my body, tearfully: when sleep???

me: my dude we just woke up!! It’s time for wakefulness and doing things and Productivity

my body, weeping: but???? when sleep?????

me: okay, finally now is sleep

my body: no. wrong.

the genius of megamind (beyond the obvious genius ofc) is that it's superman parody actually presents a genuinely unsettling depiction of the "hero" that I like wayyy better than "what if superman was evil" or "what if superman was wrong"... it's "what if superman didn't care"

I wouldn’t say he “didn’t care” more like he was burnt out

He played the role since he was a child and now is in his what 30s? 40s?

He knew there was never any real danger with Megamind in charge so decided to pursue something that’s a passion and doesn’t come naturally easy to him

but it was still a dick move

The thing that makes Megamind so brilliant is that practically none of the individual parts of the narrative are original.

There have been plenty of stories about Heroes wanting to quit.

There have been plenty of stories where villains turned a new leaf and became heroes.

Hell, "we created this villain while trying to create a hero" isn't even that original.

But "hero quits" stories are always told from the point of view of the hero. And "Villain becomes hero" is generally "something happened and they had to make a choice".

But "Villain gets everything he wants and discovers he never wanted it in the first place?" "Hero realizes that all he's doing is feeding into a cycle that neither he or the villain chose?"

Brilliant.

I think my favorite bit i do with customers is when white women are like ‘i dont know what to getttttt’ and i hit them with the ‘you should be bad~ 😈’

Avatar

Saying ‘you should be bad!!’ In like Gay Voice to a white woman at starbucks has like the same psychological impact as going like ‘who’s a good boy?’ To a dog. It makes them so excited in a really endearing way.

reblog to make it die faster

We need to go back a few years to whatever era of depressing off-the-shits indie horror this was and I am not even remotely joking

HOW COULD I FORGET ABOUT “DISCOVER MY BODY”

Tbf it’s relatively more recent than the other 3 games so hopefully there will be more games like this soon

I’m sorry that I turned this post into a thread of weird horror that I actually like but if you’re a fan of sci-fi short stories please I beg of you read Computer Friendly by Eileen Gunn (there’s a link to the story somewhere on this page) and Patient Zero by Tananarive Due they both live in my head rent free

my favs have to be Rediger, a sound novel (similar to a visual novel without the visuals) which is about a 10 minute play

And of course, obligatory Kitty Horrorshow!! Overall interesting experiences with good good writing

Also if you want Playstation styled bloody horror check out @puppetcombo and the work they create/produce. :3

If I could swoop in with some visual novels? Scarlet Hollow (steam link) is amazing. Rich, layered characters, creepy Appalachian folklore, some very dark themes and stunning art.

There’s an upcoming game by the same artist called Slay the Princess that looks great too. I also really enjoyed Grotesque Beauty (steam link) and Cooking Companions (steam link).

And I also recommend Meeting In The Flesh and Parasite In Love for some really unique horror takes on a dating sim. (I mean REALLY, genuinely unique, I promise they aren’t a couple of Doki Doki Literature Club knockoffs.)

I have two horror games on Steam (+One bonus one on Itch) that I’d like to shill here!

Lily’s Well is a short DOS styled puzzle horror game about finding rope to reach the bottom of a well. What happens next might surprise you! [Itch.io] [Steam]

Lost Cartridge - Cold Read is a PC-98 styled horror game where you play as a stressed out guy trying to escape a library during the middle of a snow storm. Various goals can be completed in any order with multiple endings being also on the table. [Itch.io] [Steam]

I Cannot Drown is a Yume Nikki fangame that takes a more horrific and grotesque approach to the setting and gameplay. [Itch.io]

intersex animals r not nonbinary animals they r intersex animals hhow many times do wwe have to do rhis

i dont know how to explain to you that referring to any living creature wwirh mixed sex characteristics as “true nonbinary” is harmful to bboth intersex ppl and nonbinary ppl

people say "gender is a social construct" and then claim intersex animals are obviously nonbinary. you just put "gender is what's in your pants" in a new font.

i hope everyone knows that the last wga strike was ~100 days and it's a pretty common phenomenon for strike support to tank after a month or two when it feels like it's dragging on and some writers and talk show hosts are crossing picket lines and trying to "return" to "normal" because of people's livelihoods etc when they're really just scabs. sure hope that we keep that in mind and are prepared for the long haul and aren't just in it while it's convenient for us <3

WGA on strike….DGA and SAG rumored to follow soon….let’s fucking GOOOOOOOOOO

speaking as an under-the-line crew member affected by this, it’s great to publicize and speak out. send messages of solidarity. threaten to cancel your subscriptions.

but also know that this will lead to significant working-class strain in major cities, namely new york, los angeles, atlanta, chicago, and albuquerque. it’s unavoidable, and it’s imperfect — the people fucked over the most will be the most financially vulnerable, such as PAs, other assists and day-rate workers.

if you live in one of the cities mentioned, this is a great time to get familiar with, and volunteer for, your local mutual aid organizations. you can also reach out to your local teamsters or IATSE chapter — these two have a reciprocal mutual aid pact, and can likely funnel you to relevant resources. monetary assistance is great, but if you can’t donate food banks or even picketing supports will need hands and time as well.

stay safe, stay well, and hold the line!!

For anyone else who, like me, was like "DGA and SAG???" -- i looked them up, and they're the Directors Guild of America and the Screen Actors Guild. So yeah, them going on strike at the same time as the Writers Guild? Would be amazing from a pressure perspective.

Currently the studios can try and limp along without writers, can try and hire new desperate people who aren't in the union, etc, and can try to keep making (poor quality) movies/shows without the bulk of their writing teams (and the results will be apalling, but theyll still try, bc money). But if the directors and actors go on strike too? Then the studios are even more hamstrung than they currently are. Good luck making any content when your writers, directors, and actors are all on strike.

i love how intense some of the words associating with gardening are. like they make it straight up sound like going to war or something.

"deadheading" are you fucking kidding me that literally sounds like a dark souls attack strategy

In response to Slate's article on the possibility having non-heteromative team in figure skating (particularly, ice dance and pairs), Oniceperspective shared a glimpse of Gabriella Papadakis (FRA) and Madison Hubbell (USA) working on their same-sex program. You can see how they switch the leading figure between them.

You can see them trying out lifts in this video.

The rest is on Instagram here:

Oh no, that's awful! Wolf attacks are so rare, I wonder what happened?

Oh...

In the USA I thought we were teeming with idiots, but "a predator animal killing a prey animal is unacceptable violence" is such an alien attitude to me.

this person posts mostly about how they hate trans people so it's not surprising that they're a little out of touch with reality but uhhhhhhhhh most of the planet would like a word with you

If you go to live in a small town in the mountains, you should be seeing animals...

if this happened in kentucky some people would certainly freak out but even more would be ooohing and aaaahing over this INCREDIBLE OPPORTUNITY to witness a rare wild animal, demanding they be protected, putting trail cams in their yards in hopes of spotting wolves, creating a facebook page for the wolves,

Several years ago a cougar was killed by a fish and wildlife officer after it wandered into someone's yard and people were PISSED. supposedly they think the cougar was brought here and released (??? idk, that seems weird to me as well) but general public opinion was "how dare you shoot this rare wild animal and then claim it was a released captive to cover your ass"

We get bears here sometimes too and everybody is so hype about seeing a bear
