Why do you keep reblogging yourself

Because as an artist, gaining exposure for my works is critical! As a presence on the Internet, it is also impossible for me to make sure that all of my followers see my work at the same time.

A lot of my followers don’t live in the same time zone as I do. A lot of them also follow a TON of other people, so their dashes are relatively fast moving and posts get lost or easily looked over or don’t show up at all.

By reblogging myself multiple times, that puts the post back on the follower’s dash and hopefully gives them a chance to see it.

As artists, we survive by word of mouth, especially on the Internet. Spreading the content we produce allows us to create more content for you to look at and appreciate. So while likes, as a gesture of appreciation for what we do are great, it does nothing to get our stuff out there! Which is why reblogs are important.

The general rule of thumb is: do you like something an artist does? Reblog it and share it! That way I can do less self reblogging and I get to create more original content for you and more people can enjoy it and the world keeps spinning.

HOWEVER, if seeing something reblogged 3x a day bothers you, just download xkit and block the post after you have reblogged it. That way you still have access to it but you don’t see it over and over again.

Hope that helps!

Well I actually think artists need to believe in Tumblr not mystically eating their post instead >w>; Never heard that it would happen actually…?

For people who carefully make sure that they looked at everything on their dashboard every day religiously, seeing a post getting self-reblogged for like 2 times a day could be annoying enough ;A; Especially when the time in-between is only like, 5 hours? Do they really think that their followers would have their dashboard overflowed within that short amount of time?

And that too few artists actually use a constant “self-reblog” tag to give their followers a choice to blacklist the reblogged posts >m> At this rate I really should reconsider installing that “dim posts you’ve read already” Xkit add-on and hope it works…

ok a couple MASSIVE glaring problems w/what youre suggesting here

1.  Do they really think that their followers would have their dashboard overflowed within that short amount of time?

I have followers from all over the world, in all different time zones, who follow various amounts of blogs ranging from hundreds to thousands. If a follower follows 500 blogs PLUS mine and every one of those blogs makes 10-20 posts a day, thats a huge amount of posts to go through. Also tumblr’s UI sucks ass and likes to make posts not show up on dashes or get lost because god knows why, but its happened to me multiple times wherein a post i see on my mobile app wont show up on my pc dash and vice versa. when we reblog, we’re not taking into consideration the people who follow like 10 blogs and are meticulous about their dashes. we’re concerned about the whole of our following, that is, anywhere from 10k to 50k people and upwards, who might miss our posts bc their dashes are WAY more active than yours apparently is.

2. artists don’t use ‘self reblog’ tags bc they are detrimental!! let me explain: if you post something, and then reblog it later w/the self reblog tag, and people following you who have NOT seen that post yet but are blacklisting your self-reblog tag are going through their dash, they’re not going to see it. They might not ever see it based on the speed and density of the posts that show up on their dash. They might not see it bc as i said, tumblr’s UI is fucked. So this really doesn’t work at all bc if you’re blocking a tag that prevents you from seeing work you might have missed, it’s shitty for people on both ends.

3. if you want to dim posts, thats fine. if you want to block posts after you’ve reblogged them or liked them or whatever, that’s cool too. But do not tell people to stop self reblogging. If you genuinely have a problem with self reblogging, just unfollow the person who does it and don’t make a damn stink about it. Seriously. Not only are you making an ass out of yourself for telling someone how to run their own blog, you’re also putting someone down for doing their absolute best to get their product/talent/skill out there in order to show it to people who care and are interested in it.

It’s really appalling to me that in the last few days ive gotten an incredible number of people coming to me complaining about people (myself specifically) who self reblog, people who excitedly repost their work over and over again in hopes of pushing it further out into the net for visibility, complaining about people who are taking every avenue they have for self-promotion and marketing.

And I’m sorry, but no amoutn of >w>; and ;A; emoticons is going to lessen how awful your sentiment is. What is so bad about people doing their best to push themselves out into the open? Why do y’all hate it so much? Do you realise that while you’re sitting there complaining about how x person is sooo annoying with their self-promotion, you could be discouraging and severely and deeply hurting someone who otherwise has a promising career in art or comics or singing or whatever? Do you understand that by shitting on people who self-promote, no matter how you try to sugarcoat it, you might be preventing the next big thing in comics and art and sculpture and dance and acting and comedy from becoming the next big thing bc they get so tired of being shat on for being excited about their craft that they just give up?

Do you realise that while you’re telling people that they’re being annoying for self promoting, ten years down the line, that very person you got fed up with might be your new absolute favourite author or artist?

Like cmon now this is getting ridiculous. We need to abolish this idea that self promoting is bad or negative or crappy or irritating or bothersome.

There are so many ways to promote artists you love and keep your dash clean, so complaining about it is really pointless, really harmful, and really cruel/thoughtless.

But then again, I’m just an independent artist trying to make a living doing what I love so, yknow, what do i know.

Reblogging because self promotion is an important thing for artists and other independent types. Because no one out there is doing it for us! We are our own marketing department.

this is so shit because for the longest time I was concerned about being annoying or egotisctical by roblogging myself, even more than twice.
