“Hello gorgeous,” his manager greeted with that irritating optimism with which he began every phone call. “How was the office today?”
“It was good,” he answered evenly, digging for his keys in his pocket. “I’m just about to head home. What’s up?”
“Just wanted to see how the weather was,” Rick said conversationally. “I know yesterday’s meeting was not what you wanted to hear.”
Joe stopped in the middle of the parking lot and rolled his eyes. “What? That I’m being forced into house arrest because no one can get a handle on the fucking rumor mill?”
“Well, now, darling,” Rick began patronizingly. “There is one person who could get a handle on the rumor mill—”
“Stop,” he dragged out the word. “I’m not feeding this monster.”
“If you’re not going to tell your own story, Joe, there are plenty of people willing to tell a version of it to benefit themselves,” Rick said, parroting exactly what the rest of his team had said the day before.
“I’m an actor,” Joe said, trying not to lose his patience again. “I’m an idiot who stands in the right spot and memorizes words on a page. Why the fuck does anyone care where I am or who I’m with?”
“If I could answer that, my darling boy, we’d both be very, very rich men. The fact stands that they do. And until you start accepting this and take control of the narrative to help us steer things in your favor, then yes, I’m sorry. I have to agree with the group on this. It’s best for everyone if you just stay in, and keep to yourself. Don’t give these women anything more to work with.”
He let out an exhausted sigh. “So…it’s my fault,” he said finally. “That’s what we’re saying? Because I don’t want to play these stupid games?”
“Sweetie, we’re saying this is a compromise. The other option is we find a nice girl for you to be seen with at a few strategic events and locations—”
“No,” he said firmly. “No, I don’t want that.” It was hard enough trying to meet someone and form a genuine connection. The last thing he wanted was some escort-style set-up further complicating things.
“Well then,” Rick said, as if everything were settled. “Order in, put your feet up, and wait for this all to blow over.”

Thanks for all of the recent feedback around Community Labels being incorrectly applied to content. In particular, we appreciate the input we’ve received from the LGBTQIA+ community and understand the frustrations from folks who felt that their content was unfairly labeled. When we realized this was happening, we immediately investigated and are taking steps to prevent this from happening again.
The LGBTQIA+ community makes up about a quarter of the Tumblr community. It is important for us to support all Tumblr users, especially those whose safe spaces are under threat in certain parts of the world.
As you know, alongside of the rollout of Community Labels we also expanded the types of content allowed on Tumblr as a way to welcome more creativity, art, and self-expression. Our goals remain the same today. Human error happens and we apologize to anyone who has been impacted by these mistakes.
We are working to better understand what happened and will follow up with more information soon.
