Supreme King Servant Dragon Dark Rebellion Dark / RANK 4 / Dragon / Xyz - Effect: 2 Level 4 DARK monsters If an Xyz Monster is Xyz Summoned to your opponent’s field while you control “Supreme King Dragon Zarc”, you can Xyz Summon this card. Monsters your opponent controls cannot target Xyz Monsters for attacks, except this one. If this card battles an opponent’s monster, during damage calculation (in either player’s turn): You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card, then target the opponent’s battling monster; its ATK becomes 0, and if it does, this card gains that lost ATK. These changes last until the End Phase. Top 10 Movies of 2016

well here it is, on time this year. my top 10 list that likely nobody will care about but I have to post it here anyway, for science.

this year saw a lot of great movies. more than any year that I can really remember. it started off incredibly strong, to the point where I thought I might end up with 20 this year, but then sorta tapered out near the end.. leaving me with just a few over 10 that I had to strategically narrow down. there will be a pretty lengthy list of honorable mentions however, because I don’t want to forget these movies even if they weren’t top 10 material.

I decided to add fancy pictures and a small blurb for each movie this year to make it extra official.

anyway, without further ado:

10. Tie: Finding Dory/The Lobster

Let the difficulty of compiling this list commence. I JSUT COULDN’T LEAVE EITHER OF THESE OFF SO they’re tied for #10. I make the rules, not you, okay.

There were so many amazing movies this year that they could all easily hold a top 3 position on a ranked list from any other year. This year was so incredible that even a movie as good as The Lobster got pushed all the way to 10th place. So prepare yourselves.

I was a bit apprehensive about seeing Finding Dory because the trailer really turned me off. I almost missed it in the theater, but I’m really glad I didn’t. This charming little sequel took me by surprise. I laughed, I cried, I smiled and went “awww” a whole lot. Definitely deserving of a place on my list this year, even if it’s only half a spot.

9. The Nice Guys

Here begins the list of things I definitely want to re-watch very soon. The Nice Guys - clever, funny, refreshing crime comedy, Ryan Gosling. what more do you need

8. Swiss Army Man

Woah now, you say. Emily, why is this all the way at #8??? well maybe because I couldn’t connect to this as well as, say, a white male person would. what I took away from it was that it was mainly focused on male gender issues in society. but it’s more likely because THERE ARE TOO MANY GREAT MOVIES THIS YEAR SHIT

Swiss Army Man is pretty phenomenal though. in a lot of ways. it’s 100% worth your time to go see it, regardless of your gender.

7. The Conjuring 2

Probably the scariest movie of the year. This movie had some great moments visually. I can’t quite recall all of them at this point but I remember this movie making a pretty big impact on me when I saw it.

6. Ouija: Origin of Evil

This movie has mind-bendingly-good cinematography. For me, someone who spends a lot of time behind cameras, watching this was like experiencing multiple orgasms while simultaneously winning the lottery and also probably what I imagine it’s like to receive a high five directly from Barack Obama himself. Is it possibly to have every shot in your movie be the best shot in the movie? According to Ouija: Origin of Evil, the answer is YES.

5. Green Room

Holy shit. A punk movie in 2016??? And it’s not full of hipstery modern punk cliches? That’s crazy talk. Impossible, they said.

but then there was Green Room

hardcore punk band faces off against neo-nazi skinhead Patrick Stewart as “Nazi Punks Fuck Off” blares in the background. need I say more?

4. The Greasy Strangler

Bet you hadn’t heard of this one. Absurdist, gross-out comedy at it’s most extreme (finest). There isn’t a dick in this movie that you don’t see. But dear god if this isn’t the most I’ve laughed at a comedy in such a long time. This movie is perfect in every way, but definitely not for the faint of heart.

3. Arrival

You bet your sweet bippy Arrival is in my top 3. This movie is more beautiful than I could ever describe. It is so poetic and refreshing, in a world that is now over saturated with movies that are trying to out-edgy each other. Please watch it.

2. The Witch

This is where 2016 really took off with a bang. The movie that had me completely satisfied and not requiring anything else good to even get released this year. The little indie flick that could, The Witch. If you missed this one, you truly missed out. It’s such a masterful take on the witch horror genre. There’s so much I could praise about this movie, more than I could really fit into this dinky little list. You just have to experience it for yourself.

1. The Neon Demon

Imagine if there was a movie that perfected everything you strived for. A movie that was the ultimate definition of your aesthetic. The movie you didn’t even know you needed but after seeing it you just wanted more and more of it. For me, that movie is The Neon Demon.

I can’t praise this damn thing enough. From start to finish, it oozes pure art. I shouldn’t have expected anything less from Nicolas Winding Refn, but he really outdid himself with this one. It’s truly everything I could have asked for all packed into one movie. I’m really sad that I didn’t get to see it a second time in theaters. It is pure candy, not just for the eyes, but for the soul.

Well, there you have it. My top 10 list of the best movies this year. I’m debating on whether or not to do a worst 10 list. I saw a lot of bad shit this year too. But even after all the bullshit I sat through, the good still took the cake. That’s better than any year has performed in recent memory.
