what can I say? My thirst has been quenched. Gatorade, you’ve done it again
I think my favorite jokes are the ones that weren’t even all that funny until I was an adult, and now they’re fucking hilarious. I’m not even talking about the dirty jokes. I’m talking about in Finding Nemo where the sharks are having fucking AA for fish eating. Remember that shit? “I am a nice shark, not a mindless eating machine. If I am to change this image, I must first change myself.” Who ever thought of that? That was brilliant. Or what about that time in Shrek 2 where Shrek and Donkey infiltrate the castle pretending to be union workers? Little me didn’t give a shit about unions but big me is remembering Shrek going “It’s okay buddy, we’re from the union” and the desk worker secretively “we don’t even have dental,” and Shrek just shakes his head and looks at Donkey like he can’t believe this shit and goes, “They don’t even have dental.” What the fuck. I’m dying of laughter. Who comes up with this shit.
Dirty jokes have their place but I kind of wish more “adult” jokes relied on “Things only adults would understand due to lack of life experience,” instead of “Things that are inappropriate for kids,”
over the last few days.. i did my research because for years, the horrific events in Palestine has been considered controversial
i used to take a neutral stance but after learning more and seeing what western propaganda refuses to show.. I can't in my conscience be neutral about this
this has been going on for decades and it needs to stop. there is no justification to kill hundreds and thousands of Palestinians, including mostly children. children who have dreams, families who want a better life for themselves and were kicked out of their homes
and i urge you to inform and do your part. it's uncomfortable and upsetting, BUT what more IF IT WAS YOUR FAMILY? what if it was happening to you? it's not right and it needs to stop.

I feel this!!! Also love how you muted the color along the way, I think it makes it that much more impactful!
This is the thing!
If safety in your ideal society is entirely based on care by networks of affinity, and does not provide care for people who are not liked by anybody, then your society is actually even worse than the situation we are in now.
Pissing off people close to you or over-exhausting your social network or isolating yourself is often an inherent part of many mental health problems, addictions, etc. By the time people need care the most, they have often lost all their networks of affinity, and with some bad luck, any of us could find ourselves in that situation.
There has to be unconditional care available for the more unlikable of us, or there isn't really a safety net for any of us.
The thing that concerns me the most is that the people I see arguing for only informal/community support networks are often in communities that have a lot of interpersonal drama and poor conflict resolution skills. So it's like...this should be your primary support network, but also people get excommunicated on a regular basis? That's a terrible idea for everyone involved. People who have caused harm still deserve help, and people who have been harmed deserve the ability to set boundaries and remove people from their lives in ways that aren't sentencing that person to losing all their options for basic support.
Reblogging with tags from @kdhume
Also ALSO relying on informal/family/social networks leads to severe burnout of the caregivers whether the person needing care is likeable or not, because you know what? No matter how much you love someone it's a hard, demanding job if you're doing alone without having support yourself. And very few people will voluntarily do that.
So if there isn't an official impartial system in place, the job is going to be dumped entirely on one or maaybe two people, which is a crushing pressure even if you're doing it because "I love this person I want to help them," it's damaging to sometimes literally lethal when you're doing it because "he's my dad I am obligated to take care of him and no one else will help cause he's an evil abusive unlikable shithead."
Source: I personally know of at least 6 physical and mental breakdowns in my circle of acquaintance from the strain of being sole caregiver to elderly/sick relatives no one else wanted to deal with.
This also applies to people who aren’t acting out of trauma and are just assholes, btw. Some people are rude. Sometimes that rudeness comes from entitlement, not abuse. Sometimes people will be abusive, and still require care, and there should be a system to help them because we do not have the right to pass the death penalty on others, no matter how moral we think we are. Allowing them to suffer through illness, disability, poverty, etc is still a moral failing even if our personal dislike for them is 100% justified. And like the above comment, if caring for abusive, rude jackasses falls entirely on the people who suffer most from their treatment—or a professional who is being severely underpaid and exploited—that, too, is a moral failing.
‼️‼️‼️ The last one tho
the switch from ‘a girl worth fighting for’ to coming upon the decimated village in mulan is THE MOST kick-in-the-teeth mood change IN ALL OF CINEMA
That scene shift did more for our generation’s understanding of the horror of war in ten seconds than Game of Thrones did in eight seasons, and it did it without showing us a single dead body.
OKAY BUT HOLD ON THOUGH.
I’ve spent the past… five? Let’s say five - the past five years analyzing the structure of Disney Musicals as part of the process to write my own/a parody of them, and the thing is that all the modern ones have roughly the same number of songs - except Mulan.
Mulan has about half, because after AGWFF ends with that unresolved final phrase, there are no more songs until the end credits, which isn’t even sung in-universe.
Mulan wasn’t even the REALM of fucking around - when they arrive at that village, when the true horrors of war are brought into the story, not only does it interrupt THAT song, it breaks the entire fucking mold - the movie’s damn genre changes; it is no longer a musical.
And the Huns represent this from the start - Jafar and Hades are notable for not having proper villain songs, but Jafar does get his Prince Ali refrain and Hades and his plan get sung ABOUT by the muses. No scene with the Huns has any singing, they are mentioned once in song (the second line of Man, natch), and they of all Disney Villains are probably the most serious - no jokes, no witty asides, no sassy delivery of dry humor. The Huns are an invading army who plan to straight up kill a fuckton of people, including children, and AGWFF’s sudden end is the moment when our happy go lucky MUSICAL protagonists finally come in contact with them and their work directly - and it breaks them. Because shit like the Huns cannot exist in happy go lucky musical world. They just exist in our world. The real world. And you can’t sing your problems away here.
The end of A Girl Worth Fighting For is a brilliant use of metanarrative sensibilities to convey a message. It is utterly perfect.
Daaaamn, Tony. That’s fucking deep, my guy
I didn’t spend two years and thousands of dollars on a Master’s Degree in literature to NOT over analyze every text I engage with.
Racists prioritize their fragile egos. Any mention of their racist past/heritage sets them off. MAGA attracts all these racists because it vows to reprioritize whiteness.
You see it with CRT and BLM. Racists can't handle black humanity.
I got a laptop with Windows 11 for an IT course so I can get certified, and doing the first time device set-up for it made me want to commit unspeakable violence
Windows 11 should not exist, no one should use it for any reason, it puts ads in the file explorer and has made it so file searches are also web searches and this cannot be turned off except through registry editing. Whoever is responsible for those decisions should be killed, full stop.
Switch to linux, it's free and it's good.
u r absolutely right I have SO many complaints about Windows omg.
For anyone who'd like to follow along, I'm gonna share how to get around those things with group policies bc they're more user friendly and descriptive than registry editor imo :3 I'll also show how to get around needing a Microsoft account to get setup.
"OOBE" stands for Out Of Box Experience which is what that setup workflow is. But it also happens to be a folder with a little program in it that'll let you skip connecting to the internet; this makes it so you don't have to sign up with a Microsoft account and can just use a normal local one instead. And it already comes preinstalled! Here's how you get to it:
Now when you're brought back to the setup workflow, the page where you connect to the internet will have a new button on it that lets you say you don't have internet. Clicking that and proceeding through the rest of the setup lets you get around the Microsoft account thing.
You don't have to know much about them, these are just a bunch of specific settings for what your computer can or can't do that lets you decide how it works in different ways.
I'm gonna show you how to turn off the recommendations and internet stuff basically. For now bring up search and type gpedit, pick this
It'll open up to Local Group Policy Editor and we can get started :3c
In the side menu, go to User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Start Menu and Taskbar. Click on Settings to sort them with all the "Turn off" ones bumped to the top.
Here's what you should set:
Back in the side menu, go down to Windows Components > Cloud Content
In the side menu, this one's back at the top under Computer Configuration. You're gonna want to go to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Search
In the side menu go to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > News and interests.
When you don't use a Microsoft account they'll nudge you repeatedly to sign in so you can "get the most out of your experience" *gag*. The group policy for turning that off has a note that suggests it might not work with Windows 11 though (implicitly), so you can close the group policy editor window now and for this last one let's just open up the regular settings.
Go to System > Notifications > Additional settings, then uncheck all the boxes. And there ya go! (✿◠‿◠)ノ u are done.
Group policies are kind of a rabbit hole so while there is a lot more you could change or read into, for your own sanity's sake I would advise against it and say call it a day lol
This is all extremely good information, thank you very much for the addition!
I am sorry to tell you that unless something has changed since I switched to Linux last year, you don't have access to group policies on Windows Home edition, you need a Pro license

Friendly reminder that chronic and invisible illnesses are not magically cured by exercise, changing your diet, “clean living” or suddenly becoming vegetarian or vegan.
Believe it or not, but most disabled people cannot afford to overhaul their diet and swap to completely organic, vegan foods. Some disabled people are in too much pain or too exhausted to exercise. What may work for you may not work for others.
Chronic illnesses are lifelong. And in many cases, terminal. They cannot be cured, they can only be suppressed. So don’t berate and dictate to disabled and chronically ill people about how they should go about "curing" themselves.

Via @WritersGuildF at Twitter. (Not that this’ll help NBCUniversal, particularly when the LA City Department of Urban Forestry comes after them…)
This move, it seems likely, is damage control aimed at attempting to mitigate the situation before LA-based TV news crews show up.
(BTW: images in other threads here and on Twitter apparently confirm that Universal also did this illegal trimming three years ago, and the trees were in the process of trying to recover from it.)
ETA: this from @DanSigner at Twitter, showing images of the trees in previous years.
…For those interested in looking at the images more closely: this is the north end of Barham Blvd., the Toluca Lake-ish end, outside Universal’s Sheinberg building (Google Maps link here). If you use Street View to move up and down the road here, the tree images will change—check the right-hand bottom of the images to see the dates the photos were taken.
For those curious about why my dander’s up about this: leaving aside the casual spite of lopping trees at the wrong time of year so as to make picketers suffer (and let’s not forget the sudden construction / ripping-up of sidewalks elsewhere on the lot): the Universal / Universal City area was very much part of my personal “stomping grounds” when I was living and working in LA. Hanna-Barbera was just off the other end of Barham, north on Cahuenga, and I was up and down this road all the time, since friends and co-workers lived nearby. And trees there have enough trouble prospering without this bullshit.
The United Auto Workers are also negotiating new contracts with the big three US car manufacturers and have announced that they're prepared to strike if they can't get a fair deal.
