I absolutely hate the bs excuse for remaking old movies and replacing the white characters with POC that’s like, “But look at this picture of how excited this non-white little girl is to see a princess who looks like her!!! We have to do this because representation matters!!! ”. It’s like, the problem isn’t that the character isn’t white, it’s that you are replacing a character that already existed in yet another useless and unnecessary remake for nothing but the sake of “diversity”. JUST MAKE UP NEW CHARACTERS AND IT WOULDN’T BE AN ISSUE. No one had an issue with Disney inventing the new character of Tiana in Princess and the Frog because she was an original character. Disney had never made a version of Princess and the Frog before. Same thing with Moana or Mulan. That is not the same as, for example, taking the character of Ariel and making her black in the live action remake, because Disney had already made that movie and established that character as white. They could have simply made a different movie about an original black mermaid character and it would have been fine, but no, they have to lazily remake the same story and replace Ariel. It is so annoying and I refuse to watch any of these wokeified remakes on principle.

Having a black Ariel is barely representation, because now when someone says Princess Ariel people have to specify the black one or the white one. Black girls need a character that is entirely theirs, not a black version of a white princess.

Making white characters poc is even worse.

It means they can't even be bothered to care about any poc issues.

You can't just slap a coat of pigment on a character and say "Well they're black now." when their *entire fucking backstory* is still utterly and completely White.

It's why Miles works, but just making Peter black wouldn't.

Clark Kent growing up as an adopted white kid to white parents in po' dunk Kansas is going to have a different experience growing up then a Black Clark growing up with white step parents in po' dunk fucking Kansas.

And if we're not going to tackle those differences, there's no fucking point to swapping their race in the first place outside of "Look at the jangling keys, see how shiny they are? Look over here" baby pandering bullshit.

It's one of those interestingly fucky things where large urban centers are, in fact, the place where a majority of gun violence and bad policing happens. One could very easily argue that it's a factor of population density and that can be a factor, but it doesn't erase that fact.

The next interesting point is that almost all large urban centers favor democrats, and have had a majority of democrats winning both local and federal positions.

This leads to the very interesting correlary that the places with the most attention to major crimes and police misconduct (as well as those places with the largest amount of violent street crime) always have democrat run leadership.

This isn't even some kind of strange kind of bullshit, this is actively true and actually real.

And when anyone brings it up, the immediate response is, well...
