Iron deficiency gang rise up (but not too fast)
funniest thing about the “reddit migration” is that I haven’t seen a single post shitting on anyone coming from Reddit. when twitter started bleeding users everyone was firing rent-lowering posts but with redditors skittering about we’ve left the doors open and put out food bowls
Redditors are like our slightly off-putting cousins that we still can get along with, Twitter users are like white people who buy out beloved establishments to turn them into a restaurant with exactly 6 things on the menu that all have avocado
I think calling the reddit situation a "boycott" is misrepresenting how that site operates at the scale it does and also why this is even remotely effective
reddit uses volunteer moderation and community management by design, so unlike other social media where a boycott would just result in a tiny dip in engagement at best, this is much more equivalent to (unpaid) employees (with no obligation to the company) walking out
in other words, you couldn't really do this with facebook or twitter or tumblr because you, as a nonemployee, are entirely incapable of causing disruption of service
if the top 100 biggest discord servers locked down in protest, it also wouldn't disrupt service in a meaningful way because (despite everything they do) discord's primary service is DMs and small chat servers
I didn't realize just how paranoid your average USAmerican is until I started canvassing neighborhoods. There are so many ring doorbells, so many cameras, so many "no trespassing" signs. I can't help but wonder how many of the people who willingly install spy cameras on their front porches go on about how scary the world of 1984 is, or about how China is a terrible surveillance state. Suburbanites happily created the surveillance state they're so afraid of.
in recent events of that zoo losing the clouded leopard, it reminded me of the time i went to a large petting zoo and there was a free roaming little black sheep. cutest little guy i ever saw, soi went to the zookeeper nearby and said ‘i think its really cute how you have a sheep thats allowed to just walk around. ‘ then the zookeepers eyes widened and he grabbed his walky talky and ran
i need to recreate this truck i saw with my eyes while driving on the highway today gimme a sec
it was like this
found a pic on reddit. 10/10 for accuracy
One thing about the WGA Strike is that Onion article was kinda right. Hollywood shot themselves in the foot with their current standard of cancelling every show people like to produce more and more short-term novelty.
It’s not like we have tons of shows ending on cliffhangers waiting for season six anymore. Due to their greed, they’ve personally taken long-term viewer investment outside and shot it and now they can’t count on it for negotiating power. What are viewers going to be mad about missing out on? The Twilight reboot? Another Star Wars spin-off? Several promising pilot seasons on Netflix with great representation that were already produced and cancelled before they aired and would’ve been even if the strike hadn’t happened?
Every show I grew up loving was cancelled before the writers or fans wanted it to be andvl that was when a single “season” was an entire year’s worth of weekly episodes, something that really felt like a big part of people’s lives for a reasonable length of time. Now the standard is a “season” of 12 episodes dumped all on streaming one night when you aren’t looking. Everyone binges it and the enthusiasm lasts about a week or two before there’s nothing left to talk about.
Like a fruit fly. Fruit fly fandoms. The show and hype live for around ten days before they die.
with soap2day gone, it's important to remember that talking about piracy online is inherently dangerous for the hosting site. if you have a site you like, DO NOT POST ABOUT IT. especially not on tiktok / twitter / instagram. do not turn it into a meme. if someone wants to know where to watch something, dm it to them and explain why you shouldn't share info willy nilly. honestly if you have the resources, get into torrenting.
loose lips sink ships. some things aren't widely talked about for a reaon.
Someone: Sheesh that's a lot of cigarettes
Me: Well *smiles warmly and rests my hand on my tummy* I am smoking for two right now ☺
Something that I first applied to working with children, and have applied in a limited form to working with adults: you don't need to tell someone when they read your instructions wrong. Sometimes it's enough to point out what they did right and then whatever they didn't do? You ask them to do it in more precise words, and you make it sound like it's a new request. Remarkable how fast things get done this way.
This is also a habit I built up from emergency response training. If I say "I need you to bring me a first aid kit and an accident report" and you bring me just a first aid kit, it's so much more efficient to say "thanks now can you bring me an accident report" than "I asked you to bring an accident report why didn't you bring me one".
Once you've internalized "a person bleeding out is one of the worst times to start an argument" you start to wonder what other tasks could get accomplished without arguing
food isnt even advertised as tasting good anymore it has to be like immune system boosting and vaginal ph balancing and shit now
