*touching his extremely defined six pack* who did this to you.....
i hate the “on average a user only sees 25 posts per session so they have to be good and varied” bullshit on that staff post. if i open tumblr and the 25 posts i see are nothing but a single mutual mass reblogging their favourite thing that i couldn’t care less about. well. that’s what i enjoy
happy disability pride month here are the 4 things i would tell people who are newly diagnosed with disability/ies or are trying to get diagnosed with (a) disability/ies in the united states are:
- you have to get good at lying to doctors and you have to stop feeling bad about it. when you see a doctor you are being thrust into a game where they have all the power over your medical care. if they tell you lose weight/change you diet/whatever and you dont want to or cant, lie about it. say 'i did everything you suggested but nothing got better/i couldnt lose weight to do [symptom], [symptom], and [symptom]'. especially if youve already tried those things prior to your appointment and they didnt do anything for you. doctors dont care that they didnt do anything in the past they will keep suggesting the same things over and over again. do not take this advice to mean 'you should make up symptoms' that is not what im saying. im saying lie about the things that will get you better care and get doctors to listen to you. this is not the same as lying to a friend this can make or break what medical care you are able to get
- exaggerate your symptoms/frame your symptoms in a certain way. again: do not make up symptoms you are not experiencing but exaggerating is your best friend. lie about your pain level. play up the fact that [symptom(s)] is/are preventing you from working or going to school. presenting yourself as a person who just wants to get better so they can go to work/school whatever (even if that is not your goal!) can make doctors listen to your more and take you more seriously. focusing on function rather than pain can be crucial in having tests run EVEN IF YOU DONT FEEL THAT WAY. even if you just want the pain treated because it sucks to be in pain all the time. you have to fit your symptoms into their specific box/point of view
- researching the condition(s) you think you have is your best friend. i dont fucking care about self diagnosis or whatever, the medical system REQUIRES YOU to have prior knowledge of what you think you have so you know what test should be ordered/how to get the doctor to order those tests. this is also a vital thing you have to know in order to get diagnosed to receive treatment and again: i dont fucking care if youre against self diagnosis this is something that has saved my ass on multiple occasions and will probably save yours!
- you know your body and experiences better than anyone else ever will especially with rare disease. dont let doctors gaslight you into thinking they know more about your OWN BODY + YOUR OWN EXPERIENCES than you do. even if they tell you your pain is all in your head you are the expert on your own experience. dont let them tell you otherwise
I originally posted this on tiktok but i’ll put it here too
Still practicing the coloring for them lol
i don't know if tumblr has seen this yet but this is honest to god my favorite video
happy yaoi day
Look I get that we all want to relate to one another. I really do. But seeing people on my post about how shitty it is to exist as a visibly deformed & disabled person in public say things like "that's why i don't stim in public" or "that's why i'm scared to bring my cane in public" is just... You're missing the point.
Some of us cannot mask our disabilities. You can simply not stim if you can supress it in the first place. You can leave your cane at home if you're doing that already in the first place. A knee brace doesn't make you look like a "freak". You do appear abled otherwise.
I cannot. Many people I know cannot. I can't just "hide" my deformities and abnormal gait or convulsions to appear abled. I *need* my crutches everywhere I go. I can't supress my tics. Full-time wheelchair users exist. High support needs autistics exist. Schizospecs who cannot mask exist. People with William's Sydrome, Down's Syndrome and various obvious deformities exist. Little people. People with severe chemical burns or otherwise or scarring. People with Parkinson's, Tourette's, Huntington's, Cerebral Palsy, every disabled person who looks "abnormal".
We can't just "turn it off" like you. People WILL stare at us. Point their fingers at us. We have no power. They used to put us into freakshows. Not you. Not you who can hide your disability to "appear normal". That post was not for you to "relate to". I and many people are sick of many invisibly disabled people claiming they "want to look disabled" so they'd be "taken more seriously". It's not an invitation of you to declare you leaving your mobility aid at home or shit like that. It's not the damn same.
the concept of a freakshow never fully went away. nowadays people collect posts/screenshots of disabled/mentally ill people literally just Existing Online and put them on their accounts with the intention of displaying them for people to hurl abuse towards. And they think that this is a Normal and Moral way to behave and carry themselves.
Fun life hack: give me $50 :3
Every single time there is a catastrophic flood (so, every six weeks or so) the news will post pictures of people out in their kayaks or canoes pretending its Venice without any commentary and it makes me completely insane. This is dangerous and people die doing it.
- Do not go into the floodwater unless the risk of staying where you are is somehow greater than the risk of going in the floodwater. Do not get in the floodwater except as a last resort.
- The water itself is bad news (raw sewage, fire ants, industrial runoff) but the danger here is in the movement of the water: water flowing down a street has currents. Sometimes you can see them and sometimes you can't. 12 inches of water can move a car. What do you think a few feet will do to you in your dinky little sit-on-top if you get tired? Who is coming to rescue you if the water starts taking you somewhere you don't want to be?
- Visibility in floodwater is shit. You cannot see obstacles (submerged cars, mailboxes, trashcans, etc). Trees and fences will become strainers (imagine pouring pasta into a colander. Now imagine you are the pasta and the force of constantly moving water is holding you in place). If you come out of your vessel you could potentially encounter open manholes or storm drains that suck people in (a lot of water draining through them creates powerful suction!!). People walking in floodwaters regularly step off a curb and are suddenly immersed in moving water well over their head.
- Somehow, despite all this, these people NEVER have LIFEJACKETS on!! You own a boat but not a lifejacket?? Not that a lifejacket would make this a good idea, but if you are forced to abandon your home/car/whatever and get in the water a lifejacket might very well SAVE YOUR LIFE.
Look at a picture of professional swiftwater rescuers operating in a flood situation. They have on lifejackets, drysuits, helmets, boots, and a shit ton of gear. You are in a two-piece bathing suit and a shitty walmart paddleboard. DON'T BE STUPID. IT'S NOT WORTH IT.
sorry for the all caps lecture but one drowning is too many.
I think that 2023 is a good time for many of us, and allies in particular, to practice again the dying art of minding our own fucking business when it comes to the identities and lives of other people.
You see someone from one of your classes in a public place with a different gender presentation/expression than they typically have? Mind your own business.
You discover that one of your coworkers is in a same gender relationship, but they aren't out at work? Not your place to share that information in the workplace.
You notice that your neighbor in a red state takes a road trip across state lines with their transgender child every 3-6 months? No you fucking didn't.
You overhear students in your classroom using a different name and different pronouns for one student than you are used to using? If you live in a state hostile to trans rights, pretend that you don't know anything about this and report nothing.
You suspect that an acquaintance of yours might be gay, but they deny it when asked directly? Leave them the fuck alone.
One of your friends refuses to publicly label their sexuality? Good for them, you aren't entitled to that information anyway.
Your sibling comes out to you as questioning, but isn't comfortable sharing that with your parents yet? Keep your fucking mouth shut.
Don't out people; coming out is a personal choice not a moral obligation. Don't demand personal information about other people's sexuality or sex lives. You aren't entitled to information about anyone's gender identity, assigned gender at birth, or transition.
Bring back privacy, allow people to have control over the information that is shared about them publicly; it might save their job, their housing, their parental rights and their child's safety, or even save lives.

DO NOT ENGAGE WITH BLUE CHECKS
Elon Musk is paying blue checks for ad revenue in the replies of their Tweets now. He is only paying "verified" accounts for this, even if the account in question has hundreds of thousands of followers.
Do not reply, quote-tweet, or retweet any posts made by a user with a blue check.
Spread the word. Quit Twitter.
I'm not used to my posts blowing up so getting 2,200+ votes on the last one was a shock
can we go even higher?
rb and all that jazz
I will not be calling Twitter “X”. I will not be calling HBOMax “Max”. And I will never call Facebook “Meta”.
These names are the branding equivalent of greige. Uninspired, personality-less “minimalist” rebranding die challenge.
alright fuck it reblog this I'm curious to see how fast it gets flagged
