spider-man : across the spider-verse is the most visually stunning thing i have ever seen in my life. genuinely like, the best looking film i’ve ever seen. aside from the plot and the characters (all of which were great, solid buildup for a banger conclusion) seeing all that artistic talent on screen was fucking insane. my mind was exploding every three minutes. that art book is going to go HARRDDD.
hey netizens! i'm not sure how many people are aware, but youtube's been slowly rolling out a new anti-adblock policy that can't be bypassed with the usual software like uBlock Origin and Pi-Hole out of the gate
BUT, if you're a uBlock Origin user (or use an adblocker with a similar cosmetics modifier), you can add these commands in the uBlock dashboard to get rid of it!
youtube.com##+js(set, yt.config_.openPopupConfig.supportedPopups.adBlockMessageViewModel, false) youtube.com##+js(set, Object.prototype.adBlocksFound, 0) youtube.com##+js(set, ytplayer.config.args.raw_player_response.adPlacements, []) youtube.com##+js(set, Object.prototype.hasAllowedInstreamAd, true)

Taking Back The Power of Communities With Swapping/Exchanging
Swap If you swap something with someone, you give it to them and receive a different thing in exchange. Collins
Many people today are focused on being hyper-independent; this, however, is not how life has always been for everyone.
Have you ever heard of the term "barn raising?" Barn raisings (aka a raising bee) was when a whole community — especially in 18th-19th century North America — would get together to build a barn or other structure. With so many hands at the ready, they could build an entire barn in a day.
No one would be paid for their work, and the whole community was expected to help. Often, finishing would be celebrated with a feast and dance.
The idea of this is that you help your neighbor with the knowledge that you may need that help in the future.
In a world where people work more hours and have less time off than a medieval peasant did, we need community more than ever. Instead of taking on every task yourself, you lean on a community to take on some of the load. Here are some examples of how some people are working on this:
🌱 Seeds and Seedling Swaps 🌱
Some communities organize seed swaps, where you have a gathering for people to exchange seeds. This is a great way to swap something you have a lot of for something you have never tried before.
This system is particularly helpful for people who seed save from the previous harvest.
Can't go with the community option? There are online seed exchanges as well.
Note: in some places, this is illegal. For example, in some of the USA states, patents are held on the seeds themselves. As well as that, there are also laws "intended to protect farmers" from weeds. Some people host these events anyways, while lobbying their local governments to make changes.
🍅 Harvest Exchanges / Crop Swaps / Food Swaps 🍅
While seed swaps tend to happen before the growing season, harvest exchanges happen during harvest times. By then, you will hopefully have produce of some kind from your garden, and if you have extra, you can exchange it with the produce of someone else. For example, if you grow tomatoes, you could leave with some carrots and apples.
This does not have to be on a large scale, either. You could set up a plan with friends where you each grow something different, then plan to swap at the end of the season.
There are also online options for this as well.
Some of these also expand into finished goods; such as baked food, canned foods, and so on. These are called "Community Food Swaps." There is are online directories for these.
👚Clothing Swaps 👚
I hope you are getting the idea by now, but just in case, people gather, and exchange clothes that no longer fit or no longer match their style, for clothes they do need.
Putting it simply, the events have tables (organized by clothing type and size) for you to put your clothing onto. You can go to any table, and grab the clothes you need.
If there are any clothes not claimed by the end of the event, they can be donated.
🧠 Knowledge Swaps 🧠
If you have a skill of some kind, you may be able to swap it for the knowledge someone has on a different subject. For example, if you know how to fix jewelry, that might be worth trading for someone who knows how to mend clothing.
For these, you literally exchange the skills by teaching the other person. Any skill you have, even holding chopsticks properly, could very well be a skill someone wants to learn, so do not doubt yourself.
There are online versions of this as well.
🛠 Work Swaps 🛠
Just as it sounds: you exchange a job for a job. For example, let's say you are good at graphics design but need a sink fixed; you could give a plumber the logo they need for marketing, while they repair your sink.
Transcript: "This might sound like a hot take, but I feel like the Internet's obsession with uniqueness is causing legitimate brain rot in some people.
There's no reason why something like mental illness, for example, should be turned into this commodity where you like, get internet points or social currency by being different.
It's like, by trying to break the stigma, we've just come full circle, where now nobody knows what the hell any of these words actually mean.
So when you explain what a panic attack is, people are like "Oh, like that's like actually really scary." & "Not something I just experienced when I couldn't get Taylor Swift tickets".
And I know this is going to piss some people off so just brace yourself, but I see it the most in fellow white people - Especially people that are like upper-middle-class.
Look, I'm just gonna say it: whiteness gives us access to everything but oppression. That's the one thing we can't colonize. So what do we do? We turn oppression into social currency - Because we know if there's one thing we can do, it's make money off of something that doesn't belong to us.
And before the people that grew up on a cul-de-sac start to get offended in my comments, actually listen to what I'm saying: Don't intentionally misconstrue it because you want to be oppressed. Just be happy and lucky you aren't."

I think arts funding should be infinite and easily available to everyone. I think 13 year olds who only draw anime should receive funding to buy giant sets of copic markers and shitty local punk bands should receive funding for instruments and practice spaces and performance artists should receive funding for their weird and nonsensical projects
What to do if you suddenly find yourself homeless
FOOD
- Find your nearest food bank or mission, for food
- grocery stores with free samples, bakeries + stores with day-old bread
- different fast food outlets have cheaper food and will generally let you hang out for a while.
- some dollar stores carry food like cans of beans or fruit
SHELTER
- Sleeping at beaches during the day is a good way to avoid suspicion and harassment
- sleep with your bag strapped to you, so someone can’t steal it
- Some churches offer short term residence
- Find your nearest homeless shelter
- Look for places that are open to the public
- A large dumpster near a wall can often be moved so that flipping up the lids creates an angled shelter to stay dry
HYGIENE
- A membership to the YMCA is usually only 10$, which has a shower, and sometimes laundry machines and lockers.
- Public libraries have bathrooms you can use
- Dollar stores carry low-end soaps and deodorant etc.
- Wet wipes are all purpose and a life saver
- Local beaches, go for a quick swim
- Some truck stops have showers you can pay for
- Staying clean is the best way to prevent disease, and potentially get a job to get back on your feet
- Pack 7 pairs of socks/undies, 2 outfits, and one hooded rain jacket
OTHER
- first aid kit
- sunscreen
- a travel alarm clock or watch
- mylar emergency blanket
- a backpack is a must
- downgrade your cellphone to a pay as you go with top-up cards
- sleeping bag
- travel kit of toothbrush, hair brush/comb, mirror

Psychology textbook diagrams never cease to amaze me
ok y'all this isn’t a psych textbook gaslighting you into thinking it’s normal and ok for your boss to yell at you, it’s specifically about understanding that other people’s treatment of you is usually more about them than you. If your boss is pissy with you, it’s absolutely more healthy to understand that behavior as a reflection of his mental state rather than of your worth as an employee. It’s not a psych textbook’s job to advise you how to improve your workplace or say what is/isn’t acceptable treatment by a boss. It’s an example of detaching your own self-worth from how other people treat you.
^^THIS!
In fact, if you let yourself think of other people’s treatment as a reflection on YOU more than it is on THEM, it can prevent you from getting things done.
Or, in other words,
ok, im rb'ing this again because this actually helped me finally be able to take advantage of cognitive restructuring in a way i’ve struggled to do for a long time. Ive been able to get to the my boss was having a bad day part, but i’ve always struggled to use that mental change to do something that would improve the situation. but because of this diagram, i THINK ive got it figured out. Here’s a rough explanation of how I interperet this.
Real life example:
Boss yelling: My mom is snapping at me, calling me “disrespectful” no matter how I speak to her, and getting mad at me for having missing assignments He was having a bad day: She’s stressed due to my grandma being in the hospital He shouldn’t take it out on me: just because she’s stressed doesn’t mean she gets to be mean to me. Unionize: I advocate for myself, saying that I’m not being disrespectful and that it’s okay to have missing assignments because I’m doing my best Fuck his wife: I am unapologetically proud of myself for what i manage to do in a day, especially if my mom disapproves of it or doesn’t view it as productive, as my own little “fuck you” to her.
End result: no depression.
This actually works and its amazing. Thanks to the meme side of tumblr for accidentally developing a highly effective method for coping with people who treat you like shit
[Image description: image 1: a photo of two short flowcharts. The first one is labeled “Maladaptive pattern” and goes “My boss yelled at me” —> “I’m worthless.” —> Depression. The second one is labeled “After cognitive restructuring” and goes “My boss yelled at me” —> “my boss was having a bad day.” —> no depression.
Image 2: the same charts as image 1, except “my boss is having a bad day” has been edited to read “i fuck his wife”
Image 3: the same charts as image 1, except “my boss is having a bad day” has been edited to read “unionize” in all caps.
Image 4: the same charts as image 1, except “my boss is having a bad day” has been edited to read “unionize and fuck his wife!!”
Image 5: the same charts as image 1, excepted second chart has been edited so that it goes “My boss yelled at me”—> “My boss was having a bad day.” —> “While this is not a reflection of my worth, my boss should not take his bad day out on me” —> “unionize” in all caps —> “fuck his wife” in all caps —>”no depression”.
A chart with three columns, labeled “diagram”, “step name”, and “explanation”. For the purposes of this image description, the rows of the chart will be transcribed as diagram-step name-explanation.
“My boss yelled at me”-inciting incident-event that triggers psychological/emotional response. / “my boss was having a bad day”-cognitive restructuring-reframing the event as something that is not a reflection of your worth as a person. Often done by recognizing and changing cognitive distortions in your original reaction. / “while this is not a reflection of my worth, my boss should not take his bad day out on me.“ – Recognize your rights - above, plus recognition of the fact that you have the right to be treated well by those around you. / Unionize in all caps– recognize your inherent ability to advocate for yourself – recognize that you have the skills and ability to make things better for yourself, and take action to do so. Advocate for your right to be treated well, just like a union would advocate for your rights as a worker / “fuck his wife”in all caps - reap the rewards – the “step 5: profit“ of this saga. Go live your best life. Succeed and excel as a “fuck you“ to the people who drag you down. A very motivated - by -spite type of thing. / No depression – no depression – what it says on the tin. /End description] @a-captions-blog @can-i-make-image-descriptions
Short-staffing has become a major problem in all sectors. Retail, food service, health care, education, factory production lines, call centers, child care, IT, office support staff, etc. Every corner of our society and economy.
Now we know that even in creative spaces employers are not willing to hire sufficient staff to accomplish necessary tasks, demand workers do more than their fair share of work, for longer hours, without fair compensation or reasonable breaks/time off.
This needs to stop.
Management types like to call it "lean staffing", implying they have cut away the fat. I call it "taut staffing", since you have made sure everyone is under constant strain.
Ann has a flat? Increase the strain. Brian is sick? Give the wheel another turn. Even if you have a "good" day and are "fully-staffed" (according to who they are willing to hire), the damage from those days of increased strain persists, especially as you're probably also dealing with strain caused by low pay, high rent, and inadequate healthcare.
If you put something under strain for too long, it snaps.
