Irondad Stories Part II

Here it is, Part II for my favorite fanfics and stories of the Irondad fandom that I absolutely can’t live without!

Hope you enjoy it xx

- Built From Scraps by @peter-stank : The one where Tony was dusted instead of peter, so he and pepper try to figure out the whole ‘family’ thing together.

- In My Dreams by MaryaDmitrievnaLikesSundays: The homeless Peter AU where civil war didn’t happen, Spiderman’s Identity is still, a mystery and May got shot with Ben.

- Apartment 43B by @ironfamjam : After Peter gets stabbed clean through; he knows he can’t let May see. His genius plan? Sneak into his best friend’s apartment and clean himself up. The problem? It’s the wrong apartment. Enter Tony Stark, the ex-CEO that disappeared off the face of the earth three years ago, armed with his handy little first aid kit, custom made coffee machine, and witty anecdotes. Somehow, the breaking in becomes a habit.

- The Case Of The Sinister Spider by @ironfamjam : In New York City, Peter Parker finds his entire life ended when he gets a phone call informing him of May Parker’s tragic accident. But when new evidence comes to light proving foul play, no one in the NYPD will give Peter the time of day. No one that is, except genius consulting detective on probation, Tony Stark. But Tony has his own demons to fight. Struggling to maintain his sobriety after a tragedy in London forced him overseas; Tony learns that what mends hearts might not be at the bottom of a bottle, but something like a string of unsolved murders and perhaps even love.

- Damaged At Best (Like you’ve Already Figured It Out) by @jolinarjackson and @shoyzz-art : The Avengers are left shaken in the aftermath of the Sokovia Accords. With half the team under house arrest at the Compound, Tony finds himself seeking refuge in Avengers Tower and starts forming a tentative friendship with the neighborhood vigilante Spider-Man. A friendship which is quickly threatened by Secretary Ross doubting Spider-Man’s intentions and integrity. Tony is left wondering who to trust, especially when Spider-Man manages to uncover the one secret Tony never wanted anyone to know about: the child Tony had with a woman named Mary Fitzpatrick sixteen years ago.

- Ever in Your Favor by @iron–spider : He remembers what day it is, and his heart beats like a drum at someone’s execution. But he tries to put on a mask, make it all seem normal. It’s everything but, despite the fact that he’s been dealing with reaping day since he was born, between himself, Ben and May. That fear that one of them could be taken away. Sent to surefire slaughter. But now Ben is gone, taken despite never having his name drawn from a bowl, and May’s finally safe. Now Peter’s name is in there alone. The last Parker sitting on the chopping block. He doesn’t know how to be. He doesn’t know what normal is when the Hunger Games are looming on the horizon. Hunger Games AU.

- His Greatest Creation Series by @peter-stank : The one where Tony finds out he’s going to have a kid and he thinks maybe, just maybe, he could try giving the whole ‘dad’ thing a go.

- Someday we’ll know by @seek-rest : Peter dazed off in class all the time, daydreaming. She didn’t stalk him, she just liked to keep tabs on people - and it seemed that Peter had become even more distracted than he had ever been before the Blip. Peter was a flake - aloof and quiet in a way that bothered Michelle. He’d been interesting once, always hiding and clearly trying to sneak off and do Spider-Man things. Michelle didn’t know what it was, what other secrets Peter Parker had. But she was absolutely positive she had no interest in learning any more of them. A Walk to Remember AU.

- Then I will Carry You by @ironwebbs : Peter finds Tony in Siberia and tries to bring him home, not realizing how dangerous the Siberian winter could be.

- The Adventures of Spidy-Son and Iron-Dad Series by eva7673Peter has a nasty habit of falling. And Tony, bless him, will catch him every. single. time. Until the day he can’t.

Alien: You’re telling me that in times of great distress humans have been known to suddenly gain the strength necessary to lift objects more than a dozen times their own weight?!

Human: Yeah, it’s called “hysterical strength” and it usually happens in life-or-death situations, like when someone gets stuck under a car or something and someone lifts the car to get them out. We can’t really test it though, ‘cause it only happens spontaneously.

Alien: Humans have the ability to tap into untold strength and power and you don’t even know how you do it?

Human: Pretty much, yeah. We think it has something to do with temporary analgesia, so we just don’t feel the pain we should when we pick up a 3000-pound car.

Alien: YOUR PAIN RESPONSE JUST SHUTS OFF?

Human: Yeah, it’s like an adrenaline thing? Do you not have that?

Alien: Fuck you and your entire species of tiny juggernauts.

Did this post just use a dialogue format to trick me into learning science

SCIENCE!

Just so you guys know. Hysterical strength is basically your body not holding back and going %100 though there is a great danger of you hurting yourself or breaking something since your ignoring pain and going %100. There was a case where a kid deadlifted a car to save a sibling but, cracked 8 of his teeth during it because he was clenching his jaw so hard. So whilst you can lift a car or fight off polar bears. Your probably going to break something. Because most of the time when we are “giving our all” we are only giving a fraction of what we could give and this is because if we truly give our all we can seriously injure ourselves.

This is literally an explanation of Deku and his abilities with One For All.

Humans naturally hold back because our muscles have enough strength to rip themselves apart

STOP GIVING THE ALIENS REASONS NOT TO VISIT.

@celestial-naiad the whole one million percent smash was actually hysterical strength, according to horikoshi.

on an unrelated note, did you know that if all the muscles in your back clenched at once your spine would shatter? have fun!!

Thats a horrifying and empowering thought at the same time.

Also: when you are sufficiently electrocuted and “thrown back” what is actually happening is your muscles contracting so hard and fast you essentially fling yourself away from the dangerous thing.

This is the same stuff that stops you from biting off your own fingers and whatnot. Our brains just say ‘no, don’t,’ whenever we try to do some dumbass shit, until we reach the point where it’s either do the dumbass shit or die/watch someone else die. I think it’s really cool though that we can shut off this function for others than ourselves. It shows a lot how we truly are social creatures at our core, that we don’t just do this when it’s our own body that might die, but for others in our community as well.

This is why a zombie would be extremely terrifying for a short period, and then neutralize itself. No fear and no pain means it could rip apart the gates to your fortress with its bare hands, but it would tear its arms or break its back in the process and never do anything very dangerous again.

This also means that anybody with a magical super-healing power would essentially get super strength out of the mix for free if they could get past the psychological limitations. That’s probably what makes vampires so strong; they don’t actually put out any more force than a normal human but they repair any damage they take in the process almost instantly.

@krunchy-tuna why would you hide this hilarious comment in the tags

irondad writers we ❤️ you

‘cause sometimes you just gotta spread the love.

Disclaimer: This will obviously not entail every single amazing writer but feel free to reblog with your faves and show us (and everyone else) what we’ve been missing out on.

Now, without further ado, here are some of our favorite writers in this fandom in no particular order:

@theoceanismyinkwell with everything she writes really, but especially the A Little Unsteady series is a masterpiece. The characters come to life in her stories and they struggle and fall and always stand back up again.

@ironfamjam and her truly magnificent work Filling The Gaps have redefined co-parenting and it’s a joy to read these long ass chapters while hoping they never ever end.

@geekymoviemom is more than her fantastic story Sins Of The Fathers but it’s definitely one of the most beautiful works in this fandom that is sadly almost over. Watch us cry and already miss our favorite Monday evening read.

@losingmymindtonight of course, how could we forget? There’s really no one story to get just how amazing a writer she is because her way with words enchants you and captures you until you’re halfway through And You’ll Blow Us All Away for the third time that week. Or, you might tell yourself it’s okay because you’re actually learning about hormones and sleepwalking (the research she puts into it is actually awe-inspiring)

@itsallavengers oh where to start? While mostly Steve/ Tony (honestly, we’ve never loved them as much as we do in her stories) she does have an amazing series dedicated to our favorite father-son- duo, aptly called Listen Up, Kid

@xmypandabear and her The Publicity Verse series never fail to surprise us and make us question everything we’ve ever known. Stories full of flawed characters that always end up teaching us new things about ourselves, truly inspirational.

@caraminha while clearly an all around genius whose unique writing style we adore in every single work, one story we always come back to has to be oh, come ON now that has two MCU dads talk, really talk, for the first time ever.

@jbsforever can’t not be on our list and while the stories are usually a lot angstier we’ll leave you with Mission Christmas for now ‘cause dis the season and it doesn’t matter anyway, whatever she writes will find your heart and make it feel all the feelings anyway.

yesyeshyes ‘s story What They Saw is a fantastic take on how other characters in the MCU view irondad and it is magnificent to read whenever you just need some wholesome family love.

@parkrstark / @parkrstarkwrites because there’s no way you’re listing irondad writers and she’s not on there. This woman knows how to work the whump and the curls and the cuddles and there’s honestly not much she can’t write (even cavity inducing fluff, we’ve seen it!). There’s no way we can mention every wonderful thing here but her Asexual!Peter series is one of the best things out there.

Nickygp knows exactly how to hold your heart, keep it safe and warm, only to then break it with one swift motion, brought to you by Because I said so: Adventures in Parenting (with commentary by Peter Parker)

@iron–spider and the rattle universe really is one of our all time favorite series set after infinity war and this writer really goes all out in making you go stir crazy over their stories because you cannot get enough.

@ironwebbs is another genius in breaking hearts and while hindsight might be her most well known piece of whump, literally every little thing she does is terrific like Then I will carry you

@edibna will take you from tutorials on hugs to conspiracy theories over to the wonderful We’re gonna have to do this together series. She hits all the right tropes and follows our favorite duo to exceptional places!

StarryKnight09 has gone all out in creating the wonderful Out of darkness series that centers around the makeshift-family’s struggles and achievements and we might have reread it so many times we may have lost count.

@camelot-queen knows how to make her writing squeeze your heart. Her stories Who Saves The Hero and i’m the satellite (and you’re the sky) are some all time favourites and  Goner gives us the chills, no matter how high the temperature.

@emma–anacortes has a gift with how skillfully she strings words together to form heartbreaking pieces of art. Especially her story Accepting the Tides makes you go through a wild rollercoaster of emotions. Tension buliding, plot twists and wonderful insight to the characters really make this one a joy to read.

Lady of Lorule holds a special place in our hearts because When the World Changes was one of the first stories we read in this fandom! Not just Irondad but Avengers family love and Peter right there in the middle of it all where he belongs.

grilledcheesing will make you laugh and cry and laugh again and you won’t see the next twist coming. Her 5+1 stories are insanely good and a personal favorite is 5 Times Peter Made Tony Laugh Out Loud. Since it’s december we also highly recommend Twelve Days Of Peter Parker.

@keep-a-bucket-full-of-stars will keep you wondering whether Peter is Tony’s biological son or not throughout all of her stories but in the end, does it matter? Fact is this is a girl who hands out the H/C with capital letters in her Peter Whump Dump series and when little Peter calls for his dad again you can’t really keep yourself from weeping for the little family.

130+ MCU fics I would/have read more than once

This is excessively long, so I’m posting it with a “read more” so that if it gets reblogged it doesn’t clog up dashboards.

(I did the math and this is literally about 90% father/son relationship (like actually father son not gross) Tony and Peter fics, so if that’s not your cup of tea I would suggest moving on?)

I’ve included titles and brief summaries of each fic in my own words. The fics are roughly categorized, either by “trope that I wasn’t aware I was obsessed with until now” or word count.

He feels like he’s sinking deeper and deeper, like someone’s ripped one of his lungs from his body. The bed dips behind him and Tony presses a firm hand to Peter’s chest. Peter collapses back against him, fear racing through his veins. He can’t breathe, he can’t breathe, he’s gonna fucking suffocate.
“Pete, just relax,” Tony says, close to his ear. “The air’s gonna come, it’s gonna come. Relax, breathe with me, c’mon. Feel the way I’m breathing?”
Peter tries to focus through the pain, can feel Tony’s chest against his back, rising and falling.
“Try and breathe like me,” Tony says, holding onto him. “I know it sucks, bud, but the air is gonna come—it’s gonna come, and Bruce is racing up here right now, just try and hold on.”
Peter tilts his head back onto Tony’s shoulder. Tony’s breathing normal. Breathe like Tony. Breathe like Tony. Breathe. Breathe. You’re Spiderman. Breathing is normal. Spiderman can do normal things and then some. C’mon, Spiderman, c’mon, c’mon.
“It’s okay,” Tony says, softly, keeping his breathing sure and steady. “Breathe with me, kid, we’ve got this. I’ve got you.”
Bruce nearly faceplants into the room in that moment, holding one of the oxygen masks and containers from the medbay. He rushes towards them.
“Okay, okay, Peter, here we go,” Bruce says, stretching out the strap and putting the mask over Peter’s nose and mouth. “Oxygen is flowing, sorry it took me so long—”
It takes a few drawn-out seconds of tight coarseness, but then the air breaks through and he’s able to suck in a gasping breath. He sucks in another one, closing his eyes as the weight slowly lifts off his chest.
Okay, he’s breathing. He’s breathing.
“There we go,” Tony says, patting Peter’s chest. “That’s it, see?”
Peter’s eyes pop back open. Despite the blurriness, he can still read the room. Bruce is standing over him, staring at him. And he’s literally collapsed against Tony. He’s in a room with two of the foremost minds of the world and he’s acting like a gigantic fucking embarrassment.

Avengers AU - If Tony was Peter’s biological father

Tony is super protective of his son. And Peter, inspired by his dad, becomes Spiderman anyway (his dad and his Uncle Rhodey figure him out in a second though).

Prompt: So ignoring infinity war, if things had worked out after civil war for the avengers, the rogues coming back but not knowing who spider-man is while still seeing and meeting the team as just an intern ( @marvel-at-the-galaxy )

Thank you so much for the prompt! I hope you enjoy.

“Just take a step back, please. He’s here on official Stark Industries business,” Dutifully, Happy struggled to field the incessant questions of bewildered ex-soldiers and assassins. Peter had shrunk uncharacteristically under their eyes, feeling naked without his suit. The Avengers were intimidating to say the least, and more than curious about Peter’s presence in their secure compound.

Sins of the Fathers Chapter 23

I hope all of my American readers had a lovely Thanksgiving last week!  ♥️

As always, a huge thank-you to @stjohn27 my awesome prereader and sounding board.  :)

Tony watched with thinly-veiled amusement as the Midtown High Academic Decathlon team boarded the Stark Industries jet, most of them oohing and aahing as they made their way down the narrow passageway to their seats.

“This is so awesome!” one of the students—a boy with dark blue glasses who’s name Tony couldn’t remember—said as he passed Tony on his way towards the back of the plane. “Thank you so much, Mr. Stark!”

“Sure thing, kid,” Tony replied, winking at Peter as he sat down next to Ned a couple rows back, with Sam Wilson already settled into the single seat across the aisle. Peter had told Tony that Liz had originally been less-than-thrilled with the prospect of flying down to D.C. because she’d been counting on having the hours during the school bus ride to conduct drills with the team. But once Liz realized that getting down to D.C. that much faster meant that she could conduct her drills in the comfort of their hotel instead of on the stuffy, uncomfortable school bus, she relented, and even now was leaning back in one of the plush leather seats near the front as the plane prepared for takeoff.

“Um, excuse me, M—, Mr. Stark, sir?” asked the decathlon coach, what was his name again? Harborton? “Um, I just wanted to thank you, sir, for your generosity in allowing the team to use your private plane, sir, and—”

“Yeah, yeah,” Tony said, dismissively waving his hand. “It’s not a problem, Mr. Harborton.”

“Harrington, sir,” said the coach, pushing his oversized glasses up the bridge of his nose. “And I just wanted to let you know, if there’s anything I can do at all to show my appreciation for—”

“That kid,” interrupted Tony, jerking his head in the direction of the dark-haired boy just entering the plane, his face twisted into the same scowl that Tony usually saw him wearing. “What’s his name?”

“Um…” Mr. Harrington mumbled. “That is Flash Thompson, sir. He’s one of the alternates on the team.”

“Alternates?” asked Tony.

“Yes, sir,” said Mr. Harrington. “The rules of the Academic Decathlon require students with a wide diversity of achievement, as they call it, and while Mr. Thompson falls into the Scholastic Category, we already have three other students in that category who qualified ahead of him. But we bring the alternates anyway just in case someone were to fall ill, or—”

“Excellent, yes, thank you,” Tony said as politely as he could. “I’d like to speak with Mr. Thompson, if you don’t mind.”
