my little brother came into my room and told me that there was water all over the bathroom floor so i got up and grabbed a towel and ran into the bathroom to find all of my water energy pokemon cards sprawled out on the floor this kid is 5 fucking years old and he got me

Cavemen adorned in white coats & safety goggles working diligently with welding gear and beakers on PROJECT: WHEEL
Cave scientists huddled around a rotating holographic projection of a prototype throwing spear
Wearing full hazmat suits and watching from a bunker 500 meters away as the first berry is picked
This idea grabbed me.
the decrease in costuming quality over the last 20 years has been soooo precipitous & nauseating. i’m not even talking abt marvel’s cg supersuits or anything this time, look at the fabric quality, structure, layering, character, and craftsmanship of older costumes in 102 dalmations (2000) vs cruella (2021)
ever after (1998) vs cinderella (2021)
lord of the rings (2001-2003) vs the rings of power (2022)
this trend should upset you not just because it looks cheap, but because it suggests a strong anti-art and anti-labor movement in film and tv making. don’t forget costumers are unionized
Where did the whopping huge meteor come down? I assume if there are core samples, we know where it was, and maybe there are remnants of it?
Chicxulub Puerto, Yucatan, Mexico, fucking exactly
also the people of Chicxulub Puerto are fully aware of this, and even created a memorial for all of dinosaurkind on their own dime!
and personally, I think this single heartfelt block of concrete is more fitting than any number of sleek expensive monoliths in the world's best museums.
at an unremarkable time in this unremarkable place, the world ended, once. it's good to remember that.
Oh...man...

Garden of Hope - James Gurney (detail)
oh my god, but what is this painting without the dinosaur?
why would you crop the dinosaur
Somebody’s not a fan of Dinotopia. James Gurney’s art is amazing.
He modeled for that last one himself, which is just great.
Long live Dinotopia and James Gurney!
Every once in a while a new music genre gets invented and people from all different countries are like this slaps we got to start doing that and combine it with our own music styles and that's beautiful
There was a time when China got really into jazz and so did Ethiopia. Cambodia got really into Psychedelic Rock to the point that there's now an contemporary American band specialised in this style of music. There's a band from my hometown in Germany singing in Spanish and I know several early 20th century Japanese and Chinese artists were doing the same. Zambia had it's own Rock movement. Ska is from Jamaica but I know Japanese, Basque and Spanish ska bands. You can probably find hip hop and rap in all languages of the world by now. I watched an entire documentary on the history of South American rock and roll. There is a Cuban orchestra mixing Mozart and guajira. Finnish tango. German covers of Irish folk music. Blues from the Sahara.
This hack will save your teeth: there are no “right” and “wrong” times to brush your teeth.
It gets in your head that you brush after eating when you wake up and when you go to sleep. Yeah that’s all well and good, but those are times that don’t have a lot of motivation and control…So just…brush your teeth at a different time.
You go to the bathroom in the middle of the day and are like “I should brush my teeth” DO IT!!!! Don’t listen to the other half of that sentence that says “shit but it’s not the right time”
I don’t care if you’re about to eat, or get coffee, or whatever.
If you are there and you want to…do it.
Honestly this hack will solve most of problems. Just stop assigning meaningless “right” and “wrong” to tasks and start saying “I can pretty much do whatever I want whenever I want and society and its expectations don’t really matter to me”.
If there’s no barrier in the first place you don’t have to get over it.
huge ADHD hack. if you can get over the “all or nothing”, moralizing, judging aspect of every action you “should” take, you’ll discover you can get more done than you expect.
I’m a big fan of the 2 PM shower. spend a whole morning feeling lazy and guilty, then just decide to start the day over again, even if it is lunchtime.
you can always begin again. any hour, any moment can be the beginning. you can choose that. the clock doesn’t run you, you run the clock
everyone has a ship thats just: theyre perfect. they hate each other. theyre married. they havent spoken in 15 years. they have date nights three times a week. theyre divorced. theyre pining, its unrequited. its requited. theyre starcrossed. theyre meant to be. theyre doomed by the narrative. they love each other. theyve never held hands. they wont stop making out at parties. they cant look each other in the eye
If Anathema and Newt hadn't burned the other prophecies they would have found one that went something like "When that the Angel and Demon speaketh of an Us, like Two that came before and thus ran to the starres, their wordes shall cross the starres of their own fates, a nightingale shall close its solemn beak, and all ye who watch shall utter 'What Thee Fuck, You Are Both Bloody Idiots'."
Please, never let this meme die.
This is the best one I’ve seen so far
What kind of quantum fucking memeing from 2056 are you people beaming to us

imagine if doorways grew back like scabbed over with fresh drywall and you had to keep carving them back out with a jabsaw to keep the doorway clear etc
Imagine if the membranes recoiled in pain every time you did this. Imagine if over time, some doorways became accustomed sensation. Imagine that very rarely, some even seemed to enjoy it.

And it’s not like other languages don’t offer the ability to switch registers; many do, in various different ways, often not easily translated into English.
But most other languages don’t do this by literally switching which sub-language of themselves you’re using.
It also makes it somewhat more ambiguous in English—in other languages (at least, the ones I’m familiar with; I won’t try to make a universal claim!), switching registers is an explicit thing. You’ll use the informal form, or you’ll use the formal. In English, because it’s just using different words with roughly the same definitions, in a language richly supplied with synonyms, it’s not that hard to, say, write an introduction for a character who’s speaking primarily in the upper, Latinate, register—but without genuinely intending to be presenting themselves as formal, educated, or snobbish.
And I just think that’s neat.
Say what you want about English it’s extremely versatile when it comes to unsaid implications and such. Which is why it’s so fucking hard to learn sometimes.
