#Repost @closetsareforclothes ・・・ We are often asked about our Olly tee and what the idea is behind it. Our ‘Olly Olly Oxen Free’ shirt is a reference to hide and go seek. It is the phrase yelled at the end of the game, when it is safe to come out, without losing the game. Closets Are for Clothes is shouting OLLY OLLY OXEN FREE, to anybody still holding their breath in the dark.

Check out our newest Olly design!

I think this is the most amazing and encouraging thing I've ever seen!

My brother came to me and said “What would you do if I was bisexual?” And I said “I’d laugh because that means our homophobic parents had TWO queer kids.” And thats story of how me and my brother came out to each other

A federal judge in Alabama today struck down that state’s ban on same-sex marriage, saying it violated same-sex couples’ rights to due process and equal protection. No stay has been placed, so same-sex couples should be able to marry as soon as clerks’ offices open.

“There has been no evidence presented that these marriage laws have any effect on the choices of couples to have or raise children, whether they are same-sex couples or opposite-sex couples,” Judge Granade writes. “In sum, the laws in question are an irrational way of promoting biological relationships in Alabama.”
Granade continues Alabama’s ban on same-sex marriage is unconstitutional for the same reason the U.S. Supreme Court ruled against the Defense of Marriage Act in 2013.
“If anything, Alabama’s prohibition of same-sex marriage detracts from its goal of promoting optimal environments for children,” Granade writes. “Those children currently being raised by same-sex parents in Alabama are just as worthy of protection and recognition by the State as are the children being raised by opposite-sex parents. Yet Alabama’s Sanctity laws harms the children of same-sex couples for the same reasons that the Supreme Court found that the Defense of Marriage Act harmed the children of same-sex couples.”

ALABAMA. YOU READ THAT RIGHT.

Wow, Alabama has gotten marriage equality before some of the states in the U.S... Interesting and awesome!

I yelled something similar to this at some dude at my college who said that it was okay for officers to empty their clips into people because “IT’S THE LAW”.

They all said “I’m just doing my job”. You can add apartheid to the list. These are all right wing ideologies, BTW.

I’m gonna be really sad when President Obama leaves office. Listening to him burn his political opponents in clever ways has been endless amounts of fun!

Imagine if we broke out of these tired old patterns. Imagine if we did something different. Understand — a better politics isn’t one where Democrats abandon their agenda or Republicans simply embrace mine. A better politics is one where we appeal to each other’s basic decency instead of our basest fears. A better politics is one where we debate without demonizing each other; where we talk issues, and values, and principles, and facts, rather than “gotcha” moments, or trivial gaffes, or fake controversies that have nothing to do with people’s daily lives. A better politics is one where we spend less time drowning in dark money for ads that pull us into the gutter, and spend more time lifting young people up, with a sense of purpose and possibility, and asking them to join in the great mission of building America. If we’re going to have arguments, let’s have arguments — but let’s make them debates worthy of this body and worthy of this country.

President Obama in the 2015 State of the Union.

There were a bunch of things I rolled my eyes at in this speech, but this passage really stuck with me for both its rhetorical brilliance and its message.

So well spoken #PrezObama is amazing!

With his last election behind him, Obama appears comfortable to once again serve as chief standard bearer for the liberal left that catapulted him into office in 2008. The only thing that both Democrats and Republicans can be certain of is that Obama won’t spend the last two years of his second and final term quietly planning his presidential library. Instead, he’ll roll up his sleeves and get back to fighting the fight that got him elected in the first place. Both times.

You have no idea how happy I am to see President Obama really start to push things through. Nothing is ever too late and I know he will end with an amazing year and a half!

And, honestly, the fact that the Republicans actually CLAPPED when the President said he didn’t have anymore campaigns to run? Completely inappropriate and disrespectful. I don’t care who you are or your political preference.

Obama did not sound like a man whose party had just lost the Senate. Nor did he appear at all prepared to accept the limits that Republicans want to place on his Presidency. Last night, Obama had the punchy, self-assured air of a President on a roll, freed of old encumbrances (a narrow, nervous Democratic majority in the Senate) and buoyed by both a big jump in his approval ratings and, most important, a growing economy.

In the SOTU President Obama addressed making college more affordable for future students, but what will the government due for those already suffering from student loan debt? Are there any loan reform plans on the way in 2015? #AsktheWH

Avatar

sprinklesmakelifebetter, thanks for the question! The President has already implemented several programs the help students with student loan debt.

The first two you need to know about are Income-Based Repayment and Pay As You Earn. Both make sure that students are paying what they can afford, and when they can afford it.

Both programs cap payments based on borrowers’ income — and you can learn more about them at StudentAid.gov (which is our federal government’s one-stop shop for all student aid related questions).

Lawmakers in Illinois and Virginia have introduced bills that would outlaw conversion therapy for minors.

Last week in Illinois, State Rep. Kelly Cassidy introduced the Conversion Therapy Prohibition Act, which would make it illegal for mental health providers to provide therapy that attempts to change the sexual orientation of patients under the age of 18. A similar bill failed in the Illinois House last year. In Virginia yesterday, Delegate Patrick Hope and Senator Louise Lucas also introduced a measure that would ban conversion therapy.

Conversion therapy for minors is illegal in California, New Jersey and Washington, D.C. and many, many medical associations have found the practice harmful, traumatic and certainly not scientifically sound.

“Illinois should be at the forefront of banning this failed and discredited non-therapy that attempts to change the unchangeable, our innate sexual orientation and gender identity,” said Bernard Cherkasov, CEO of Equality Illinois, the state’s oldest and largest civil rights organization advocating for LGBT Illinoisans.
“It is tragic,” said Rep. Cassidy, “that LGBT youth suffer at the hands of so-called experts whose therapies have been refuted by every legitimate medical and mental health organization. That is why my bill would label the therapy as ‘unprofessional conduct’ and subject the perpetrator to disciplinary action.”

Go, go, go.
