why should I support the skeleton war?

Wouldn’t you rather see tumblr community nonsense instead of corporate brand pandering? Tumblr is one of the last true remnants of the old internet before everything became soulless algorithmic husks. Yeah its cringe sometimes, but its our cringe.

Hosting a social media website is not profitable, so thats why dev teams turn to advertisers, because our information and attention becomes their only product they can sell. If the community can invest in tumblr through blazed posts then we can get more frog elections and crabs and less fake friendly corporate bs.

I know like everyone is taking about the casting of Annabeth as black, which I'm more than ok with. but ever since she was cast, I know we've all seen the blatant racism, but I've also noticed art of white Annabeth (still a valid interpretation) or white cosplayers are getting flooded with comments along the lines of

"this is EXACTLY how I pictured Annabeth"

"this is MY Annabeth"

"the true Annabeth"

we all know what you are trying to communicate even if you aren't saying it diesctly. stop it.

and for everyone who is saying "I'd be just as upset is they casted a POC character as white!" I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and say you would.

but those characters race is important.

it's important that Leo is Mexican because his grandfather went to a school for colored children, where he met Hazel.

it's important that Hazel is black because of the culture shock she gets when she comes to the 2000s in terms of racism.

it's important that Frank is Chinese because it is how he is decended from Neptune.

it's important that Piper is Cherokee because she carries all the lessons and parables she got from her uncle with her throughout her story.

it's not important that Annabeth is white because the only thing important about her appearance is that people underestimate her because of it. you know a demographic that is often disrespected and underestimated for their appearance? black people, especially black women.

Leah Jeffries is not a "diversity hire" and it absolutely disgusting behavior to say she is. she is a twelve year old girl who already has an acting career and worked hard to get where she is.

In one of the Death Note live action movies (I think it was Light Up the New World), a man changes his name after harboring guilt about past crimes and trying to atone (not even answering to that name). He's only killed after his new name gets put in the book, since he shed his old name.

Man wasn't trans, but if the logic applied to him, logic should apply to trans people too!

This rule implies that birth names are not necessarily the names given to you at birth.

That means you can change your name or consider yourself to have a new name and the death note recognizes it.

Death Note is an ally.

i think every religious holiday should also be an official national holiday where you don’t have to work or go to school or anything and i also think in order to be respectful and inclusive we count the holidays of any religious group that has over like ten people. with the power of friendship and a shared google docs spreadsheet we could make sure no one goes to work ever again

very gently: yes. some humans have been doing destruction recently. yes, some humans are living in unsustainable ways. yes, the world is suffering for the actions of the humans who exploit the natural world.

however.

this has not been the case for the vast majority of time. this is not currently the case for many people on the earth right now. we evolved alongside earth’s ecosystems, as they evolved alongside us. we are part of it. we are embedded in the world. we have never been seperate from it, and the idea that we are – that our actions somehow could have no consequences for the world at large – is the mindset that allowed the current crisis to reach where it is.

it’s. hard to truly get a sense of the scale of humans’ existence on the planet– under the readmore i’ve drawn out a rough timeline for you. it is very long, so i’ll put it under the cut.

suffice it to say: humans, homo sapiens, have existed on the earth for 315,000 years. we did not invent agriculture until 11,500 years ago. the industrial revolution, the drilling for oil and dumping plastic? that has happened only in the last 250 years. 

we are part of the world. we are in the world. some of us have very, very recently forgotten this fact. but we are remembering, and remembering quickly.

the earth needs us. it needs us to fix the things we’ve gotten wrong, yes. but it also needs us to be humans. to hunt, to burn, to care for the forests and the fields and the grasslands. it has always needed us. we are not interlopers here. we belong. we have simply forgotten our manners.
