If I were a rich girl I'd buy so many 🎮 games

trying but failing to be a diverse gaming blog. mostly aesthetic gaming and dnd refs

I do find it humorous that, within the fandom, Leon has a reputation of being the “suave flirty womanizer” when that’s like… the opposite of what Capcom was intending originally. Leon is a loser, he’s cursed with horrible luck– that is how he was described in the early days. He’s meant to be a badass agent with absolutely no game, he’s pretty but he’s also “babygirl you are so strange and off-putting.”

True. I’d say Capcom was very successful in depicting Leon as they originally intended.

What little we’ve seen in the romance department suggest the boy’s got no game. To the point that I would fully believe it if Capcom suddenly revealed he was supposed to be gay all along but making a halfhearted attempt to hide it to avoid a dishonorable discharge. With most characters, I’d question if they were going for diversity points, but with Leon? Completely believable.

Considering we’ve only seen him directly ask Hunnigan (and maybe Shen Mei) out once -in a manner not smooth at all- and immediately get turned down hard, I’ve never understood where the ‘suave, flirty womanizer’ thing came from.

I say “maybe Shen Mei” because again, he’s not smooth at all when he bluntly asks if she wants to “grab dinner”. I honestly can’t tell if that was supposed to be him asking her out or if he was hungry and being nice/trying to make a new friend. He later says he thought Claire called him to “grab dinner” when he definitely wasn’t thinking of a date, so the language suggests he just wanted dinner.

In OG RE2, when Ada starts with her half-out-of-it speech about how it’s hard for a woman like her to get close to anybody, he starts to say something and then just lets the word “I” trail off before awkwardly looking away. To be fair, he does think she’s a civilian looking for her boyfriend at this point, but he’s still just so awkward. In the remake, he looks completely baffled when she puts her hand on his thigh and in both versions, he doesn’t move when she moves in to kiss him. He literally has a beautiful (if somewhat villainous) woman kissing him and just…doesn’t do anything out of pure confusion. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a fair response in both games, but not really the behavior of a character we’re supposed to see as a suave, flirty womanizer.

He’s nice about turning down Ashley’s offer in OG RE4, but not flirty or smooth at all.

In Degeneration, when Angela remarks about wanting to go diving again (because she thought him trying to keep her alive was a kiss), he blanks out for a moment before responding in a way that could mean he got it and is into it, or could mean he has no idea what she’s on about and is trying to be nice and leave without any further drama or awkwardness.

Ada speaks to him the same way she speaks to the president and he speaks to her the same way he talks to his kidnappers during their brief exchanges in Damnation, so it’s kinda hard to read anything into them. The director stated he liked to imagine they had a romantic evening together in regards to the ‘pick up where we left off’ and ‘anytime but now’ exchange, but he wasn’t able to put anything definitive in the film and the last canon time they were together was her stopping him from trying to stop her at the end of RE4. Plus, ‘pick up where we left off” suggests whatever they’re referring to (be it a fight or a fling) was something that didn’t happen anyway. To Capcom, that bit could be referring to almost anything.

The man speaks of meals and rocket launchers with more interest than he does of women at this point. I generally like that Capcom focuses on shooting zombies, solving puzzles, and fighting monsters more than romance in their games, but as far as characterization goes, they definitely haven’t even tried to set Leon up as a suave, flirty womanizer as far as I can tell.

I updated my house! I mentioned this in a previous post, but I’ve been playing through the original Final Fantasy 7 and I was feeling so inspired at seeing Aeris’ house once again. I love the dark woods, and how her kitchen was enclosed. I wanted to capture something similar to that.

I divided up the house into two different colors. A more somber and moody part for the living room and reading nook, and a more bright and lively space for the kitchen. Most of my activity in real life is done in the kitchen, and making food is my love language, so I wanted to emphasize that with this house remodel.

If you’d like to visit, I’m located on Primal, Famfrit, Goblet ward 14 plot 60

A tale about Nadia and Lucio's wedding would kind of be amazing. You just know these two went all out on decorations, animals, outfits, everything!
