hello! just a lil smth, please don’t scroll!

tw // anti-asian violence

there’s been a fuck ton of aapi hate since the beginning of the pandemic and especially lately, with the georgia shootings today, and even the grammys last sunday

all this said i just wanted to share a few resources (none mine!):

- anti-asian violence resources (this resource is also linked in my pinned, it contains information, petitions, places to donate and a lot more)

- stop asian hate (contains petitions, places to donate, ways to spread the word and more)

- sites to donate to and share (if you have a twitter please consider retweeting)

- a cumulative twitter thread with a little bit of everything and more than i explained

if you have any resources you wanna share reply and/or reblog and i’ll add it, and with that please share this with the same tags <3 sending love to my fellow aapi, please stay safe all of you and don’t be fucking racist :]

AAAAA the guy that flipped this house fucked up the plumbing under the kitchen sink with unlicensed repairs!!!!

thankfully the problem was a simple blockage but w how that sink was installed by the flipper... this probably isn't the last time, the blockage was caused by too much plumbers putty on the pipe that accumulated over time. to fix it it cost me $179 that i really don't have rn.

😬😬😬

the blockage is gone but still don't have my stimulus, still don't have my severance, and my new job doesn't start until later this week, not to mention i still haven't paid my roomate back the $400 i owe them from the last plumbing disaster!

if someone could throw me some money/reblog this i'd be grateful. tbfh if i get that stimulus check soon i'll delete this post but i'll believe that when i see it.

If you don’t love languages, hear me out: my telugu friend had been affectionately calling me, a hindi speaker, “gundi” for 7 months. We didn’t realize until recently that the word has two completely different meanings in Telugu and Hindi, and that we both had completely different interpretations of her affection.

In Telugu, “gundi” means “smol/button/round/cute”.

In Hindi, “gundi” means “female thug”

As a Telugu and Hindi speaker, this was hilarious to read.

Why do we say that capitalism must be “dismantled”?

You’ll hear phrases like “Smash the state!” “Eat the rich!” and “Smash capitalism!”

And, yes, of course, but… :)

However relevant those sayings are, our work must be careful, highly organized and above all planned.

Because capitalism and all of its associated systems are not discrete, abstracted entities we can attack independently.

It is a structure, like a complicated machine with many thousands of working parts…

And right now it is connected to absolutely everything.

If we do this… [picks up huge hammer and smashes the machine]

Then a lot of vulnerable people will die.

The machine was built and improved and redesigned and patched over the course of generations. It is very good at its intended purpose, which is ultimately to generate profit.

Every human being alive today relies on the byproducts of the machine to survive, without exception.

The machine’s engineers want it to keep working like it does. In fact, they want to optimise it.

That will kill all remaining life on Earth.

So, we must destroy the machine, quickly and carefully

We must examine its deadly programs and mechanics and replace them with alternatives we built together.

The engineers don’t want us tampering with the machine.

However, we make it run…

So we can make it STOP. Together.

How will YOU help us to safely dismantle the machine?

p.s. My computer is on its last legs. If you would like me to draw you a little cartoon and help me get a new computer, learn more at this post.

I had a pretty bad seizure and im in the hospital pretty sure ill get put on meds .-. Wish me luck

Thank you so much for the responses

If anyone is able to send some money so i can get a good meal when i get outta here id seriously appreciate it [03/05]

With the Amazon boycott coming up to show support for unionizing I’m curious. I’ve heard that you can mess with online stores by leaving things in your cart, but not buying them. Will this help more/the same/less as avoiding Amazon all together?

I honestly have no idea, but I’m all about sticking it to Amazon leadership without hurting its workers. Anybody have insight into this?

Also, here’s our position on unions (spoiler alert: we’re for ‘em!):

Avatar

I dont believe the union in progress has called for a boycott- and it is my understanding that harming buisness would at this would not do much to help their progress. Although anyone who has the patience can try to find and buy directly from the smaller buisnesses by directing to the sellers own store pages and supporting stores outside of amazon fees

yknow it would be really nice if everyone into like cryptic culture and ~cottagecore~ and all that actually like....gave a shit abt appalachia

like i people don't INTEND to commodify or sensationalize us, but every time i see people hyping up cryptids i always get the unpleasant reminder that people only care abt my state for ~mothman~ or to conveniently stereotype in debates abt gun control. please please if you have spent any time learning abt cryptids, also learn abt wv coal miners, who work a dying industry because it's the only job a cycle of Incredible poverty makes accessible to them, have had absolutely no protections against COVID enforced, despite not only working in incredibly cramped, dangerous positions, but Already being at high risk for respiratory diseases like black lung. learn abt the governor who was reelected in the midst of all the other major politics last year, the only millionaire in west virginia, who at one point owed 7 billion dollars in fines for mine safety violations that he still hasn't paid and whose family STILL owns most mines in the state.

that's just two things! in one state!!! the opioid epidemic and the steady defending of education and the absolutely abysmal conditions that people live in across appalachia are staggering in their weight. if you love cryptid culture i am begging you, please please love and care for and talk abt the people who created it and keep it going.

if you have ever bought merchandise abt how much u love the flatwoods monster or w/ever, please please also consider supporting one of these organizations (these are mostly wv-centered because it's where i live, i encourage ppl from other states to add links if they have them!):

  • Holler Health Justice, a queer BIPOC-led nonprofit that provides access to abortion, free EC, and other mutual aid across Appalachia
  • Appalachian Mountain Advocates, which works across Appalachia to shift towards clean energy and end fossil fuels and fracking
  • Mountain Justice, which works in West Virginia to fight environmental damage, in particular mountain top removal
  • WV Free, a group that advocates reproductive rights in west virginia
  • Fairness WV, a group that advocates lgbt+ rights in west virginia
  • WV Can't Wait, a political group that focuses on helping & promoting candidates across west virginia who want economic change

This is literally the only time on the internet I’ve seen anyone not blame poor people in rural areas for being poor? “They work in coal mines and they’re uneducated, ew” Do you understand how poverty works?? Do you?? Anwyay @pechebeche mad props for sticking up for Appalachia. I have been yelling about it for years but nobody on ANY side of the political balance beam wants to listen.

Ooh I forgot I had resources to share looool

  • Foxfire  - in 1966, a bunch of high school kids in Southern Appalachia (Georgia) created a magazine featuring interviews from their family and community members about Appalachian culture and history. Now, not only has the magazine creation been passed down from generation to generation of high school students, but there’s an entire center and foundation for Foxfire.
  • What You Are Getting Wrong About Appalachia - don’t read Hillbilly Elegy; read this book instead. It genuinely changed my life and my understanding of this nation. This is a “why didn’t they teach us THIS in school” book filled with important knowledge, defense of minority groups in Appalachia, dispelling of myths... seriously it’s such a good book.
  • How Half of America Lost Its F***ing Mind - this article is less Appalachia-centric, but it offers a pretty balanced look at why rural counties glowed red in 2016 and 2020 (note: this article was written back in early 2016, when liberals never fully believed Trump would get any votes, but the also liberal author of the article knew more than he thought he did). Again, one of the few articles on the Internet that doesn’t use “uneducated” as an insult.
  • Gone Home: Race and Roots through Appalachia - this book was filled with interviews from black Americans who grew up in Appalachian coal mining towns. Fair warning, the editing and formatting in this book is fully atrocious, but the information is still insanely valuable!

if you’re white, i don’t want to hear a peep from you about race unless you’re reblogging posts written by poc or asking respectful questions to a poc who is willing to answer. i don’t want to hear your cold takes, i don’t want to see any ‘supportive’ posts that really contain misinformation or that actually only exist to defend white people. listen and learn. you have nothing to add here, this is not about you.

I wish my fellow white people would follow note

From,

A white person

this is like, exactly what i’m talking about. why did you feel the need to say this? i’d rather white people shut up really. i get you’re well intentioned but this screams of performative allyship. when you make a bland statement like this, just going off what i said, you get to point here and say look i’m a good ally. rather than listening and taking actual measures to counter the racism in your life.

also the whole ‘fellow white people’ part is very ‘us versus them’ othering of people of color. you could say ‘white people do better’ not ‘fellow white people’ because that phrasing immediately shuts out poc... who are the ones who should be talking about it, not you.

anyways please actually read the posts of poc and let the reading sink in because you clearly don’t understand. i said white people shut up and listen, and here you are, talking.

actually, @ any minors who are following me: if an adult tries to show you nsfw stuff (writing or art or pics or vids) for any reason, including from callout posts–block liberally. like, whether they’re sending to you because “hey look this is great” or “ew look this is gross”: it is inappropriate. it’s one thing if you need vague sex ed questions that don’t involve any personal info (and even then, better to consult copious online resources like scarleteen), but an adult should not be showing you graphic sex acts or descriptions of it, they should not be showing you triggering content “for your own good” or not, they should not involve you in discussions about sex acts and the moral validity of said sex acts. it is not appropriate nor safe. you are allowed to think and wonder about sex, but adults should not be involved in showing you graphic acts of any kind, for any reason.

can adults and minors be friends ? i believe so, yes, and i think intragenerational friendships and mentorships are important. i also believe that there are boundaries, and that adults should not be trying to shape a teen’s sexuality or view of sexuality besides helping if the kid is targeted by a predator (and no this does not mean SENDING KIDS NSFW CONTENT YOU BELIEVE IS BAD) or answering basic questions that a teen might have, without involving themselves.

Meet the gun-toting ‘Tenacious Unicorns’ in rural Colorado

How a transgender-owned alpaca ranch in Colorado foretells the future of the rural queer West.

Read this article here.

They talk at length about existing as openly queer folks in a very very rural Colorado valley and standing up against violence and threats from far-right community members. The organization has been targeted by calls about “animal abuse” this month (2/21) because their alpacas eat off the ground. You can support them through their etsy, gofundme, or through more backing on social media.

They have a pack of ten dogs, all named after characters from Star Trek. They have sniper rifles. They live in a geodesic dome. They have a thriving herd of alpacas. It’s a particular sort of utopia.

Support the Tenacious Unicorns at their etsy store here or their other media here.

With some threats from the right wing folks in the area, stalkers, and a barrage of death threats, these folks are fundraising again to get more security measures and expand their land holdings. Support the fundraiser here:

Very cool and good that we're now in that stretch of "pointless forever war" where kids are old enough to go fight in the same war their parents died in. Extremely normal.

ik other anarchists talk about it a lot but the lack of autonomy kids have is a fucking problem.

Minors are most likely to be abused by their relatives, but cant even leave on their own accord legally. Adults they trust can't even house them unless the kid(s) talk to child services, and go through the whole ordeal of reliving their abuse so adults they don't know can make a case. If the proof just isn't there, they'll have to go back home with their abusers, and most definitely recieve backlash.

If the court manages to find the relative(s) guilty, that child is either placed into a shitty system that furthers mistreatment, requiring them to uproot their whole lives for instability. Or maybe they go off on their own (some places 16 year olds can apply for emancipation), but they usually end up homeless because of age discrimination in the workplace and with rental properties, or they might get involved with people who inflict more harm to them.

All while recovering mentally and/ or physically from abuse. All while going to school, because it's illegal to drop out before a certain age.

Kids need and deserve adequate support systems and autonomy.

Im just gonna say it : The over and unnecessary usage and exploitation of AAVE  by white people (which white people LOVE to call “stan language”)  is going to result in AAVE being considered as “cringey ” in a few years by popular humor accounts all over the social media and as a result most white people will stop using it bc they only care about AAVE to look “cool” or more “trendy” and gonna discard it from their vocabulary as soon as AAVE stops serving its purpose to them .

In a few years anyone using AAVE will be considered on the same level as anyone using “rawr xD” language by the same whites who are now enthusiastically peppering AAVE in all their internet persona and its the black people who will be either shamed into stopping using their language too as well or be considered “cringey” for using it as they used to be considered before it became “cool” to use AAVE.

So like, if you are not black and love using AAVE every single moment on the internet, you better not pull out the “Omfg i was sooo embarrassing when i used to use all that stan language haha i cant believe i used to say all these things on my stan twitter account on a daily basis omfg” shit a few years from now on and yall better NOT make or reblog any memes or jokes making fun of anyone for using AAVE in case it becomes “outdated” in popular culture bc AAVE isnt a fucking trend for people to latch onto whenever its convenient for them and  throw away when it isnt.

This is where I live now.

Me and @beautifultrees07 are plotting to do a secret guerilla pumpkin patch in a neglected waste patch by a local freeway. It’s gonna look cute!

Update! We cleared this area of invasive (and abrasive!) weeds, hoed the rocky and barren soils, amended the earth (with a layer of straw for drainage and to hold moisture/encourage mycelium), created 18 pumpkin mounds of different varieties (Atlantic Giant, Jarrahdale, Lumina, Cinderella, Jack O’ Lantern, Musquee de Provence, and Red Warty Thing) in 96 degree weather so like, don’t even question our love for pumpkins and soil restoration! We added flowers for beautification and to attract pollinators. We moved discarded mattresses, furniture pieces, and removed bags of trash, glass, and dog poop. The pumpkin vines will reach maturity in October and we’re looking forward to the growth!

Update! Remember her??? Be careful who you call ugly!! Our guerilla garden/secret pumpkin patch is really shaping up! Pumpkin vines are growing strong and healthy, cucumber plants are producing, and corn stalks are growing taller! This lot used to be filled with dog poop, mattresses, and discarded furniture! Hopefully we’ll have pumpkins soon. Me and my two sisters laid all the groundwork for this garden and it’s being maintained mostly by one of my sisters and other volunteers. We love to restore the soil, revive barren land, and coax pumpkins from the earth just in time for Hallow’s Eve ~

Another update from August 5:

Foliage is thick and lush and baby pumpkins are forming! We’re excited for the turn of the season and to have a little pumpkin patch ready for Halloween

An update from today, August 7th! (btw you can follow the instagram page for this group garden @threesisters_garden). We have a lot of different pumpkin varieties! This one below is Atlantic Giant:

This next one is Red Warty Thing (yknow the one that’s red with warts)

And the one below is Jarrahdale (will be a silvery green pumpkin)

Update from August 16! Pumpkins are growing bigger and stronger by the day!

Look at the Red Warty Thing variety below! She is growing warts and we couldn’t be more proud!

If you want more pumpkin updates, you can follow our instagram page (@threesisters_garden)

Another update from today, August 23: the Red Warty Thing pumpkin has grown more warts!

Update to the thread: we harvested everything and they’re beautiful! Stunning!

Some pumpkins were stolen before they reached their full potential but these are the ones we managed to harvest! There are 5 different varieties in this line-up (from left to right, Jarrahdale, Jack O Lantern, Cinderella, Red Warty Thing, and Lumina). It’s wild to see how this little neglected strip of earth by the side of the freeway could produce such beautiful pumpkins with a few soil amendments and TLC

The pessimist in me is SHOCKED this wasn’t either vandalized or uprooted by local government employees.  GLAD IT WAS SUCCESSFUL.

The secret to success with this is that noone knows what’s supposed to be going on with this stretch of dirt. Everyone’s gonna look at the pumpkin patch and think ‘hey that’s a cool thing the city did!’. You can just plant stuff wherever because noone knows you’re not a contractor. You could probably put down a sign somewhere declaring it a community garden space and people would start planting stuff there, because who else would put a sign there if not the city? In fact, I think I’m gonna do that with the piece of grass behind my apartment

Basically @hyperactivehedgehog is right! We wore neon reflective vests while working on this and everyone assumed we were sent by the city or some official group. Even my friends and coworkers (at my day job) assumed I was being paid to do this because they saw pictures of me in my reflective orange vest. The city does have a budget to maintain neglected areas like this, but they don’t make it a priority to provide regular trash services or maintain it like the neighbors would like. So we essentially did the city’s job for them, free of charge and on our own dollar. We even made the sidewalk accessible by trimming back the weeds hanging over it and removing the trash blocking it. It’s something no one can be mad about. I think it also worked because the neighbors hated that everyone regarded the area as a dumping ground. So when anyone volunteers to clean it up, they’re just glad the trash is gone.

If anything this just shows the power of a reflective vest. Put on a hard hat, work pants and you’ll damn near be able to walk into anywhere.
