This is a map of the range of all giraffe species. By my count that puts them in just 16 countries out of the 54 in Africa (of which 5 are island countries with no territory on the continental mainland). That's 30%, quite a long way shy of all, and as you can see many of those countries that do have giraffes only have a tiny portion of their territory within giraffes' habitats

Wow, I knew they weren't in "every African country", but I didn't realize just how restricted their range was

Good teachers don't mind saying "I don't know" or that they need to look it up and will get back to you.

Not only that but giraffes in different areas have different patterns and it's so cool

Masai giraffes look cool af

The Masai giraffes are stuntin’ on the heauxs!

Masai Giraffe:

Reticulated Giraffe:

The maasai are also the name of the nomadic people in the same Territory! and they're also very cool. They sent the US a cow as a condolence gift after 9/11. Cows are a huge deal for them so we should really be honored and grateful for such a gesture. They're artistic vision has been appropriated heavily by the fashion industry, and they've been taking action about it (Something I quite admire as an indigenous person). I should also mention they're known for many things not the least of which is being absolutely fearless. This makes sense seeing as they have a long history of hunting lions to prove themselves to their community.

Their community has been under attack since colonization, seeing as they are nomadic and their territory is caught in the middle of multiple "territories" established after heavy colonization (much like my people the Raizal).

Anyway, yall should learn more for yourselves and speak out about them where you can. Indigenous people are taken advantage of and abused because larger political powers keep us invisible and misunderstood. They control the narrative because so few ever hear our side of it.

We read Chinese Cinderella at school. I know it’s not Indian but it’s still another culture

Actually, the Cinderella story is very old and has hundreds, even thousands of variations across various cultures and time periods.

The story of Rhodopis is considered to be one of the earliest variants of Cinderella and comes from Ancient Greece. The tale of Ye Xian, aka the Chinese Cinderella, dates from around 860 AD.

There is a Japanese Cinderella story that dates from the 13th century. There’s a Vietnamese variant, an Iranian variant, and a whole bunch that pop up in One Thousand and One Nights. Like seriously, it’s all over the place. I wouldn’t be surprised if there actually was an Indian variant of Cinderella but I just haven’t heard of it.

I love how the tweet was like what you want more?? And we all went bitch yes

bring back the habits that made you happy as a child. there’s no reason you should ever have to give up harmless things that bring you joy. you don’t have to age out of having fun. finger paint. write mediocre fanfiction and questionable poetry. put chocolate chips in your waffles. sing in the bath, and while working in the yard, and while washing your hands. hammer tunelessly on a piano. spin in circles until you fall down. climb a tree. just because you’re now in charge of your life doesn’t mean you’re expected to give up on the things that make life feel worth living

honestly it’s almost like our generation is set up to be lonelier & more anxious & more insane like imagine already being 20/30-something, the period of your life where you’re expected to be “at your prime”, in the middle of a climate crisis and a pandemic, under late-stage capitalism’s celebrity culture that conditions you to be as likeable & “marketable” as possible, where it seems like every lived experience should be watchable/profitable. & you look at the future you’re supposed to be working hard for & all you see is climate catastrophe meanwhile you scroll down a little & see a skin care ad that’s like “fight aging”. i haven’t said anything here that hasn’t already been said by someone else, but imagine being 20/30-something & normal

*GASPS* Are you goddamn kidding me??? I fucking hate the lack of infrastructure in my country. God.

Dude if I could take a train 400 miles anywhere I would pay 14 dollars just for a seat, never mind all those amenities. Jeez.

Reasons I remind myself I don’t like my country number who knows what

While this is super cool in and of itself, I’d also like to remind people that modern high speed rail (most of which is in China these days) operates at around 200 miles/hour (China’s fastest train actually operates at 370+ mph but that’s an absolute state of the art maglev, the 200 mph number is average rail speed). If we actually invested in these train systems, you wouldn’t even need an overnight ticket to make a 400 mile trip. To put that in an American context, it would allow you to get from New York to Los Angeles (the famous Cannonball Run taken by car enthusiasts for decades) in about 15 hours, which is 10 hours better than the current Cannonball Run record. With that kind of speed, you could take an evening train halfway across the country (Boston to Chicago would be ~5 hours) for a weekend trip.

Trains are not just more convenient (no driving!), but technologically superior to cars.

Listen maybe if the designers actually had a voice in met gala coverage (maybe they do and I just don’t see it here on tumblr) but then more outfits might fit the theme. Like where are the designers little statements like yes i chose this style because of blah blah blah American fashion blah blah Hollywood style blah blah blah 1900s blah blah LIKE COME DEFEND YOUR WORK PLEASE
