Hallo allerseits!
This is just an attempt at poking a bit of fun at ourselves. Just some typical problems and annoyances you encounter being German or living in Germany! :)
Feel free to submit (as a photo post please!) via the submit feature (template here! Or alternatively you might be interested in some Austrian or Swiss problems. ;) (... which had their templates deleted but you can send me ideas as text !)) or putting it in the ask. Languages are English and/or German.

are you as tired of all of the "german is an angry language" comments/jokes as i am? bc i'm tired of it

dude, my friend, my pal, i am SO fucking tired of it.

other things that i wish would just die out:

  • giving villains in movies, comics, ect german names to express that they are evil
  • portraying every german in media as either a stoic business person, a bavarian in lederhosn or a nazi.
  • american media just making up german words and pretending it is standard vocabulary for us. one of the worst offences: “Lebenslangerschicksalsschatz”
  • american media hiring people who don’t actually speak any german to play germans and then have them speak horrible german (also see above video)
  • americans producing media which misinterprets literally every country that isn’t their own, overgeneralizing and stereotyping cultures and then exporting that media into said countries.

Ahhhhhh da motiviert sich noch jemand mit Rolf Zuckowski. Ich bin nicht mehr alleine! Partyhüte für alle!

It’s been so long I don’t even notice I do it but when life gets tough, a little voice in me starts singing ‘.....iiiich schaff das schon’

(there’s also so many other great songs! look rolf zuckowskis music is a gift ok)

This guy had the best costume.

On his Shirt: This costume is not available in your country.                      We are sorry.

On his sign: This sign is not available in your country, too.                     We are also sorry.

Everyone knows that, thanks Youtube and we Geramns suffer the most under this. Half of the viedeos are not available.

German Memes Gothic

There is a new Till Schweiger movie. You do not want to see it, but you know what it is about. You always know.

Heidi Klum is on the television. Heidi Klum is in your city. Heidi Klum is in your house. Soon there won’t be any girls left to sacrifice to her.

Why is there thatch lying around? Why are you wearing a mask? You wonder.

Your family bonds have dissolved in discussions over the correct article for nutella. At dawn, you lay in a corner of your room whispering “Der… die… das…” to yourself. There is no answer.

A friend messages you. Joyfully, he writes “Ich trink Ouzo, was machst du so?”. You don’t know what you’re doing. You’re all alone.

There is no 20% on pet food. There never is. Has it ever been? No matter. It is not now. You will have to pay the price.

At night, you can hear your stuffed animals whisper things into your ear. “Alles bäm?”, they ask. A tear runs down your face. “Läuft”, you whisper back.

Everytime you look at your girlfriend’s face you wonder. Maybe she isn’t your girlfriend. Maybe she is Manuel Neuer. The uncertainty is slowly driving you insane. Coke Zero doesn’t taste like Coca Cola at all.

You wake up and look around you. There is cereal everywhere. But not any cereal. It’s Seitenbacher. Seitenbacher. Seitenbacher. Seitenbacher. Seitenbacher.

:/ It’s mocking you. You’re not going to watch this video.

You didn’t say “Schulz”. Everyone is looking at you. They are standing up now. You are as good as dead.

I'm very interested in traveling to Germany, but I have no idea where I should go! What are the prettiest/most culturally significant cities in your opinion? What should I definitely see or do? Thanks so much 😊

honestly, you’re always going to get a different answer to this, depending on where the German you’re asking is from. I’d say go to Hamburg, Berlin and then explore the rhine region southward starting in either Cologne (if you want to see the cathedral which is really really impressive) or Bonn (if you just want pretty landscape and the castles). That way you get cities, and have probably the most historically siginificant one with Berlin, and landscape along the Rhine which in that area  is one of the most beautiful parts of Germany.

Most people would probably add Munich/Neuschwanstein/Bavaria here, but like I said, it varies depending on where the person you’re asking is from and I’d choose Hamburg over Munich because to me the city is by far more interesting, because of its relative closeness to the sea and the maritime atmosphere you get because of that. It’s a very old trade city, a very rich city, but at the same time, it has the red light district and a lot of more alternative parts of the city and I love the contradiction inherent in that.

Berlin you could spend ages in because you cannot round a corner without stumbling over something steeped in history or a museum or something similar. I’ve never had time to be a full-on tourist for a few days when in Berlin but I definitely want to one day because there is just SO MUCH TO SEE.

Basically, I’d say definitely 100% go to Berlin and then choose at least one more city based on your personal preferences (mine would always lead me to Hamburg, but Germany has so many great cities! I’ve never been there but I’ve heard Dresden is very pretty too, Munich is often mentioned, even though it is not my cup of tea, Cologne in and of itself is also worth a journey etcetc). I’d definitely recommend the Middle Rhine region to travel through, because of the castles and the landscape. It’s just very pretty.

Like I said though, this is all subjective. Ask enough people and they’ll recommend you the whole country.
