Star Trek is Life

@futurestarfleetcaptain / futurestarfleetcaptain.tumblr.com

I almost exclusively post about Star Trek here, so you know exactly what to expect

Since you all like my Vulcans are Felines content, I thought I’d throw out some more ideas I’ve been thinking about:

“If it fits, it sits.” Vulcan toddlers have the same instincts as kittens and will randomly climb into boxes and hang out in tight spaces if they look cozy. They mostly grow out of it as adults, but once in a while, they’ll see a nice looking box and have to suppress the urge to curl up in it.

Vulcans are not arboreal, which usually doesn’t matter since the planet Vulcan isn’t really known for tall trees. But when they go to planets that have tall trees they’re likely to get stuck. They’re good at climbing up. Not so much at climbing down. Be ready with a ladder if your Vulcan ensign is traveling to a heavily forested planet for the first time.

Vulcans don’t like having water on them and most dislike swimming. Spock got some of his mother’s water-loving genes so he’s not as bothered by it and a decent swimmer (as we see in Star Trek VI: The Voyage Home). The rest of Vulcans aren’t too enamored with the idea of being submerged in water. For hygiene, they used to use sandscrubs in the old times, and now they mostly use sonic showers. It also helps that they don’t sweat.

the part about liking boxes and tight spaces just got me thinking about like. someone opening up a jeffries tube and finding a random vulcan officer on their break just sitting in there.

This is why Taurik is an engineer. So he can cuddle up work in the jeffries tubes.

I think Vulcans should also have the righting reflex, which is that thing cats do where they land on their feet by twisting around when they fall, and they just naturally know where to arrange their legs. This does require gravity to work.

So the ability to land on their feet with ease would just make humans think Vulcans are uncannily graceful, like cats, except if you’ve ever owned a cat you know that the grace is a lie. The righting reflex can fail, usually when a fall is short and unexpected. You know, like most falls are in daily life. When this happens, they manage to fit an impressive amount of spazzed out flailing into a split second or falling and it’s hilarious.

I fully support this headcanon

Star Trek ENT : Fallen Hero 1x23 - I’m sure that Andorian are tough especially facing Vulcans.

Archer : T'Pol tells me you negotiated the first territorial accords between Vulcan and Andoria.

V'Lar : The Andorians required a somewhat firmer hand at the negotiating table. But I was younger then. That was before we even made contact with Earth.

the way vulcans talk about pon farr almost seems like they’re reciting something, so i feel like it’s almost feasible to believe that sex ed on vulcan is limited to a single standardized pamphlet that every vulcan receives once they reach a certain age.

the first day of vulcan sixth grade, the teacher passes out little sealed envelopes and inside each one is a single tri-folded sheet of paper. she tells them to read it, memorize it, then put it back in the envelope and return it to her, and never speak of it again unless absolutely medically necessary (and even then, only if you’re either a. literally on the brink of death, or b. you ship’s cmo is being really pushy when asking about your condition).

“We do not speak of it with outsiders” and “We are driven by forces outside of our control” are the Vulcan version of “mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell.”

Why don’t we ever talk about the fact that leonard nimoy had to walk off set because of tooth pain and show up at his dentist dressed as spock

Also Brent Spiner broke his mandible during the filming of ‘The Game’ and had to be taken to hospital dressed as Data

an earthquake happened near the DS9 set once and Armin Shimerman went racing home to his family in full-on Quark makeup

Andy Robinson also went home after that earthquake in full Garak makeup and the traffic lights weren’t working so people had to make eye contact at the intersections and he says everybody always let him go first

I mean, be honest, if after a natural disaster you saw an obvious space alien driving a ford focus you’d let him go past, too

(ID - 4 screencaps of Charlene Masters from Star Trek: the original series. She’s a young black human woman, she has her hair short and is wearing a blue Skant starfleet uniform. She’s seen holding a black rectangular technology, standing next to Kirk, and fiddling with a control panel. End ID)

                                           Spock

(I will make series of Star Trek art based on different famous works, this one is based on Anthony van Dyck ‘Charles I in Three Positions’)

Happy Birthday to all Spocks out there!! 😘💙

k so i’m probably one of enterprise’s biggest fans but i will be the first to admit that the writers dropped the ball BIG TIME on that one. i mean let’s look at what the show had going for it: great concept, compelling characters and back stories, 4 series and several movies worth of previous canon to pull from, interesting aliens, etc. and what did they do with all those great tools and building blocks? they did…. that. if you’ve seen enterprise you know what i mean. so here’s a list of major things i think the writers should have done differently (spoilers ahead):

- make malcolm reed canonically gay

- THAT FUCKING COGENITOR EPISODE. NO. but honestly i was on board for like almost the whole episode thinking it was going to turn out to be one of my favorites because i expected that when the cogenitor asked for asylum archer would say yes and end up making an enemy out of the whole species but sticking to his decision anyway because it’s the right thing to do. but instead we got… that. so let’s just pretend my version happened instead ok? let’s not think about the real ending

- trip doesn’t die. like what kind of bullshit was that? what purpose did it serve?? shock value right at the end as the series was ending??? no thank you

- reed is actually gay in canon

- more xindi. like, after the whole xindi storyline thing. because 6 sentient species on one planet?? i want to hear more about that. i want to know more about their culture. once everything was resolved and they weren’t the bad guys anymore, i wish we’d gotten to see more of them

- malcolm reed is gay

- t’pol gets a uniform or at least some regular vulcan clothes instead of a catsuit

- lieutenant reed and major hayes are gay and they are dating

- ok i saw a post one time but i can’t find it anymore so if anybody can find it please tell me because they deserve the credit for this idea but instead of zephram cochrane shooting the vulcans when they land (as much as i love that) what if the terran empire in the mirrorverse rises because of xenophobia after the xindi attack? the showed aired only a few short years after 9/11 which triggered a lot of racism/hatred against middle eastern people and muslims or even just people who LOOK like they could be middle eastern or muslim and i know they had that parallel with the xenophobia against phlox even though his people were in no way part of the attack but following that up with having it turn into the terran empire would’ve sent a potent message about where that kind of bigotry and prejudice can lead

- MALCOLM REED IS GAY

feel free to add more

-THEY DON’T FUCKING KILL TRIP TUCKER

-they have some of the more minor characters more screen time

- MALCOM REED IS G A Y

-more Shran -that last episode

-I wishe that they kept Trip and T'Pol together

-they should’ve let us see T'Pol meet Trip’s parents

-the fact that Malcom Reed is gay

-TRAVIS MAYWEATHER DESERVES PLOT LINES. Seriously, first generation to grow up in space. He’s probably used to meeting aliens. Also, he’s basically the only black character and we get one (seriously only 1?!) episode dedicated to him. They should have gone to a planet that he’s been to before, but Starfleet hasn’t. So much wasted character potential.

- Cogenitor makes me want to smack the idiot writer who decided that was a good message to bring into the world.

-Handle the mpreg episode more seriously. I’m fine with Trip making jokes at his own expense, since that kind of seems like a way he might cope with something stressful, but the way T'Pol and Archer deride him for it is terrible. Also, they need to either have had him and the alien woman have actual sex OR have her being clearly just as confused as to how Trip got pregnant since that’s not the way their species does that (it was something weird to do with human biology). The implication that she knew it was sex and Trip didn’t is fucked up.

- Malcolm should be gay

-Similar to Travis, but to a lesser degree since she at least has a few episodes, I want some more Hoshi development. Is she now thankful for her decision to go into space? How was she affected by being captured by the xindi?

-They needed to give a better explanation as to why Malcolm disliked Hayes so much. Hayes doesn’t seem to do anything terrible really but Malcolm pretty much resents him, day one. Why? (Reed, hon, if you’re attracted to him, why are you panicking?)

-fuck cat suits. Fuck ‘em.

-Also just screw TATV.

-Seriously, they play that mpreg episode for laughs cause Trip got pregnant BUT the implications of her having alien marble sex with him without fully informing him and nobody back on the nx-01 taking him seriously because of his reputation as somewhat promiscuous are worrisome to say the LEAST

-FUCK The Cogenitor. Holy FUCK.

- Travis, Hoshi, and T'Pol (please give her a uniform) get more development independent of other characters like Archer and Trip. Just give them something of their own, ya know?

- Malcolm is gay and finally works ot out with Hayes.

- Elizabeth doesn’t have to die. I’m not fussed about whether Trip and T'Pol get back together and they would probably make awesome co-parents but at least let Elizabeth live (idk maybe she gets life-saving gene therapy that replaces either her human or vulcan genes or something so Trek can hold onto the concept of Spock being a unique being).

- Shran doesn’t get a slapshod shoehorned-in finale storyline. In fact, he joins the nx-01 crew as a special advisor just as originally planned.

- Archer actually makes a meaningful apology to Hoshi for his shitty shitty treatment of her in “Zero Hour”.

- More Denobulans please. They mention all that backstory about Phlox’s kids, particularly his strained relationship with one particular son, and yet we never get to meet any of them? Plus I wanna see Feezal and Phlox’s other wives, and their other husbands, and the whole damn polycule/extended family! Challenge the american nuclear family structure goddammit!
