I mean I read that oranges were part of christmas stockings and the lot so maybe old gods just give you oranges like "here take this fruit from a faraway place and no need to thank me" and they are being so nice but in the last 100 years globalism happened and we keep shipping any stuff growing at any time everywhere so oranges are no longer special?

Avatar

Huh, y’know, that’s not a bad theory.

Avatar

historian brain says: that’s exactly what happened. Like… within the past 50 years. The man-thing’s mom is from West Virginia. Every year they got an orange in their stockings. It always sent them over the moon, since they were rather exotic. I’m in my early 40s and remember that citrus fruits were a rarity in the house when I was young (like… single digits young).

I am fascinated by this, and it gives context to why chocolate oranges in Christmas stockings are such a thing in my family. Huh.

This is also why inland states have seafood on christmas. Way back when that was the onlytime they wouldnt go rancid in transport. I was appalled when i first heard of Oyster Stuffing until i learned the historical connotation

If I remember correctly, the first important oranges were a very good source for vitamin C during the winter times. I assume it’s because the imported oranges either grew in a warm climate or even on the southern hemisphere!

In Germany, we have a saying for Saint Nicolas’ Holiday on the 6th of December (the guy who inspired Santa Claus as a figure) and it’s “apple, nut and almond seed” which basically was the original filling for stockings. Nicolaus stockings, not Christmas stockings, but the latter are inspired by the former.

Basically, the legends of Saint NIcolas are about a Bishop bringing food and money to poor families and leaving it in their shoes (Shoes often were placed either outdoors or in the cold fireplace to dry because leather shoes got soaked in snow).

During Winter, many folks liked to eat imported goods from the seaside and warmer climates, which is probably why the old Gods also like to provide you with these kind of things during winter.

I stitched a rune staff spell for restful sleep into felt fabric. Some time ago I drew the same runes on paper in green ink, thinking of Bragi and how he influenced my life in a good way, how I need the rest and muttering “By the lines drawn calm and right, let me have good sleep tonight”. But the paper gets moved a bunch while I sleep and I figured fabric was a more long-time solution. I’m going to put this under my matress and pray for restful sleep. A lot of my conditions leave me constantly tired and/or in pain and maybe this will lessen the problems even more <3

MY PRECIOUS

Not to derail from THE PAKIDGE buuuuuut I see fiber? I mean at least I assume it will eventually be thread? & like I just want you to know that @ first glance I assumed you had just helped to deliver very hairy puppies (due to the wetnesd i see) when the package arrived & I was very confused.

Avatar

Oh! Yeah. I just washed the dust off some alpaca fleece and it’s drying

I FULLY assumed that yarn was about to be made from Cat Brushings.

Avatar

Well. I have done that, but my boys are a medium storm-gray, not black.

However, cat yarn, while I’m sure a nightmare for anyone with allergies, is as light and soft as a cloud, and very warm.

Wait you can do cat-yarn??? Maybe it depends on the cat because mine has short-ish, very smooth/slick hair and it’s tough, not too soft. I figure big poofy maine-coon’s/mixes got some “wooly” fur?

I’m both pro herbal medicine and pro vaccination because you can treat burns with aloe vera juice and sore throats with lavender infused honey but you can’t rid a country of polio with plants.

THIS.

Don’t forget kids, jewelweed is a natural counteragent to poison ivy rashes but it won’t do shit against whooping cough

Mint for nausea, valerian and chamomile for sleep, antibiotics for fucking infections.

Witchy Mood Music

I responded to a post about chants and music to help raise energy (for hausofsageandcrystals & ace-of-pentacles) before or during practicing magic, and I thought instead of just helping that person, I’d just make a master post to help anyone who might be looking for a list like this.

Each artist is listed here with a link to an example of their music… I would 10/10 recommend all of these artists to anyone with a taste for the medieval/pagan/witchy feel. I will do my best to define the genre of music they all fall under for you guys.

Separate list for OSTs! Selections from these will also be included in the playlist if I can find them.

I hope this list is helpful for people! These are just some of my favorites, if there is anyone you think I should add to this list, message me! :)

Also adding a link to a new spotify playlist that includes all of the artists from this list that spotify has. I’ll mark the ones that aren’t on it with “☆”

Hello again friends!

I know it’s been quite some time but I do read all of your comments and messages, and I have updated this list again today with additions and amendments from several Tumblr users!

Thank you so much to the following users for their recommendations to this list:

And similarly, a huge thanks to the following users who left comments with helpful information about certain artists:

@halethevampire  for their advising that Loreena McKennit is great for Christopagans, as well as @sara8181 & @johyejung for letting me know that  Eivør is actually Faroese rather than Icelandic!

I really appreciate everyone’s comments and helpfulness in building this list, and I will be slowly adding all of the new additions into the Spotify playlist linked at the bottom of the original post.

Much love to all!

good evening I utterly despise nerds

THIS IS BEYOND UPSETTING

IT STOOD FOR  T W O  T H O U S A N D  F U C K I N G  Y E A R S  AND NOW THESE NERDS ARE DESTROYING IT BECAUSE OF THEIR SHITTY TV SHOW

To clarify: they are destroying it by standing on it to take fucking selfies and whatnot

Everyone that damages it deserve a pilum in the chest

guys

don’t act like this is new. This shit has been happening for years in England.

Did you know people used to be allowed to walk IN Stonehenge, actually touch the stones? But the Salisbury Council and English Heritage councils had to put a stop to that when fucking tourists from abroad would physically break chunks off the stones in order to take them home. When idiot teenagers spray-painted graffiti across them. When fucking twats climbed them.

People come in, people want pieces, people want pictures, people get their shitty pictures and steal pieces, and fuck off, uncaring of the damage they leave behind.

It’s the same fucking song and dance all over the world in almost every cultural heritage site. Regardless of film or TV. Teach your fucking crotch goblins to respect history, slap your parents’ hands when they try to grab something, steer your sticky fingered grandparents away, and smack your dumbass siblings/cousins if they try to deface something. Hopefully by the time we’re all done, there might be something left over for our great-grand children to enjoy.

But don’t hold your breath.

How To Wash Your Binder!

Hey everyone, just wanted to make this is show y’all how I wash my binder and as a reminder to wash your binder!

So first off, I like to wash my binders every third day (unless it was really hot that day or if I spilled something on it, then I wash it that day)

So first I fill the sink up with warm water and put my binders in the water. Then I like to let them just soak in the water for a few minutes!

So next I use a Landry cleaner and softener

I keep them in small tubs cause I don’t need the whole bottle.

Now I leave them to soak for a couple minutes

Now I’m using dove body wash to make it smell nice and feel a lot softer

Now I let that soak for a moment

After I scrub them I drain the warm water

And then rinse them off with cold water

If any of your water turns a weird color do not worry! It’s not because it dirty, it’s just the dye!

Then I squeeze them out the best I can by hand and then I leave them to hang like this for the night!

Hope this was helpful!?

To my trans followers.

Just in case I have any followers who would be helped by this

First of all, I could need this lmao. Second, IF ANY OF YOU HAS A BINDER, WASH IIITTT

Avatar

If you don’t wash em you can get really painful skin rashes ouo make sure you wash em!

Anonymous asked:

Since Odin likes big hats, do you think he has at least one heavily feathered and ridiculously large hat like the ladies wear at the Kentucky Derby?

I don’t think this, I KNOW this

I can’t help but think of the scene in POTC where Jack gets Barbossa on his side by promising to buy him a really big hat.

Just.

Big hat, big brim, big feather, bde. Odin sure would be in on that.

Soups and Broths in Magick

I am rather new to the witch community on tumblr but I have been interested in witchcraft for years. I have come upon a reoccurring thing, many of my friends I wish to magically aid through teas and herbal brews, do not like the taste of tea. I have found that mixing herbal blends or herbs representing what you wish to occur into soups and broths work just as well! In fact if you choose the right soup you can get sometimes better results I have found. Soup mimics tea by being easily drank and can be served warm and hot, which I find very comforting.

First it is important to choose a soup or broth that goes well taste wise with the herbs you wish to use. You want it to taste pleasant for yourself or the one you are providing it to. Though, try to find a soup or stock or broth that corresponds with what you wish to achieve with the herbs to further strengthen and increase the outcome you wish.

A short list of correspondences:

Chicken Broth/Stock: Uncrossing, new growth, fertility, sacrifice, New beginnings, rebirth

Turkey Broth/Stock: Close connections to Earth, generosity, inspiration, bounty, blessings

Beef Broth/Stock: New beginnings, femininity/female power, fertility, strength, balance

Pork Broth/Stock or Bacon: Intelligence, good luck, prosperity, curiousity, discovering new things

Fish Broth/Stock: Close connections to Water, health, improving oneself, the unconcious mind, awareness, fertility, good luck, wishes, change

Shellfish/Clam/Mussel Broth/Stock/Soup/Chowder: Protection, stopping lies/gossip/rumors, removal or treatment of stubbornness, honesty, truth, close connections to both Water and Earth, living a natural life

Shrimp Broth/Stock: love, abundance, fertility, trying new things, moving forward

Cheese base/Milk base soup/Chowder: Beauty, femininity, love, self-love, purification, rebirth

Tomato Soup: Protection, prosperity, love, uncrossing, femininity, romance and passion, negation of negativity and evil

Pumpkin Soup: Healing, prosperity, love, protection, granting wishes

Squash Soup: Psychic awareness, spiritual enlightenment

Corn Chowder: connections to the sun, luck, prosperity, abundance

Onion Soup: protection, keep evil away, healing, banishing, stability, exorcism, money, lust, and ends bad habits

Pea Soup: Kindness, connections with Air

Mushroom Soup: psychic enhancement, connections to Earth, longevity, strength, immortality

Curry/Curry Soups: banishing, healing, prosperity, protection from negativity

Soups with Noodles: Longevity, uncrossing

Soups with Rice: prosperity, blessing, money and wealth, security, good fortune to come

Soups with Barley: Love, Healing, Protection Hopefully this will be helpful for any witches who are not very big fans of the taste of teas or for anyone else for that matter. I would love to hear or see any other suggestions for tea replacements or other soups that could be used. This came straight out of my Grimoire and I hope to add more of it to this site soon. Blessed be everyone!

Please don’t look the other way!

This time of year, open all the plastic bags, insulated cardboard boxes met. When you see on the road a bag with the impression that it contains something, don’t ride on it but stop by to check the content. Open your ears and eyes on the edge of the ditches, waste, collective garbage, whether in town or in the countryside.
