“Mikey I can’t believe you’re not going! It’s prom.” you emphasize for the hundredth time, sighing as your best friend doesn’t even glance at you, focusing instead on his bedroom’s tv. He’s playing Tekken 4, an old-school favorite of his.
“Exactly. It’s prom. No one does anything except get drunk and act stupid.” he rolls his eyes.
“It’s a milestone event! Michaaaaaaael come on! It’s not like you have any shortage of willing dates.” you beg. Which is true. Michael was widely acknowledged as one of the most attractive boys in school, girls flocked to him and his green eyes and wildly dyed hair and bad-boyish good looks.
He snorts, finally pausing the game. “You know I don’t like any of them, right?”
“Yes, yes, I know all of us peasant high school girls are much too good for you but COME ON. It won’t be prom if my best friend isn’t there.” you pout at him from your spot on the floor.
“Trust me, you’ll have a great time. You can come to my place to crash afterwards, I’ll order pizza or something.” he promises you.
“Besides, you’ll have pretty boy Drew keeping you company.” he adds, turning to his side to get a better look at you.
“Yeah. Guess I will.” you giggle, blushing.
Michael has an unfathomable expression on his face as he stares at you, and you ask “Something wrong?”
He looks uncomfortable but says slowly “Just… be careful with him, okay?”
