If the last episode of It’s Always Sunny really was Dennis’ last episode, then it would be a major disservice to his character to let him end with a “happily ever after”, since the past 12 seasons have established him as a creepy, dangerous, unhinged, predatory, narcissistic, sociopathic asshole.

This is a guy who flew into a rage when a stranger insulted his car, who hunted down a man (and presumably harmed him) who 'shushed' him in a bar, who has a 'system' for dating/terrorising/dumping women, who has bragged about never letting the words “no” or “stop” get in the way of having sex with a woman, who has a secret compartment in his car filled with duct tape and zip ties (and was going to use them on a group of people who rejected him), who physically attacked Mac because Mac wouldn’t look at his face while talking to him, who destroyed a man's house and set his lawn on fire to get him to participate in a drinking competition, who poisoned a bunch of frat guys because they made fun of him, and who wanted to kill his neighbor with a fire poker because he was sick of being asked about the weather.

I mean, I love Dennis as a character. But there's no way the show can convince me Dennis is a good person deep down (no matter how much he claims to have “big feelings”), let alone someone who should be anywhere near a child.

RE: Mac pining for dennis as a joke? Pisses me off possibly even more than closeted mac jokes.

Us Macdennis lesbians can easily forget that lots of shitty dudebros watch this show as well (i make an iasip joke in my dorm and a bunch of boatshoes wearing fuckos suddenly perk up its awful). And tons of dudebros who are “totally cool with gay people” have that underlying homophobic fear of their gay friends hitting on them. AND MAKING THAT INTO A JOKE VALIDATED THAT BIGOTED FEAR!

When mac was in the closet and didn’t know, you at least got the sense that we were sympathizing for him? But these past scenes played like we were supposed to sympathize with Dennis, like “Oh boy that gay man is gonna come for the straight boy watch out!”

And the same fuckboys that idolized barney on howiMet ur mthr will idolize dennis. and they’ll laugh at Mac and laugh at gay man for having the audacity to try and flirt with men who they later find out are straight.

tl;dr: Out Gay Mac pining and being rejected was written poorly to make fun of Mac, and make fun of gay people who have a crush on their straight friends.

I wasn’t going to say anything but this, plus the fact that Dennis left Mac for the Most Heterosexual reason possible, kinda pissed me off.

give it time. i will be willing to bet that the first episode of next season will feature dennis returning to philly with his tail between his legs after realizing (once again) he is incapable of living a “normal” life, and being horrified to discover that the gang has moved on without him and mac is now dating some muscled ‘beefcake’ (hopefully rex!) and has all but forgotten about dennis.

although i’m like super happy there’s so much iasip everywhere atm part of me is rly apprehensive about the massive influx of macdennis blogs over the past month or so ……

@ all newcomers this is not superwholock this show is dumb trash where literally no plot point matters at all & it’s rlly Not That Deep

i’ve been cackling all night at the people who are pissed at the finale because they think the show has been “leading up to macdennis for 12 seasons”. you can tell they've never watched a single episode before Hero or Hate Crime.

i just… the very core of dennis’ character is that he thinks he’s so much more well-adjusted than the rest of the gang when he very clearly is Not and like… to have him actually make a normal, reasonable decision for unselfish reasons in this episode completely undermines that imho.

I’ll be willing to bet the first episode of next season has Dennis returning to Philly with his tail between his legs. It makes sense for him to think he can raise a kid better than Frank raised him and Dee. But Dennis, being Dennis, can’t pretend to be a ‘well adjusted’ guy for long. There’s no way he’ll be in North Dakota for long.

Dennis on MULTIPLE occasions has said he would never be a family man, let alone raise a child!!!!!! So where is this all of sudden change of heart, it doesn’t add up

Not really though? Dennis has always seen himself as a “typical guy” who wants the wife, the kids, and the white picket fence. Hell, the whole reason he married Maureen after dating her for a single day is because he always thought he’d be married by the time he was 30. And when he moved to the suburbs with Mac, he was genuinely excited to have a “normal” house and thought the suburbs would “soften his edges”.  So it makes total sense that he would want to be with the kid, and his over-inflated ego would make him think he would be a good dad.

The problem with Dennis is that his fantasies rarely match up with reality. He sees himself as the most well-adjusted member of the group, but in reality he is a deeply miserable, predatory, rage-filled, asshole who can’t adapt to change. It’s not out of character for Dennis to want to raise a kid (and to think he’d be good at it). It IS out of character if he stays in North Dakota and lives happily ever after. I’d be willing to bet the first episode of next season will have him returning to Philly with his tail between his legs.

I don’t get the IASIP hate

Am I the only person in the fandom who isn’t pissed off at RCG and doesn’t think they have been queerbaiting?? I’ve seriously seen people say the show has been “leading up to MacDennis for 12 seasons which ended in nothing” and I’m just baffled. What the hell show are these people watching? Because it certainly isn’t It’s Always Sunny! The show has never been about MacDennis. There’s a whole ‘nother three

It’s not out of character for Dennis to want a wife, kids, and a white-picket fence because it’s been established multiple times that is how he always pictured his adult life. It’s not out of character for him to think he’d be a good dad, because Dennis thinks he’d be incredible at anything he puts his mind to. It’s not out of character for Mac’s interest in Dennis to waver between co-dependent devotion (checking in with Dennis every hour) to insulting disinterest (Mac saying Dennis can’t be on the billboard because he’s “in decline” and “no longer a stallion”).   It’s not out of character for Dennis (or anyone else from the gang) to ditch the rest of the gang to achieve a scheme or goal (just look at The Gang Is Held Hostage as an example of how each member of the gang schemed to put each others’ lives at risk in order to keep themselves safe). The long-running theme of the show is that these people are deeply miserable with their adult lives, and come up with ridiculous schemes to better their lives, then inevitably fail and return to the miserable status-quo.  Anyway, next season I hope Dennis eventually returns from North Dakota after failing miserably at being a father, and is horrified to discover the gang moved on quite easily without him and Mac is now dating some beefcake that looks nothing like Dennis.

beyond it being terrible queerbaiting if mac didnt come out in hero or hate crime, it would be a bad choice comically bc honestly? in the closet mac isn’t that funny anymore

Yeah, the older they got, the sadder it was that Mac wasn’t out. The poor guy is in his 40s now. About time they let him be out and proud!

IM REWATCHING PTSDEE AND HOLY FUCK

the scene where dennis and charlie are talking about how stripping isn’t rock bottom and how dennis can’t believe the stripper is traumatized because he “had sex with one disgusting bird” charlie has the most SUBTLE response like “yeah, yeah….” with a nervous laugh and dennis says “cmon man that’s not trauma, not real trauma” and charlie nervously laughs again and says “yeah it’s not even that bad” almost to himself with a subtle ass head shake like i’m 10000% convinced charlie and dee are still sleeping together and charlie might even have feelings for her like literally go rewatch that scene again it’s SO SUBTLE but definitely has meaning and the chardee conspiracy lives on!!!

I’m hoping Chardee Macdennis is endgame!

I’m seeing a lot of mixed emotions about ptsdee. Yeah the ending was fucked up-but, that’s kind of the point. I mean, the fact that they’re still able to make these characters as depraved as possible is pretty incredibly. You’d think at some point there’d be a limit to how far they can take it. “Surely, they cant get much worse than ___, right?” Yet, here we are, 12 seasons in, and still shocked at how completely awful these characters can truly be.

Yeah I’m surprised how many fans were saying the end of the episode was ‘too dark’. I mean, we’ve seen things like Frank tricking Dennis and Dee into digging up their mother’s corpse, Mac starving a dog to death then putting it in Dennis’ food, the gang holding the Mexican family hostage and destroying their house, Charlie faking cancer to get the waitress to fall for him, Dee’s fake baby funeral to scam the government out of money, and then there’s the Halloween episode where it’s heavily implied Dennis had sex with his sister, etc.  The stripper grinding his dick against his daughter seems pretty mild by comparison! lol

Something I gotta point out, and correct me if I’m wrong, but Dee didn’t push the stripper to dance on his daughter. Just for her to be in the audience. It’s a coincidence that that’s the girl he chose. Also, didn’t she tell him his daughter was going to be there? Not that he should have been expecting that. But still… I’m not trying to start a morale thing, just observe. I’m not sure if Dee’s plan went further than she wanted, or if it was a happy accident on her part. She did seem a little embarrassed/regretful at the very end when the others said it was really dark. Though that probably is some realization of how much her life has sunk and is falling apart/ not as planned.

My interpretation was that Dee intentionally put the daughter at the front in hopes that the stripper would touch her or grind on her. I didn’t see Dee as regretful at the end; she seemed proud of herself and how her plan worked out (which doesn’t usually happen for her lol) and just didn’t want the others to bring her down. Sometimes we forget that Dee can be just as dark as her brother, and I love it when the show reminds us how fucked up and mean she can be.

I don’t know about you guys but I actually loved the ending of PTSDee when its revealed that Dee was really just trying to get revenge for Mike saying he was her rock bottom. I loved it because near the beginning of the episode Dee says she is the type of woman who “makes men’s lives better” which is pretty cringey and gross. And for a part of the episode Dee really is trying to fulfill this gross societal role placed on women that we have to “stand by our man” and “be a rock” and “behind every great man is a woman” or whatever and eventually she just goes fuck this and gets her revenge in the darkest way possible WHILE also highlighting the sexism of the whole situation. Mike’s rock bottom should be that he didn’t even recognize his own daughter and fucking humped her face. Dee couldn’t have done what she did if Mike was a part of his daughter’s life or at the very least knew what she looked like for fucks sake.

Dee has always been a character that defiantly does not adhere to the expectations placed on women and her eventual rejection of the “be a rock for your man” role for women was the best display of that I’ve seen on the show in a long time.

So true! One of the things I love most about Dee (and Kaitlin Olson) is that she isn’t the stereotypical ‘nag’ or the ‘voice of reason’ that women are often relegated to in comedy shows like this. She is as gross, and mean, and horrible to other people as the guys are. She also unashamedly has one-night stands with random men and openly enjoys sex, and nobody ever slut-shames her or makes her feel bad about being a woman who enjoys an active sex life.  It’s a refreshing breath of fresh air.

im honestly so tired of seeing its always sunny in philadelphia posts on my dash. did everybody just Forget that episode where they paraded around in a nazi uniform????

Um...idk if you’ve ever actually watched the show since none of those facts are even remotely true. I’m not claiming IASIP is perfect, but the show is satire. We’re not supposed to laugh WITH the characters, we laugh at them and we WANT to see them fail (which is what they do almost every episode).

They never “paraded” around in nazi uniforms. They openly hated their nazi grandfather and only used his uniform as a way to get money, and were rightfully shot down IN THE SAME EPISODE by the museum owner they were trying to sell it to, who was horrified that they were trying to profit from a war criminal’s uniform. They ended up burning the uniform. Also, when did they refuse to sleep with Carmen (the trans woman)? Carmen was one of Mac’s longest-running relationships and it was made very clear it was a sexual relationship. And Mac was the one who was portrayed as the asshole for the way he treated her.. In fact, Carmen is one of the only few characters on the show who not only left the gang unscathed, but got a happy ending - she got married, had a baby (which Dee was the surrogate for), and lived happily ever after. Carmen was never the joke. Mac’s bigotry and internalized homophobia was. And he got his ass kicked (literally) because of it. As for the racism....that’s another thing that is satire, and it genuinely upsets me that people don’t get that since it’s a big point of multiple episodes. The whole point of this season’s premiere was to show just how little they truly know about what it’s like to be a minority, even though they claim to be super progressive. They’re never openly racist, and the nasty things they HAVE said in the past are never played for laughs and are always shot down by the people around them. The jokes revolve around how scheming, selfish and money-hungry they are, and how they could genuinely run a successful business if they weren’t so easily distracted by each other’s scheming and selfish behavior.  The show wouldn’t be funny if it was about people who are genuinely bigoted and hateful.
