okay I’m just gonna spew some thoughts here. There has been an overwhelming amount of “backlash” from conservatives calling the sandman “too gay”. Usually when stuff like this happens, creators would back down or whatever, but I think part of the reason Neil deals with it so well is because he’s very active in engaging with fans, and since he answers asks on Tumblr every single day, he also receives hundreds and thousands of messages thanking him for his work and the representation he has done through his creations. I think that one single genuine heartfelt message thanking you for saving their life or inspiring them to find their identity, is worth so much more than a hundred hateful reviews.

I’m also curious like, have these people who complain about the show’s  “wokeness” or how it’s “pandering to the queer community” ever considered the fact that the cast and crew behind the series could be queer themselves, and are only trying to represent their communities on screen? It’s funny how for once they are on the other side of what is considered the norm it’s like they’re suddenly begging for representation as if they aren’t in every other media.
