@generouspeachheart

a dark academia girlie but like in a Richard Papen kind of way

I cannot stress enough how much Laszlo and Nandor's dynamic is "my beloved wife's insufferable older brother" vs "my annoying little sister's good-for-nothing husband" and yes, up to and including the fact that they've canonically fucked more than once

It’s important to recognise that Barbie (2023) criticises both the patriarchy AND the matriarchy. Yes, the Ken’s are just accessories to the Barbies. Yes, they don’t have any say in the government they live under. That’s the point, you’re supposed to feel awful, you’re supposed to want the Kens to have their own agency, you’re supposed to want equality. The Barbie movie explicitly states that the way Barbie treats Ken is wrong, so much so that once he finds a safe space for his masculinity and individual identity he’s so excited to share it with the other Kens.

But they go overboard and replace a matriarchy with a patriarchy and now the same issue exists but in reverse. That’s the POINT!! THATS THE POINT!!! Barbie is not anti-men it’s pro equality PLEASE understand this

“Why does that obstinate little voice in our heads torment us so?” he said, looking round the table. “Could it be because it reminds us that we are alive, of our mortality, of our individual souls—which, after all, we are too afraid to surrender but yet make feel more miserable than any other thing?

I also sobbed when I saw barbie appreciating an old woman, sitting beside her on the bench, because that's what a woman is and that's what being human is, and that's what life is and she saw imperfection and age and realized it was beautiful.

She was so scared of being imperfect and having cellulite and aging and dying, and then she saw how beautiful all of those things could be, and she cried, and I cried.

And I understood. And I felt understood.

Also, props to Allan???

He's a doll most people have never heard of. He got discontinued forever ago cause he was perceived as gay by consumers and they didn't like that.

But I love that he had an actual role in Barbie. He was very queer coded, yeah, but he didn't like when all the Kens turned to Patriarchy. He was so uncomfortable that he wanted to abandon Barbieland all together. He knew it was wrong.

And then he helped the Barbies get themselves back. He had a pink jumpsuit and sunglasses and went out all stealthy to get the Barbies in the van. He even voted at the end to keep the constitution the way it was.

Big Allan fan over here.

For me, the saddest thing about the ending of tsh is not the fact that two people literally died, but the fact that after all the effort Richard put into being accepted into a friendgroup he was still all alone in the end.

that bitter feeling of loneliness utterly crushed me.

when i was post op after top surgery i had a good friend there with me to help recover. but the nurse didnt get the memo and when i woke up she was like “ok i’m gonna go get your girlfriend and bring her in to see you!” and i remember being so zonked on anesthesia and so disoriented i just laid there thinking wow…… all that an they’re bringing me a girlfriend too this place is amazing

I took Latin many, many years ago, and I don’t recall most of the grammar (only the vocabulary) but I have a distinct memory of my teacher having a boy translate Catullus 5. When he got to the line “da mi basia mille,” the kid said, “Give me a mile of kisses.” My teacher got unexpectedly annoyed and said, “Your options were ‘a thousand kisses’ or ‘a mile of kisses’ and you went with MILE?!?!” To this day it makes me laugh.

Now I’m just imagining this same situation happening with Henry and Bunny, with Henry having the same reaction. And I’m in hysterics.
