.

(Edit 12/9/2022: For those who are asking if there’s leaks, there are. I’ve seen them on twitter. Mostly they’re backgrounds but I wouldn’t put it past Disney or others to eventually leak episode screenshots or something. Haven’t seen the leaks on here but it’s only a matter of time until they come on here. Dana has asked the fandom to not share these leaks and her wishes should be respected.)

How about “It’s about damn time.”?

Book mark this article, find the source study and bookmark that too. Drown them in facts, in truth, not to change their ways but to make sure they cannot spread their lies to others.

We just got handed a powerful tool against the transphobes. Use it.

Roe being overturned is really not a good time to be like “well we voted in Democrats and they didn’t fix it!!1!!”

First of all, there are not nearly enough progressive Democrats in the Senate to reasonably expect legislation like this to pass without overturning the filibuster, and not enough candidates who favored overturning the filibuster made it into the Senate. We barely have a majority at all, nothing close to the 2/3 we would need without ending the filibuster. So there’s that.

Second, it’s a bad time to make this argument because voting literally absolutely could have prevented this outcome. 100%, without a doubt, if the 2016 election had ended differently, we would not be here today.

Third, there’s no reason you can’t protest and organize and volunteer and donate AND vote. Even if you’re not convinced, it can’t hurt. Even if your candidate doesn’t win (!), minds are changed every time a progressive campaign gains traction. Even if you can only chip away at a Republican majority in a red state, over time it makes a difference. (Please see: The state of Georgia.)

Finally, there’s no reason to reasonably expect anything to change if you don’t vote for pro-choice progressive candidates at every level of government. Staying home is the one way to guarantee Republicans win and nothing changes.

TLDR; do all the other stuff. But also vote.
