TIL the reason this inconsistently shows up in notes for the same post is bc if you look at the notes from a reblog, replies from ppl blocked by the reblogger don’t show up but if you look at it from someone else like OP they do show up

huh, i wonder why this person has a problem with being blocked. im sure they have really normal ideas about bringing pets inside restaurants

one of today's unluckiest 10K

So in finally getting into LoZ, I've been trying to play all the games in chronological story order. But I got stuck on the last Imprisoned fight in SS and decided to take a break and skip to the next game (until one of my siblings who are better at videogames than me can help me) So one of the last cutscenes I watched in SS is Zelda crying that it's all her fault for dragging Link into this life of constant danger and apologizing for not being able to protect him. And then the first scene in Minish is a tiny 9yo Zelda winning a festival game and immediately insisting that her reward has to be a new shield for Link. And then I also watched all the AoC cutscenes, and my siblings have all been rambling about BotW & TotK (and most of the internet fandom seems to be for those games anyway so it's hard to avoid) and in those her powers manifest in an attempt to protect Link. And now I'm super emotional because for all that most of the entire series is quest after quest after quest to save Zelda, in every lifetime she is trying just as hard and fighting just as desperately to protect Link too, because no matter how young/old they are and no matter if it's still purely platonic or had the chance to bloom into romance, she loves him with her entire soul (and still possibly harbors guilt at not being able to save him the first time around when she had her full goddess powers...)

I want the writer’s strike to last until they get everything they demand and more. I want the SAG strike to last until AI is entirely forbidden across the board in the entire industry. I want CGI artists to unionize and strike. I want animators to strike. I want composers and directors and designers and VAs and techies and producers and stage hands and game devs and programmers and recording artists to strike.

I want every aspect of the entertainment industry brought to a grinding halt for months or even years to take it from the corps and put it back in the hands of the artists.

writer's strike is amazing actually go girl get that fucking marvel show UNMADE get that fucking gay pirate show CANCELLED get these chronically online fandom bitches' obsessions on HOLD until the corporations learn to pay you your mf money that you deserve

Okay the human fruit-identifying schema that makes us want to shove brightly colored and/or shiny objects into our mouth is hilarious and all but now I want to say consider the possibility of aliens with other dietary needs who don’t get this reflex but not because they don’t have it but because they have this impulse towards different things, so like, two bored coworkers walking around together, one of them points towards a shiny wall lamp,

“is this fruit gummy?”

“-nah, I mean. maybe? maybe if it was clean? it’s not doing it for me.”

“alright I think I’m getting it now.”

the human nods, and points at a bundle of wires, “that’s forbidden lunch though right”

the alien, gravely, “there’s enough voltage in those wires to absolutely kill me and I want to lick it so badly.”

nods. “Forbidden lunch.”

A third coworker who is neither of the first two’s species, “I hate both of you and I hate that you have to have this conversation in the generator.”

pause. “Cranky you can’t eat the uranium rods aren’t you”

“DON’T PULL ME INTO THIS. I PHOTOSYNTHESIZE, LIKE A REASONABLE PERSON.”

TIL a family in Georgia claimed to have passed down a song in an unknown language from the time of their enslavement; scientists identified the song as a genuine West African funeral song in the Mende language that had survived multiple transmissions from mother to daughter over multiple centuries (x)

In 1997 Amelia’s daughter, Mary Moran, and other members of the Moran family were invited to Sierra Leone, West Africa, where they were welcomed in Freetown by Sierra Leone’s President and then flown by helicopter to the country’s interior.  There, in the small village of Senehun Ngola, Mary and Bendu Jabati met and sang this song together for the first time.  Years earlier, Bendu’s grandmother had told her that this song, which had been passed down in her village from mother to daughter for centuries, would one day reunite her to long-lost relatives.

In addition to finding out where in Africa her ancestors were abducted into slavery, Mary Moran discovered the meaning of the Mende song: a processional hymn for the final farewell to the spirit, it was sung in Senehun Ngola by women as they prepared the body of a loved one for burial.

(The OP's link leads to a site with a recording of the song sung by both Mary Moran and her mother, Amelia)

some time ago i introduced the phrase "food pact" to my friends as a shorthand for "i'll go make and eat food if you also make and eat food" and ever since then ive just started incorporating more pacts into my life. stay hydrated pact. stretch break pact. stop doomscrolling and go to bed pact. we need to bring this back in vogue more people should be making pacts imo

the best part of this is when you ask "who wants to do a shower pact" and you get a half dozen friends all rolling up saying "the pact is sealed". faustian behavior
