I'm so so sick of open world games

Every time a series makes the switch to being open world it's like. Okay that's just what you're gonna have to be from now on huh. Like the Open World is held on such a high pedestal that once you've made the switch you're never going to be allowed to make anything else. Everything just has to homogenize into this one specific gameplay loop of walking the fuck around an open space.

Evil version of myself with bad taste playing an older game with a smaller but more detailed and refined map that acts as its own elaborate puzzle and story telling device and is satisfying to progress through: "I sure do wish I had the player freedom to walk through a field aimlessly so I could find one of six types of collectibles right about now"

every so often I remember that whales molt

I’m not sure why I feel this way, but imo this is the most cursed marine mammal fact I have ever heard

THAT’S RIGHT AND THANK YOU FOR REMINDING ME SO I CAN INFLICT THIS ON EVERYONE AT 1AM!

Mammals normally shed their skin in small flakes all the time when their skin cells die off, but because whales are living in the ocean -AKA, Bacteria Stew- flaking off like that would cause microabrasions (really tiny cuts) that would mean the whale is continually fighting off infections.  So, when a whale needs to replace it’s dead skin cells, it preps it’s new skin underneath, then sheds all it’s dead skin cells at once, like a lizard:

but not having hands makes it hard to remove this gross film, so molting brings many whales clsoe to shore where they can roll around on rocky/sandy coastal seabeds to scratch it off.  Here’s a bunch of Beluga coming in for a mass scratch:

And THIS is what a chunk of Sperm Whale Molt looks like, floating in the water before it’s devoured by pelagic microfauna, because you take what calories you can get in the open ocean:

wish it still held in one big piece like a snake though. Wish you could be swimming in the ocean and you see a huge empty whale billowing like a balloon. like a latex glove a hundred feet long. imagine getting tangled in that. what if you died cause you got caught in an empty whale like it’s a big blanket

Supreme Court just said businesses can refuse service to gay people and struck down student loan forgiveness we have got to start carbombing

this honestly just came out of left fucking field i would have never expected to hear anything like this in this show. consider me Pleasantly Surprised tbh

This was the autism episode

people seem to forget that house was a multiply disabled man, so it should be a given that he’d be against eugenics and eugenicist doctors

The really hilariously ill-conceived part of the Twitter rate limiting thing is that comments and retweets are the same kind of entity as tweets in the back-end database, they're just "parented" to whatever tweet they're commenting on or retweeting, and the rate limit they've placed on the API simply counts how many of those entities you've requested without checking a. whether they're the children of another entity or not, nor b. whether you've already seen that particular entity today.

Thus, the limit isn't really "600 tweets". A tweet, each comment on that tweet, and each retweet of that tweet all count against the limit as you view them. For example, if a quote-retweet crosses your dashboard, the quote-retweet itself and the little preview of what it's responding to that appears above it each count separately against the limit. Click into that quote-retweet to read the comments? They both get counted against your limit a second time, as does each individual comment you read – and heaven help you if any of those comments were themselves commented upon!

The upshot is that if your account isn't verified, using Twitter in the manner that its own monetisation model assumes – and, indeed demands – it will be used can easily exhaust your entire daily allocation of tweet views in as little as a couple dozen engagements.

It's time we decolonize the Cascadian volcanoes

If we can say Denali instead of Mt. McKinley then we can say Lawetlat'la instead of Mt. St Helens. The mountain is named Tahoma, not Rainier. Naming a mountain after Jefferson doesn't erase its true name of Seekseekqua.

One name tells of the thousand years indigenous history and culture of the tribes who live there. The other name tells me nothing but colonialism.

I think it would've been funny if there was exactly one (1) Guardian still active in TotK somewhere. Just to jumpscare people who thought for sure there's no Guardians in the game.

Distant Star, 1980. A project to create a 2-seat luxury car with a 4-barrel 350ci V8 and automatic transmission, front and rear independent suspension and a reinforced fibreglass body. It may have been based on a C3 Corvette platform. The brochure actually claimed the car was in production though it appears never to have left the drawing board

other people have said this but elon musk might actually be the dumbest person alive for thinking it’s a good idea to limit views on a website that makes money through advertising

a bunch of ppl who run websites have pointed out that the first thing that platforms/hosts will do if u don't pay your bills is to rate limit you, the limiting views thing is just elon's PR copefest in my opinion
