I was wondering if the word lucid and the name Lucifer share the same roots etymologically and so I googled it. They do!

Both derive from the latin word “lux,” which means “light.”

Lucid is the term that means consciously awakened. When you are lucid in a dream, you have regained your ordinary waking level of consciousness in the dream stare. There is clarity and sanity.

Lucifer was known as the Lightbringer, which is interesting. He was also the one responsible for the apple in the garden of Eden being eaten, which gave humanity the lucidity that animals did not have—symbolized by the humans realizing they were naked, unlike animals who are not aware of nakedness.

I’ve been watching the new Sabrina show on Netflix and thinking about my past experiences with Satanism when I was more involved in occult studies. The way that modern Satanism venerates Lucifer is as the example and bringer of Lucidity.

Being unbound by the judeochristian worldview, I am not creeped out or bothered by the idea of Lucifer. I am finding it a rather interesting line of inquiry.

In some ways, being Conscious in this samsaric play of the world is a sin. Power structures want us to be semi-conscious: productive but not disruptive. Consciousness, to the ego, is also offensive and sinful. The ego wants to be in control and can’t be if you are Conscious.
