“Here. Here is simple and happy. That’s what I meant to give you”.
Dear Society
I can’t help but observe
the sharp words
“Don’t be a little bitch, you’re such a little girl,”
to a guy
who is crying
when he is 10
and has skinned his knee,
and it is ingrained
in his brain
that for a male to cry
isn’t sane.
“You’re such a tomboy.”
to a girl
who doesn’t curl her hair
when she is 13
and doesn’t smile invitingly
and she’s not ladylike
and has no “soft feminine charm”
and is told she’s unappealing
for not wearing things that are revealing.
A man
should take charge,
be intimidating and large,
and to have vulnerabilities
is considered a disability,
and this
is the definition
of society’s “masculinity”.
A woman
should be dainty,
and live her life
as if she’s sitting still for a painting
a pretty picture of society’s “femininity.”
She can’t play sports,
girls are bad at that,
go easy on her,
she’ll be a ditz,
and probably fall on her ass.
Guys can’t like ballet,
man that’s fucking gay,
letting your son wear pink because he likes it,
and it’s a girl color,
is considered a bold display.
Walking in heels should be a natural talent for our young females,
it’s okay if he’s being gross, he’s just being a typical guy.
A woman doesn’t smile and is rude,
she puts on a dress,
slaps lipstick on,
tears that outfit off
and wears a shorter dress,
because she’s been called a prude.
A hand slips up her dress,
the suspect doesn’t get arrested,
because people are questioning her attire.
A man gets backed up against a wall,
a woman’s hand slowly crawls,
when he tells,
people laugh
“Guys can’t get raped.”
and
“What a liar.”
I have a question, society,
when will these ideas expire?
Sometimes it’s okay if the only thing you did today was breathe~
