I wished it had some links to sources of confirmation to some of them and I'm not sure exactly how accurate it is, but it seems accurate enough at first glance. there was a character that started out as an antagonistic head guard / royal character with the primary means of pleasing their father figure, but said father figure is a maniacal / imperialistic psychopath madman who doesn’t love them and casts them out - then they realize how fucked in the head he made them so they join the protagonist’s found family with all of their trauma baggage in order to help everyone save the world and somewhere along the line they pick up a wild creature that inevitably becomes their close companion down the line:
