Princess Mononoke’s mother wolf Moro and Howl’s Moving Castle’s Witch of the Waste are both voiced by a famous singer and drag queen Akihiro Miwa.

Akihiro Miwa (born in 1935) is one of the most prominent queer icon in Japanese history, who survived the atomic bombing of Nagasaki (his hometown) during WW2.

We've been losing power due to winter storms lately so my partner 3D printed me a tealight "to fill in for tumblr when you're offline"

If you're wondering why I will not leave this site and why I love it so much: after this went around, I got a message from Tumblr asking if they could make it official merch and then they did. It went live yesterday I think, and it's even prettier and better than this original design (they definitely put work into it which was very exciting).

But I want to say something else. They asked for suggestions on where to get these made, and I gave them the names of a few mass production companies, but I also gave them the name of my small local guys. I didn't expect them to go there, it's probably more expensive to use a smaller local shop, but I know it would mean more to them. And I was immediately told they'd check in with them, and then that's just what happened.

They went with my little guys.

So if you're wondering about the price, it's because Tumblr staff just... Listened and cared. They listened to the people who said they wanted one of these, and then they not only asked me but listened to the answer when I suggested supporting a business local to me. That's invaluable to me.

Also it's important to me that you know this comes apart so you can use just the dumpster to put things in. My prototypes are full of jellybeans.

Tumblr is known and also spoken of by its user base for its high proportion of lgbt+ users, but I'm curious as to if the lgbt+ user base is actually as large as though or if its just confirmation bias, so...

For fun if you want put how you identify in the tags and the part of tumblr you'd say you're here for

Anon this is such a difficult question but I think I'm in a better place to answer it this year than last year? There are some old books that I no longer love, and there are some books that I still love and would happily reread again.

I've been writing a lot more lately. Practicing short stories and writing for a graphic novel project. I find that I go through very similar stages with each writing (or drawing) project, at the end of which I need to put it away and not look at it for a while before I can actually tell if it's any good. Any of you do any writing? What does your process look like?

another thing thats interesting is i think most people assume its a walk of reasonably short length that you have to resist looking back. but we dont know how long that walk was. its out of the underworld, time could work very differently. could be days. could be months. could you walk for months without looking back to see if your love is okay? i dont think you could

Just finished Bei Nan's 偷風不偷月 (Steal on a windy night, not when there's a full moon) and IT IS SO GOOD

(out of curiously i went and asked chatgpt to translate that expression and it went: It literally means "stealing wind, not stealing moon" but it is an idiomatic expression meaning to save money and cut corners. -- uh ... no)

You will have to hunt down all the meat that has been chopped off jjwxc, it's a bit of a mince pie, but it's still meat and it is good

There are writers that makes me finish a million word novel in a week (cough, P大) because the style is so bad that I only read for plot, and then there's Bei Nan, whose writing is so pretty it actually made me want to slow down and go over sentences again.

Anyway, read this. I cried like 4 times.
