View of the Boyne Valley from the impressive passage grave of Newgrange in County Meath, Ireland. Built during the Neolithic period (around 3200 BC) Newgrange is a monumental passage tomb consisting of a large circular mound with an inner stone passageway and chambers that is aligned with the rising sun on the winter solstice, when the sunlight enters through a ‘roofbox’ and floods inside, illuminating the inner chamber. The archaeological site is part of the Brú na Bóinne UNESCO World Heritage Site.
