Got a new secondary blog to cover all my writing stuff! I’m going to use @byoldervine to share facts and rambles about a series I’m writing called the Byoldervine series, which includes the story I’ve been sharing here that’s gained a small bit of interest, which I’m currently calling The Heir and the Cure. Feel free to ask any questions you’d like about my writing, I absolutely love sharing!
So what officially turned Chloe to Hawk Moths side and leads to her being banned from being a Miraculous was one of Marinettes fuck ups out of jealousy. Shame they pretty much ignore how its Marinettes fault so they can officially start the extensive Chloe Bashing.
You could have made this work by showing the betrayal as something both Marinette and Chloe have faults in, but where Marinette learns her lesson and tries to improve herself, Chloe chooses to not take fault in any of that.
To be fair, MariBug choosing Ryuko over Queen Bee was an unrelated fuck-up and she couldn’t have possibly predicted that it would lead to Chloé willingly aiding a terrorist. Choosing Ryuko out of jealousy despite her not being the ideal choice for the mission is a bad move, yes, but Chloé’s problem is that she personally wasn’t chosen at all, regardless of Ladybug’s reasoning
What if Ladybug had chosen Ryuko or a different holder for a good reason? What if a different power was the ideal one? What if - considering Chloé has been told she’s benched for her own protection several times and has even had Ladybug’s fears proven not only valid but straight-up correct after Miraculer - Ladybug gave someone else the Bee Miraculous?
And if these decisions were made with these completely fair, valid and objectively good reasonings, would we still blame Ladybug for Chloé’s betrayal?
Ladybug seemed to have chosen the Bee as the ideal choice for the mission, but then took the Dragon instead with the intention of keeping Kagami away from Adrien. Was this wrong? Yes, she let her personal feelings get in the way of her making the best call for her team. Does she deserve some kind of karma for that? Sure, though I feel like the irony of separating Kagami and Adrien only for them to meet up as Ryuko and Chat Noir (with Chat knowing full well about this) along with the minor guilt trip Kagami unintentionally gave her works out just fine. But Miracle Queen was not related to her choice and cannot be considered karma when it would have occurred regardless of Ladybug’s bad call
The only way Ladybug could have possibly ‘avoided’ Miracle Queen would be to give specifically Chloé the Bee Miraculous, but that would only be delaying the inevitable since Chloé won’t be satisfied with a loaned Miraculous, and Master Fu would have been caught regardless
show us the weirdest little gadget you have that you love
I LOVE GADGETS! Its not so little but I love my Octatrack MKII. I’ve owned the OP-1, Z, M8 tracker, Polyend tracker, and this is my favorite sampling device outta all of them. It has so much hidden depth and cool unique funky ways to process and modulate sounds, both with samples ofc and also LIVE, and you can retrigger via MIDI (u can loop midi back into itself and do live resampling), ho boy its good. Max marco on YouTube showed me what this beast can truly do. Perfect IDM glitchy dnb machine. I also love my two semi modular little synths, the 0-coast and quandrantid swarm
We just unlocked a Pukicho special interest. Go ahead and infodump buddy, we’re all here to listen
Good night to everyone, enjoy a bedtime pic of my puppy

Just wanna point out that technically speaking Adrien can still confront Gabriel through the use of a kwagatama from Duusu. It won’t be the same obviously but it’s still an option for him to get closure and speak to Gabriel from beyond the grave, albeit he won’t remember anything about S5
Marinette, Adrien, and Kagami should all have an apprehension of the color white. The latter two theorize Marinette shares similar experiences, while Marinette disguises her fear as disdain and a designer's preference.
Where’s my post about Marinette being weird around white cats? That
Chat makes a joke about how LB wears the pants in their relationship so he’ll show up to their wedding in a big white dress and LB just has a panic attack on the spot
I love when ppl make posts about adrichat being allowed to get mad and it’s always directed at maribug for things that either aren’t her fault or are extreme plot contrivances
Like. Y’all do know that Chat has canonically gotten mad at Ladybug multiple times already, and usually for things that aren’t her fault at that?
She can’t tell him about Fu? He threw a tantrum
She can’t show up to a date he planned cuz she already has other plans? He threw a tantrum
Generally doesn’t return his affections? Tantrum
I’m not saying he isn’t allowed to get mad at her, especially now that she’s keeping such a huge secret, but him getting mad at her is definitely an itch that’s been scratched in the past
Wonder if there’s another reason for ppl to want maribug on the receiving end of his anger 🤔
To be fair...
Ladybug doesn't tell him that she's going out of town and has to trust the Miraculous to another person? Attempted murder. I mean, tantrum.
Which is even dumber when you remember New York, where Ladybug did tell him she was going out of town, and that she trusted him to remain in Paris and warn her to come back if need be… and after agreeing, he left as well, not only without telling her but also without finding a replacement or someone in general to keep an eye out for the both of them. Yet we’re supposed to feel sympathy for Chat because now Ladybug’s mad at him and keeps shouting at him?
Whichever way the wind blows, Mari doing her best isn’t good enough to compare to Adrien doing nothing (or, y’know, actively murdering someone for daring to not be Ladybug specifically)
so i’m not exactly sure how The Wish system functions BUT to my current knowledge, marinette woke up right after the wish was made and then when looking for the miraculous, not finding it
SO DOES THAT MEAN. LILA 😭 WAS SWIMMING THROUGH BASEMENT SEWER WATER 😭 WHILE GABRIEL WAS FLYING INTO HEVEAN WITH HIS WIFE’S CORPSE, TRYING TO GET THAT BROOCH
Also if the wish occurring knocked Marinette unconscious, does that mean that the whole world was briefly unconscious? Was there a blast rate? If so, I can’t imagine that Lila wasn’t also hit. Which means she’d have had to have gotten down there, grabbed the brooch AND gotten out of there BEFORE the blast - the fight wasn’t even over yet and she was already on her merry way!
Unless she was somehow able to wake up earlier than Marinette AND hide from Marinette long enough to not be caught out. Though I’d imagine she’d have left a trail of sewer water behind her if she did nick off with it post-knockout - did the wish clean that up?
Nah girl dove into the water and made her getaway before Gabe’s wish came into effect, or at least she got far enough away with the brooch to evade Aquabug
Okaaaaaaaaay….

Let’s get into my first thoughts, gang
Okay so I’m tryna rig my vTuber model but whenever I look down she closes her eyes and looks all depressed and sad, her mouth turns into a big frown and her eyebrows do the up-curved sad look. How do I fix this? Everything else looks fine I just need to work out how to fix the looking down portion of this

You can’t tell me that isn’t the story of Marinette’s life at this point and it would be funny if it wasn’t so damn sad and unsatisfying
DESERVED. Marinette should have stopped obsessing. And looking like she's the aggressor.
But anyways, it doesn't matter since next episode all of them are completely on her side. Since Lila dipped, their only person to shift their anger on goes towards Chloe as all hope they expected from Lila was shattered by Marinette and Sabrina.
I agree that Marinette wasn’t helping her case in scenarios where she was arguing about Lila faking disabilities for attention (that whole concept was shitty really) because she’s gonna look like an ableist asshat even if she’s absolutely correct unless she can provide solid proof first
But I’m not surprised she’s obsessing over Lila lying considering Lila literally declared war against her and threatened to turn everyone at school against her. Marinette is a character portrayed as unable to stand liars (granted she can accept lies with good reason such as keeping identities secret of course) and so of course she gets frustrated when she sees Lila bullshitting all her friends. Especially when these same lies from this same girl have gotten her expelled multiple times, I’d have a huge grudge too and be obsessing how to get rid of this girl ASAP
Here’s a take; I don’t think Adrien should have the Black Cat Miraculous
Now don’t get me wrong, I still think he can be a great superhero, I just don’t think he’s suited to that particular Miraculous considering he’s been consistently shown to have destructive tendencies and to lash out in anger or pain. I mean, if you include himself in Guiltrip, there have been four instances on-screen in which he’s actively attempted to Cataclysm people (himself, Scarabella, Kim and Dark Owl), one instance where he suggested it as a last resort (Sole Crusher) and two instances where he successfully - albeit unintentionally - did Cataclysm people (Uncanny Valley, Monarch). That’s seven separate occasions where Chat Noir using his power on a human being has come up, with two of those successfully landing, and even if you discount the times where he didn’t intend to do it or times when he only raised the last resort option AND the time he tried to do it to himself under Guiltrip’s influence that’s STILL THREE INTENTIONAL ATTEMPTS
Now if Chat Noir’s powers were something like Venom, Uproar or Gift, this wouldn’t be an issue. It wouldn’t be great, sure, but it would be a harmless, temporary effect. But Chat Noir has the power to disintegrate anything he touches and now we’ve seen the effects that has on a human being; it’s horribly painful and slowly spreads across their body until it eventually kills them. Do you really want to trust that sort of power to the kid with a track record of going after other people with it?
So let’s look at where Adrien’s strengths lie as a hero; what does he bring to the table outside of Cataclysm? The answers you typically see with him are loyalty, trustworthiness, humour and just being a generally supportive guy that Ladybug can turn to when she needs emotional support as well as backup. And I know there are retorts to each of these but I’m not here to discuss those - that’s for a later post. Right now I’m just considering which Miraculous is more suited to Adrien knowing this
My first thought was the Pig Miraculous, considering Gift is not only a physically harmless power, but almost always a pleasant one to experience, which could definitely help with him being the first person Ladybug turns to for emotional support and reassurance that she can do things. He’s consistently used to divert the attention of the villain and Gift could certainly do that. There’s no need to worry about what he’d do if he grew emotionally volatile himself because Gift can’t actually cause any physical harm. Perhaps it could teach him to manage his emotions a little better, or at least help him to calm down and think about how letting out his anger in unhealthy ways impacts others?
But for someone who doesn’t always keep a cool head and makes impulsive decisions at times, as well as someone who frequently makes the sacrifice play for Ladybug, the Snake Miraculous could be interesting. It would give Adrien the chance to act on his impulses without endangering the mission since he could have a do-over (not saying it’s morally right but at least he’d be able to reverse the damage instantly and he’d be the only traumatised party) or he could take all the time he needed to calm down and clear his head before getting back to the fight. It could also allow him to save Ladybug without sacrificing himself and thus taking himself out of the fight and leaving her to handle things all on her own; he could instead take the warning and get her out of the way ahead of time. It’s also a more versatile option for fights as opposed to Gift

Which episode order you are using for your reviews of Miraculous episodes?
For my “Marinette Lesson of the Episode” reviews I’m just going off the order on the Wikipedia for simplicity’s sake, then I’ve just been going through the transcript of the episode to refresh my memory and identify the issues in how the lesson is presented
I also had a Ladybug!Alya AU fic called the Shutterbug AU I was doing where I rewrote most of the episodes on AO3 and for that I used the order on my Netflix since I’d go back and rewatch the episodes first to make notes before taking to the transcripts. Exceptions of course fall when I’ve deliberately changed the order of an episode or two to serve the plot. I’ve still got plans for that AU going into S2 so I should probably get back to that, or maybe if I’m too lazy I’ll just post all my notes and call it a day
Is it only my impression, or in Miraculous Chat Noir is allowed to critizice Ladybug, but Ladybug is not allowed to criticize Chat Noir?
I completely agree and I think a big part of that comes down to the way the way the writers view Marinette and Adrien respectively; Marinette is supposed to learn a lesson in every episode and as she’s always been the one actively trying to advance the love square before the writers are ready for that, she has to fail often and make a lot of mistakes that are often played for comedy by the writers and the characters around her (before we’re suddenly told we’re now making fun of her trauma which is bad but I digress) whereas Adrien has always been considered by the writers to be ‘perfect’ and ‘he’s not flawed - the world is’, with even the characters in-universe referring to Adrien as ‘perfection personified’ and such
As a consequence, Marinette is often portrayed as in the wrong, even when the universe bends over backwards to make it so, whereas Adrien can’t be criticised and thus becomes a bit of a stagnant character because perfection doesn’t allow room to grow
I think that the LadyNoir dynamic does allow for playful criticism between the pair, granting us Ladybug banter such as “I’m not interested in your poetry, but I do find your foolishness incredibly powerful!”, “Because [the Ladybug Miraculous] requires a sense of responsibility~?”, “I had it under control *smacks Chat’s head* but thanks”, etc etc
But beyond the obviously playful banter that Chat returns in spades constantly, there’s definitely a theme of Chat Noir consistently mucking about in battle, often leading to either himself or someone else getting incapacitated or some other reckless and/or generally unhelpful issue caused, Ladybug getting annoyed at him and Chat giving some retort to poke fun at or pacify her rather than addressing the issue at hand. I mean, the start of Reflekdoll is a perfect example; Ladybug is calling Chat Noir out on pulling a prank in the middle of battle that almost caused her Lucky Charm to fail, with Chat Noir simply joking around and calling her no fun and a stick in the mud. I get that he’s not gonna be the most responsible and focused constantly, neither of them are, they’re fourteen. But there’s a difference between a quick pun while fighting and a prank on your partner while she’s already running on less than five minutes before she transforms back, trying to focus on a very serious problem and the prank being enough to put their entire mission in jeopardy. Play about and joke around all you want, we don’t care if you screw around on the job, but make sure you don’t actively work against said job while you do it!
And then afterwards the pair have a bit of a personality swap as well now that they swap Miraculous, with Adrien as Mister Bug being forced to step up since he now has the Miraculous that, in the nicest way possible, requires hard work and effort to use, whereas Marinette as Lady Noire is now freed from that burden and can use the comparatively simplistic power of just tapping whatever she wants to destroy and watching it happen, the most effort she has to put in with that is simply getting close enough to the desired object in order to touch it without touching anything else between activating her power and using it. So of course Mister Bug, used to slacking off and playing about, is a little overwhelmed in a situation where he’s the strategist rather than the support while Lady Noire, still a little annoyed by their earlier discussion, was happy to actively reverse the roles, taking time to play about and make quips at Mister Bug’s expense. Even making a joke that wearing the Black Cat suit/being in Chat’s role is “a lot lighter on the shoulders”, aka making a jab at Chat never having a sense of responsibility and thus the ‘weight being lifted off her shoulders’ now that she’s taking over his end of the load
The fan reactions to this episode were very telling; a lot of people were saying that Lady Noire was being rude and unhelpful and cruel to Mister Bug, which is hilarious since they actively, verbally clarified multiple times in the episode that both heroes were starting to act like each other now that the roles were reversed; Lady Noire was now “wearing the clown costume” and no longer a stick in the mud like Chat Noir complained about while Mister Bug “doesn’t have a sense of humour” and is no longer playing around and not taking things seriously mid-battle like Ladybug complained about
If they were simply acting like each other, why was Lady Noire considered rude and unhelpful for joking around mid-battle whereas Chat Noir is praised for being funny and keeping Ladybug from burning herself out by providing a supposed outlet to stress? If you complain about one, you have to complain about the other, especially since Lady Noire was still helping; she kept explaining how the Lucky Charm worked even when Mister Bug ignored her to prove he knew how to do this better than an experienced, specifically-selected wielder, she helped him think through the Lucky Charm by placing herself in Mister Bug’s shoes and attempting to adapt to his own thought process rather than hers, she repeatedly defended him from attacks while he was struggling to work out the mirror and yo-yo, etc. For all her sarcasm and salty quips, there was never a point where she left Mister Bug high and dry to fend for himself or sat by watching and flirting leisurely while he did all the work
I know I’ve focused a lot on Reflekdoll here since this is the most blatant example of the issue (being that Ladybug was in the right to criticise Chat for risking the fight over a prank while Mister Bug and some viewers criticising Lady Noire for being unhelpful was not only uncalled for but incorrect) but there are certainly many other examples I can think of in which MariBug is blamed for AdriChat’s actions or AdriChat criticises MariBug without good reason or MariBug is seen as rude or otherwise in the wrong for criticising AdriChat despite having legitimate grievances or not having all the info on a situation in which said info was impossible for her to know and/or actively kept from her. Season 4 is a goldmine for this but I know I always make incredibly long rambling posts so I’ll cut things short here, if the long ramble is what people are after feel free to ask for one
“Marinette Lesson of the Episode” Review - S1 E2: The Bubbler
Essay-Worthy Review (TL;DR at the bottom)
So obviously the overarching lesson of the episode is that ‘you should always listen to adults even when their rules sound boring or unfair because ultimately they keep you safe’, and I could write a whole separate essay on that, but ultimately what we’re here for is Marinette’s lesson, which is partially used to explain that after a superpower is used the heroes have five minutes before they transform back and partially used to say ‘don’t put off your responsibilities. There’s not much to write about here, in all honesty, but I’ll see what I can do
First off, we see Ladybug use her Lucky Charm to stop Chloé and Adrien from slow dancing, which results in her having to leave the party to transform back and recharge. Tikki scolds Marinette for using her superpower out of ‘jealousy’. While I’m in full agreement that Marinette did let her personal feelings have a say in this one, I’d also like to point out just how uncomfortable Adrien looked; he was cringing and physically recoiling from Chloé trying to get away from her without being rude. Aligning with Marinette’s personal desires and not being directly related to the akuma are not Marinette using her powers for personal gain, which we know Tikki is adamantly against
Marinette counters this argument by saying it was an emergency, which isn’t exactly the best choice of words but certainly isn’t necessarily incorrect; she still protected Adrien from a clearly non-consentual kiss and I’m sure that was ringing alarm bells in his head to say the least. Tikki then takes the chance to inform the audience remind Marinette that she only has five minutes between using her power and transforming back. The dialogue is a little ham-fisted, but I can understand why; it needs to be clear for the young kids watching why they can’t just keep throwing power after power at the villains and why they’re suddenly worried about the time
And now to the second Marinette lesson of the episode, Alya encourages Marinette to come into the Agreste Manor so that she can sign her present to Adrien. Tikki reminds her that they need to deal with the Bubbler first, but Tikki is still eating at this point and there’s no reason why this shouldn’t take more than a second so what’s the problem? In fact, even when they’re inside and Marinette is just finishing writing up the note, Tikki then says that she’s ready to go, implying that Tikki finished her cookie at the same time Marinette finished with the note. Marinette then sent Alya outside so that she could transform inside, only to see Ivan had been bubbled,to which she exclaims “No! You were right, Tikki, I never should’ve waited this long!”
How long were you waiting? The three seconds it took for you to acknowledge Tikki and then send Alya out of the room? If Tikki herself only just finished eating, you couldn’t have transformed earlier even if you hadn’t gone to sort out a note
——— Rankings ———
Intended Lesson
Teach the viewers how the Miraculous function and what limitations they have, don’t use superpowers for selfish reasons, prioritise your responsibilities and don’t put off important things
Conveyed Lesson
Superpowers can only be used once and after that you’re on a timer before you transform back, prioritise responsibilities over personal desires
Appropriateness: ⭐️⭐️
Marinette is the type of person who generally does prioritise her responsibilities over her personal desires. Adrien can cause this to fluctuate a bit, but considering this is only the second episode, with the first and only other episode highlighting that Marinette often prioritises her responsibilities over her personal desires to a point of fault, this lesson is poorly-timed at best. In general, over the course of the show, this message can stand to be reminded gently to Marinette when it comes to Adrien in S1-S3, which is why it gets a bit of a higher ranking, but in general Marinette’s good at this and this lesson sort of counteracts the characterisation of the last episode
Execution: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
The dialogue was slightly ham-fisted as I said but I’ll excuse that since it was meant for explaining plot mechanics to kids. Ladybug using her Lucky Charm to save an uncomfortable Adrien from Chloé and Tikki taking this to mean Marinette is using her powers for selfish purposes are both in-character and don’t feel forced. A safe ‘meh’ rating is the best I can give
Blame Distribution: ⭐️⭐️
Marinette was in trouble with Tikki for using her powers out of jealousy. Technically she isn’t wrong, though Marinette also had valid reasons outside of jealousy to act. They did allow Marinette to defend herself and her reasoning as well though, which I’m pleased with. But Marinette blaming herself for ‘waiting this long’ to transform was silly considering that she couldn’t have transformed any earlier regardless. Still, they brush over this quickly and mostly reduce it to a one-liner from Marinette herself, so it’s an easy one to overlook
Overall Ranking: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Meh. To be honest it didn’t really feel like there was a Marinette-centric lesson this episode. Which, don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining about. There were enough overarching lessons as it was. I can’t really give this one anything other than three stars of ‘not bad, not good, just kinda happened’
