Shout out to all of you for making it through the winter! 🙌🌿⛅️

We’ve been perusing the massive ThinkGeek Spring Clearance Sale, wading through tons of discounted merch so you don’t have to (it’s really dangerous). 💸 The best thing about this sale is that it’s usually less affordable stuff, but some of the items have up to 80% off so there are some proper steals. We know you want a real bargain so we’ve cherry-picked some of the coolest items you can get for under $5. Enjoy!

We could go on forever, but we thought we’d better stop before we ended up buying all of the stuff and leaving you with nothing. If you’re tough enough you can check out the whole sale here, and if you want to be a big spender there are hundreds of items above the $5 mark too 💸 Let us know if you get anything!

Fire & Bone make miniature animal skull replicas, reproduced in high detail by 3D scanning real skulls. They can either be worn as jewellery or displayed on their wooden bases, and they have loads of different animals to choose from.

We received this Merino Ram skull in yellow bronze with a display base and we are officially in love 💀💕

It arrived packaged up in a little Fire & Bone branded box, which would be perfect for giving as a gift (but we refuse to part with ours). When we opened it up, we were immediately struck by how intricately detailed the piece was for its size. We knew that their process of scanning actual skulls made the pieces anatomically accurate, size aside, but until we held one in our hands we couldn’t fully appreciate how impressive they actually are.

The chain it comes with is quite long at 24 inches, so the skull hangs fairly low. With quite a big pendant like this (it measures 24mm x 33mm x 16mm) we think this is a good choice - when you wear it over a plain top it becomes a real statement piece. We found that the chain was a little more yellow than this particular skull so it didn’t match exactly, but it’s not particularly noticeable. The fixture allows the chain to be easily removed anyway, so if you wanted to get a chain of a different length or colour it could be easily swapped.

Our favourite thing about this piece is that it can be displayed when it’s not being worn. It’s always a shame when you have to store any nice piece of jewellery out of sight, but when it’s a miniature scientific specimen it really deserves to be out in the open. The base does cost an extra $5 but we think it’s totally worth the price. It’s adorably miniature, has a really charming vintage feel, and displays the name of the specimen which really ties it all together.

You can see Fire & Bone’s full range of miniature skulls on their website, here. If you buy one for yourself we’d love to see your pictures, so tag us on Twitter at @geekymerch!

It's finally almost the end of Winter! 🙌🌿 To celebrate getting through it, we're giving away a mystery box stuffed to the brim with geeky goodies. If you tell us what you're into we'll even tailor it especially to you, because we're thoughtful like that.

The giveaway is run through Gleam, and you can earn yourself multiple entries by reblogging this post on Tumblr as well as sharing on your other social media channels. It's open internationally, and one winner will be chosen on the first day of spring, 20 March 2018.

Tardigrades are water-dwelling micro-animals able to survive extreme conditions that would be fatal to nearly all other known life forms. They’re found everywhere from mountain tops to the deep sea, and from tropical rain forests to the Antarctic. This miniature 3D printed tardigrade sculpture from Eric Ho Raw can hang out in your house as a reminder to always be resilient. 💪
