Hey. Why isn’t the moon landing a national holiday in the US. Isn’t that fucked up? Does anyone else think that’s absurd?
It was a huge milestone of scientific and technological advancement. (Plus, at the time, politically significant). Humanity went to space! We set foot on a celestial body that was not earth for the first time in human history! That’s a big deal! I’ve never thought about it before but now that I have, it’s ridiculous to me that that’s not part of our everyday lives and the public consciousness anymore. Why don’t we have a public holiday and a family barbecue about it. Why have I never seen the original broadcast of the moon landing? It should be all over the news every year!
It’s July 20th. That’s the day of the moon landing. Next year is going to be the 54th anniversary. I’m ordering astronaut shaped cookie cutters on Etsy and I’m going to have a goddamn potluck. You’re all invited.

Not seeing the issue here. This is the epitome of art
adventure time lore is insane. it starts off just being a goofy kids show that has magic for no reason, but then you learn that all magic users are manic and/or depressed (what betty calls sadness and madness). because it turns out magic is actually a cosmic force beyond mortal comprehension, that itself was learned from cosmic entities that predated the existence of time itself inside a sea of monsters. and "magic" really is just understanding more about the nature of the universe than most people. that, in a way, reality isnt "real" and understanding that allows you to mold it. and thats magic. but that drives you to insanity and/or apathy. and there are beings who hold significant cosmic importance who are more prone to magic. and the reason magic became prevalent on earth is because of a nuclear war a thousand years ago, which released the entity that represents the destruction of all life onto the world. and after a nuclear apocalypse this gave way to a new earth, where magic could thrive. but a lot of the beings we see arent even magical, theyre just mutants from what happened 1000 years ago. and humanity as we know it has been all but wiped out. but everything stays the same because cycles of war and violence continue. and it doesnt matter if its nukes or magic. everything stays the same, but still changes.

On this day, 19 July 1883, thousands of telegraphers working for Western Union across the United States walked out on strike demanding equal pay for equal work for men and women, along with other demands, like a pay increase and an eight-hour day. The bosses had threatened the previous day that if equal pay were implemented, it would mean that they would prefer to just use men, who they alleged “can be availed of for a greater variety of service than women”. The workers, organised in the Brotherhood of Telegraphers, ignored the threats and after management failed to respond to them, walked out. The strike began when Frank R. Phillips stood on a table in the New York office and blew a whistle. Beginning in major cities, the strike spread to rural areas. In Concord, North Carolina, the lone operator Mary Ormand walked out, and the Home and Democrat newspaper reported her office was shut and wires cut by Western Union as they “could not persuade the brave Miss Ormand to be false to her womanhood.” In total around 8,000 workers across the country participated in the strike, including between 300 and 1,000 women. Western Union was determined to break the workers, and decided to try to starve them back to work. The strikers had hoped to received support from the Knights of Labor union, but when this did not occur, the strikers were eventually forced to return to work defeated after their funds ran out. Some managers decided not to rehire strike activists, although some strikers refused to return on principle. new thing i learned just now: in like 400 AD there was a monk named simeon stylites who used to live in a one room cell with a window but too many people kept bugging him for religious advice, so he climbed to the top of a pillar and shackled himself to it until he died 37 years later.
this became a cool new trend to the point where there were enough pillar monks of varying viewpoints that they would scream at each other all day
