Update

I'm Jason, one of the mods, apologies for not keeping up with this blog. My personal is thehorrortwink, which is always updated.

LGBTCINEMA’S TOP FILMS OF 2016

I mean, first off, I’d like to thank everyone who follows this blog, from the bottom of my heart, for real. You’re all so genuinely nice and gay, and even though this blog was made in March 2016, I’ve accumulated so many followers, been tagged in so many posts, and learned all about your favourite LGBT movies originating in your home countries all around the world. It’s been cool, you guys.

Second, I’d like to talk about the diversity of these films. A good portion of my top ten are pretty diverse in terms of race, Religion, and gender. Q-Cinema has always been about as diverse as a ‘50s Hollywood musical well into the 2000s, even, but recently it’s been getting a hell of a lot more diverse - if this list had been made in, like, 2013, oh wow, it would have been bad - so that’s pretty cool. In terms of body diversity and skin darkness/lightness, we could do a lot better, but then again we could do better with a lot of things in this genre, and I believe we are beginning to do so.

Lopping off diversity here, all the characters in my top 20 are LGBPQ characters. I’m ashamed to say that unfortunately, there isn’t any film in this list starring/revolving around a trans character, but it’s not because I watched the PLENTY I had and thought, “oh these are all bad”. There literally were none. Whereas if I made this list in 2015, I’d have a good five films or so to put here (what a fucking year). What happened though, that we got none this year? All I know in terms of LGBT films actually starring a trans person this year was Real Boy, a documentary which I haven’t gotten the chance to see yet, in festivals or online. Other than that, there was the iffy Girls Lost. And trust me, it wasn’t good, in any way, representation-wise or story-wise or acting-wise or anything-wise. Also I think it was made in 2014 but re-released for 2016? I don’t know, it’s just bad. So next year, I’d like to see some more films centering around trans characters.

And now I’ll lop off of next year - 2017 seems fucking incredible for LGBT films (of ALL kinds). Like, typing this out right now, I’m breaking out into a grin. We have SO MUCH TO LOOK FORWARD TO. I can’t break it all down here, because it’s really too much, starring too many famous actors and being directed by too many famous directors, so you can check out this tag or this page, which I am constantly updating, if you wanna be in the know!

I won’t lie, I have a thousand more things to say, but I think it’s time to get to the point of this list. Without further ado, kids.

Choose life. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family. Choose a fucking big television. Choose washing machines, cars, compact disc players, and electrical tin openers. Choose good health, low cholesterol, and dental insurance. Choose fixed-interest mortgage repayments. Choose a starter home. Choose your friends. Choose leisure wear and matching luggage. Choose a three piece suite on hire purchase in a range of fucking fabrics. Choose DIY and wondering who the fuck  you are on a Sunday morning. Choose sitting on that couch watching mind-numbing, spirit-crushing game shows, stuffing fucking junk food into your mouth. Choose rotting away at the end of it all, pishing you last in a miserable home, nothing more than an embarrassment to the selfish, fucked-up brats you have spawned to replace yourself. Choose your future. Choose life. But why would I want to do a thing like that?
