hey, i'm giving away my used binders! i have a L, three XL and a 3XL, all tank binders from gc2b. it would be nice if the person payed for the shipping costs, specially if we live far away (i live in europe). if anyone is interested pls message me!
Is it true that injections are more effective then gel? Which one do you recommend for someone who is going to start T?
Injections are more effective than gel because it allows for more direct absorption. I do not say I can recommend one over the other because it’s case by case basis. Injections are cheaper but they are more painful. So balance finances, pain tolerance, and other things first before deciding.
Hey, just lettin’ y'all know that gc2b is having a sale! You get 15% off your order when you use the code ‘SPELLBINDINGSALE’ at checkout.
Hey, cool!!
ATTENTION EVERYONE LOOKING TO RECEIVE FTM TOP SURGERY FROM DR HARTLEY IN BOULDER, CO
Myself, along with CSU LGBT Resource Center Director Aaric Guerriero can confirm that multiple students have been scammed by this doctor, who is changing the medical codes for the surgery post-op. This is resulting in $30,000 medical fees that should have been covered by insurances and were not agreed upon. He (Dr. Hartley) is taking advantage of the fight we have with the legal system to get covered by insurances and scamming trans individuals seeking care in the Colorado area. Please be safe and spread this information!!!
Guys seriously please spread this, we were almost affected by this. The front desk staff at his clinic in Boulder were so kind we had no idea. I saved up for so long to get this surgery I can’t imagine other guys loosing it all to this asshat
That’s Dr. Winfield Hartley of Boulder Plastic Surgery & IV Seasons Skin Care. Yelp link.
Hey! Do you have any tips for binding pain? Thank you! I love your blog btw, keep it up!
Thanks, dude! I’ll do my best with this.
I actually don’t bind frequently enough to deal with this personally, so I probably won’t have advice you can’t find anywhere else. Most of these will be safe binding tips to try and minimize how often you experience pain from binding. If someone else who knows more about this wants to add onto this, please do so!
- Take breaks from wearing your binder. If you’re at home, don’t wear it. If you’re sleeping, definitely don’t wear it. If you’re at the gym, please do NOT wear it. If you’re swimming, don’t wear just any binder. There are binders out there made for swimming (I know gc2b has some). An alternative is to wear a sports bra under one of those sun-protection shirts. My personal alternative is to not go swimming lol But anyway, as strong as your dysphoria may be, your health is important, and screwing yourself up with binding too much can make getting top surgery more of a challenge than it has to be – and depending on the extent of the damage binding has done, you may not be able to get top surgery. If you’re out in public and need to take it off, bring a sports bra to swap out your binder for. It won’t provide the same compression, I know, but it’ll help you feel less exposed as opposed to just taking your binder off and not wearing anything else under your shirt.
- Stretch and move your arms when wearing your binder. If you’re in classes at school wearing it, take any opportunities you can to get up and move around. When you take your binder off for the day, do the same stretches and force yourself to cough a few times. Take deep breaths. Get comfy.
- Take days off from wearing your binder. I’m not sure how many days apart, since I don’t even wear mine on a weekly basis, but taking 2 or 3 days a week to not wear it will probably help.
- Don’t hunch when you wear your binder. This might be hard to do, and some trans guys just hunch anyway to try and hide their chest even when not binding, but good posture will help you breathe easier.
That’s honestly all I got. There’s truly no safe way to bind that won’t eventually cause pain of some sort, especially if you’re binding almost daily. Even if your binder fits you properly, the strain it will put on your body will still happen. Binding puts a lot of strain on your ribs, and ribs aren’t made to handle pressure like that, they’re made to expand when you breathe. I’m sure binding isn’t a good option for guys with spinal issues either.
I don’t know how big your chest is and how flat you feel you need to look, but some guys wear tighter sports bras instead of binders. Those feel better than binders for sure. Some guys wear bulky hoodies, but it’s not always cool out enough to do that without sweating bullets. It’s miserable to do that when it’s hot out. I wish I had more helpful things to say here, but I don’t have much experience with binding at all, just because I really hate how it feels and can deal with being misgendered more than I can deal with the feeling of being strangled. But some guys aren’t like that, and I’m not saying that’s a better way to be, just that if you’re gonna bind, make sure you understand just how risky it can be and please be careful about it. Your health should come first, because if you do want top surgery later on, bad binding can ruin that for you.
Once again, if anyone else has advice for this anon, please add onto this! I hope this was even remotely helpful.
Yo Anon i dont really bind either but from what i know, chances are your binder is either too small or you wear it for too long. Its said that wearing a binder for 8 hours is safe, 12 hours maximum but that varies from a person to person so please keep that in mind.
If binding hurts your ribs you could look into binding with KT Tape http://brotherly-advice.tumblr.com/post/161063993943/kt-tape-binding . Bear in mind that this will probably only work for guys with smaller chests
while we’re at alternatives to binders, PLEASE dont sleep in a sports bra, wearing 2 at once is totally out of question and make sure its the right size for you. I know sports bras seem harmless but you gotta remember they still squeeze your ribs and can cause permanent damage if youre not careful.
As for what to do to actually lessen the pain, here’s a post thats probably worded better than what i’d write lol http://mycroftrh.tumblr.com/post/115350741333/binding-safety-for-trans-folk
PSA: Save Your Underwear
Alright so listen up girls and boys with bleeding nether regions:
Buy Always Infinity with Flexfoam. Buy nothing else. Buy Always Infinite with Flexfoam.
This sexy beast. There’s a bunch of versions. But so long as it says Infinity and Flexfoam, fucking GET IT.
So I’ve always been a fan of Always pads. Can’t stand tampons because of all the horror stories and in general, they’re uncomfortable. Always just seems to be the brand that’s always there so we always got it.
Every since Always released their Infinity brand, we’ve literally hated everything else. Even the regular versions of Always. Infinity is the way to go. It is the ONLY way to go.
Infinity is like the only way we can keep our damn bedsheets and clothes bloodless. The first night I got my period I woke up with my boxers just soaked. Completely soaked. Blood. Everywhere.
So I just pop into the bathroom and thus far we’ve only got regular Always pads. Put one on. It’s about as miserable as you’d expect. The pad shifts as you sit and move and when you change pads you’re probably changing underwear too because of the blood just seeping out the sides and getting everywhere.
But then we have Always Infinity. With the Flexfoam. You know that bullshit on the side of the box brands spew where they’re like THIS SUPER INGENIOUS INVENTION WITH A FANCY NAME IS GOING TO GIVE YOU PRISTINE CLEANLINESS AND ULTIMATE PROTECTION AND THATS WHY WE USE FLEXFOAM.
They’re not fucking kidding guys. This isn’t a fucking game. These pads are relentless. No blood gets by. You’d probably have to unhygenically use one pad 24 hours+ before the blood will actually leave the pad and get anywhere.
In addition to that? It’s invisible.
Okay look, guys. I’m trans. I’m a transman. I’m a fucking dude. I don’t suffer from dysphoria but nothing annoys and irritates me more than knowing I am wearing a fucking diaper because I can feel it everytime I move and stand and sit down.
Not these bitches. No fucking way. They’re thin, they’re super big and they’re completely inmovable. I don’t have to keep grabbing at my crotch or my ass to readjust the pad lest blood be splashing everywhere. It stays in one fucking place and it doesn’t leave until you rip it out yourself.
THIS SHIT IS SO NICE. GO GET YOURSELF SOME. PLEASE SAVE YOURSELVES. SAVE YOUR UNDERWEAR. SAVE YOUR QUILTS. SAVE YOUR BED. HERE’S SOME COUPONS.
Rebloggin’ by request of the moum
I can say the same. These things are the shit and its beautiful. Whoever figured it out how to make them I’d very much like to thank, and I’m pretty sure my underwear would too.
A long time ago I read that Always pads make ur hingy itch but this person seems to really like them so I guess that problem was fixed. The thing i read was at least a year ago, probably more.
HOLY SHIT YOU GUYS when I was in Toronto (one night in a nice hotel downtown and of course I got my fucking period) and the mini mart had these on sale so I took the risk and THESE ARE INCREDIBLE
THIN! No leaks! No blood down the ass crack! FLEX FOAM FOR LIFE!!
Always Infinity and Always Radiant are the same exact product. Both have the flex foam but Radiant just has a fragrance to it + more colorful packaging. When one is on sale, the other one generally isn’t so buy the one on sale! Also, once you finish, the boxes can have coupons on the inside so use those on your next purchase!
You had me at no blood down the ass crack.
I can confirm how lovely these are and i refuse to use anything else over these
These are incredible. I HATE pads. Hate them. I only started using them because endo made it impossible for me to use tampons. My periods were miserable when I had to switch.
Then I found flexfoam. My periods have completely changed. I can barely tell it’s there. No more diaper feeling. No more blood escaping. And seriously, my periods get really heavy at points and the foam absorbs it all.
THESE SHITS ARE MY FUCKING SAVIOR. YOU FORGET YOU’RE EVEN ON YOUR PERIOD, IT’S AMAZING LISTEN TO THIS POST.
👆🏾Literally Will Forget You’re r On Your Period They Are Super Comfy And Shit
I so second this for all the people who have periods
I use these all the time now. Sometimes I forget it’s on and panic a bit and then I have to go verify that there is, in fact, a pad there. No really, they’re that good.
Welp I know what I’m buying to try out the next time I’m at the store…
Okay no yeah Always Infinity is the shit and I will never buy anything else but PSA:
Infinity and Radiant are not wholly interchangeable, the fragrance in the Radiant pads can make your bleedy bits SUPER FUCKING IRRITATED. Not everybody, necessarily, but I’ve run into that problem, so if your downstairs is sensitive, be careful with the Radiant pads.
In general, it’s probably going to be your best bet to just skip scented pads or pantyliners, or tampons (seriously, why do you need a scented tampon?). If you change it regularly (as you should), it’s not going to smell bad. Also, why run the risk of being allergic to fragrance in your feminine products in the first place. Just by unscented and save yourself the potential suffering if you do turn out to be allergic.
How many different forms of T are there? I'm going on it soon (Yay!🎉) but don't know all the possibilities
I just know there’s injections and gel, but injections are more effective.
There are 2 types of injectable testosterone treatments: intramuscular and subcutaneous injections. I hear the intramuscular injections are more widely prescribed and used. Then there’re patches and gels. I have heard patches and gels work slower than injectable T, but I wouldn’t know personally. Some guys say it’s about the same. It probably depends on how well your body reacts to it, and everyone’s different. There are also subcutaneous pellets, that allow for less spikes in hormone levels like injections can be prone to causing, BUT those are super expensive. That’s probably why I haven’t heard of anyone using them. If you ever come across info about testosterone pills you take orally, I recommend not doing so because the common info I have heard about that is an increased risk in liver damage. That and they tend not to be as effective as all these other methods. Doctors will usually prescribe you with injections, but depending on your tolerance with needles, you could go for a patch or gel.
Injections are more effective because it gives greater absorption than needles or gels. The pellets should be as effective but they aren’t nearly as cost effective.
Binding is not safe. Long term, it is detrimental to your physical health. While the social and psychological benefits might outweigh the physical risks for many people, the choice to bind should be made with the understanding that the risks cannot be eliminated even with great care to ensure good fit and avoid overuse. Tightly compressing a large part of your body with many complex skeletal and muscular connections on a regular basis damages your body over time. Take off-days, wear the proper size from reputable makers, don’t sleep or exercise in them, and take them off as often as possible - all good advice that you absolutely must follow to be as safe as possible, but it’s impossible to guarantee that there will not be complications.
People tend to downplay the physical risks of binding because the payoff for self-confidence can be so profound. But seriously - even responsible binding is likely to cause complications ranging from sharp pains, nerve damage, dramatically decreased lung capacity, fluid buildup, skin issues, and back injury. Do not take it lightly just because it’s a piece of clothing that can be removed and does not need a doctor’s approval or informed consent to use.
If you must bind, be gentle with yourself. On your off-time, or if you choose not to bind at all, puffer vests are your new best friends. Seriously. Get your Marty McFly on. Not your style? Your loss, you unfashionable fool, but scarves, loose-fitting button-downs, and bomber jackets can help as well.
Safety PSA for people who bind with sports bras
Yo! This is a very important PSA for trans folks who bind their chests. Even if that doesn’t pertain to you, I’d really appreciate if you’d reblog it or repost it or anything to spread it, because it’s a really important safety thing that is basically unknown amongst trans folks.
A lot of trans folks don’t have binders available, because of cost or parents or whatever. A common solution to this is sports bras - doubled or way way too small or both. Some people use sports bras even though they do have binders. If you use them for binding for any reason, this PSA is for you. (Note: this also includes crossplayers, crossdressers, etcetera. I’m using trans folks as a shorthand because that’s what I’m used to, but this includes all of y’all as well.)
I'm old enough to donate plasma in my city, but there's a physical required. I chickened out the other day just because of that. I was curious if you've ever done it before and if you know if I would have to take my top off? They're going to assume the wrong gender for me based on stuff I can't control so it's not that but I really really can't handle people looking at my chest. Any ideas?
What happens is they do a mini-physical and not a full blown physical usually. They want the process to be relatively quick and comfortable so they only get the information they absolutely need like medical history (if you are on HRT, do mention that please), blood pressure, pulse, temperature, hemoglobin levels, where you have travelled recently, stuff like that. They may give you tests for blood-borne illnesses like HIV and hepatitis but the extend of the undressing done would be just pulling up a sleeve.
Granted, if they give you a full physical for some reason, tell them you are uncomfortable with taking your top off and having them look at your chest. Since this is a plasma donation, I’m sure they wouldn’t mind.
tl;dr
Pretty sure you won’t need to take your top off.
Good luck, friend and good on you for donating!
Quick question, which I've been asking to a few FTM blogs because I want a variety of opinions, but... a physical exam is required for me in the process of starting T, but I have abuse in my past; am I allowed to refuse the part of the exam that goes below the belt? Or will they refuse to give me testosterone if I try and avoid that part? I mean, I'll have no ochoice if I want to go on T, but I know I'll have a nervous breakdown if I have to go through the whole exam, so I dunno what to do.
Explain to your doctor what issue you have and you can work with them from there. I cannot tell you what your doctor would say as it would be a case-to-case basis but often the doctor will be understanding of your situation. Legally, you are allowed to refuse that part of the exam but explaining why you refuse it to your doctor may make them alter how they do the exam. i.e. they may not do that part or they may ask more extensive questions to get the information they need.
Again, I cannot say what exactly will happen but my recommendation is to tell your doctor why you do not want that part of the exam and discuss alternatives.
Best of luck, friend.
Should I tell my doctor I'm trans?
Yes. That is potentially very important medically. You should never withhold information from your doctor. Your doctor is legally obligated to keep all information strictly confidential or otherwise face severe legal issues.

since it’s a scary time to be trans: refuge restrooms is an app which maps gender-neutral/single-stall restrooms. it’s community-mapped, so it’s possible you might be the first person to log the restroom locations, but hopefully it’ll help some people.
please reblog this post if you’ve got trans followers. stay safe.
For my non-trans followers: please consider getting the app just so you can add neutral restrooms to the map when you run across them. Simple way to help.
Coming soon: MyTransHealth, an app connecting trans people to knowledgeable, reliable and affordable healthcare providers.
19% of trans people have been refused healthcare because of their gender identity. 50% of trans people have had to teach their doctors about trans-related medical care. 28% of trans people have been harassed in medical settings. This app is desperately needed. Follow them at mytranshealth.
Ace Bandage Warning for transmen
Please don’t bind using ace bandages! Stay safe everyone
Hi! Re your post about phalloplasty myths (not sure how old this is, sorry) it was mentioned that phalloplasties don't have erotic sensation. This is untrue; nerve hookups from the clitoris are done at stage 2 and itspossible to have erotic sensation
I don’t recall which post you’re referring to so it must be an old post. Phalloplasties can have erotic sensation but it will not be the same as the sensation produced from clitoral stimulation. The nerves take a lot of time to heal and produce meaningful sensation. However, yes, you can still have erotic sensation from a phalloplasty due to this.
Hispanic/Spanish Speaking Transgender Resources
Hello everyone! I wanted to share some transgender resources for my Hispanic and Spanish speaking folk out there. As a Chincanx individual, coming out and explaining things to my Spanish speaking family members such as my mom has been difficult as most resources are limited to English speakers only. Here are a few resources that I have found useful! Warning: These resources illustrate a single stereotypical trans narrative and focus on binary genders only.
Resources centered on children:
Resources centered on teenagers and adults:
- Transgender Guide for Families (FAQ/Terminology)
- General LGBT+ Guide
- Article on Transgender Activist (Trans-Masculine Awareness)
- Video: Documentary on Transgender Individuals in Mexico City
- Terminology/ Trans 101
- FAQ
- Packing and STP Device Information
- Gender Reassignment Surgery Information
- FTM Surgeries (Tw: Gore)
- Transgender Terms
Please reblog! I will try to keep this list updated. If anyone has any questions, comments, or concerns feel free to reach out to me! I’ll try to provide as much help as possible. The Spanish text version of this post can be found here.
So I found a site that does a subscription box for your period- it sends you basics like hygiene products, pain medication as well as snacks and pampering stuff to make you feel good,
but the best thing is they have a specialty boxes, like vegan or kosher only snacks but also
they specifically offer boxes for menstruating guys and nb folks.
which is pretty darn cool.
it’s called bonjourjolie and I think it’s 1000% awesome tbh
i think this is the best thing omf
@mygenderadventures, don’t know if this is content you’d put on your blog, but I think this is fantastic.
I don’t tend to post non-art stuff but thanks for the shout-out anyway!!! I’m sure this will be of interest to a few people here :)
All of their specialty boxes.
Their website says it’s $16 a month plus shipping which varies.
Overall it looks pretty great! If I still used tampons I would love to use this tbh it looks so nice and convenient and also a really cute gift
They have liners, pads, and menstrual cups as well as tampons.
Also you can order just one box if you want to try it out.
