Hey, do you like the consept of cyberpunk futures and the vibes of analog technology?
Well I've got a series for you. Max headroom 20 minutes into the future (the show) is conseptually very similar to cyberpunk. I'd go as far as to call it early cyberpunk. But it was made before a lot of the technology we have was developed so the dream of a cyberpunk future is set in a lot of analog imagery.
Not all of its aged well, but what has is fantastic and I highly recommend it.
Max Headroom is absolutely Cyberpunk! It was heavily influenced by the works of William Gibson, Sterling, Cheap Truth and Blade Runner. The people writing the show intentionally made it a Cyberpunk show after being inspired by early Cyberpunk media.
It’s sad to see people too young to know the roots of a thing going back and making statements like this.
I’ve already heard people talking about Ramones and Sex Pistols in a similar light. No one seemed to have told them they were the start of Punk Rock, so they wrote lengthy, ill-advised, articles trying to place them as some sort of pre-punk that, instead of having started the genre, existed just before it in some proto-state no one knew of.
Just because nothing has made it big since the 80s doesn’t mean we have to re-define things from that time period.
