NYC: this Wednesday 5/3/23 is PRINT SLAM 15--the SVA RisoLAB's end-of-the-semester sale and exhibition. It's free and open to the public, so if you're in the area and want to browse and purchase risograph-printed goods come on by! My minicomics Broomistega & Thrinaxodon and Deep Time, in addition to the purple version of my Goblin Week 2023 print will be at PRINT SLAM 15!

Tumblr gave me a coupon to Blaze a post for free. How do I use this for maximum good and/or evil? Do I make more people upset by blazing the Broomistega & Thrinaxodon comic. Do I blaze a picture of my cat. Someone else's cat. One of those "you just got X'd" memes. The possibilities are endless and my coupon expires tomorrow.

(And for the record: I acknowledge that tumblr is a PVP zone and gracefully accept any Blazing of my art posts, purchases of Important Internet Checkmarks or virtual crabs or whatever it is they sell. Even better if you have a coupon.)

Hello, today is my birthday, and I would like to share a comic I made in the last year with you. It's called Broomistega and Thrinaxodon.

This comic was originally printed with yellow, fluorescent pink, light teal, and violet risograph inks. Physical copies are available in my shop.

Thank you so much everyone for the love on this! It's been incredible reading your reactions in the notes of this post. I don't know if I should apologize for the amount of crying this comic has caused?!

Thanks to your support the original printing has sold out, so I switched to store listing to preorders for the second printing! The comic is scheduled to be reprinted 4/19-4/22/23 and is expected to ship during the week of 4/24-4/29/23 after I assemble the new copies. I will keep pre-order customers updated via Ko-fi messages.

I'm also planning on documenting the second printing so I can do a "behind the scenes" post explaining the creation process. I hope it will be interesting to people that want to learn more about risograph printing, especially because this comic is particularly complex to print!

Shop News Roundup

  • Two new minicomics that debuted at MoCCA, Zinefest 3000 and Deep Time, have been added to the store.
  • All variations of Goblin Week prints have been restocked.
  • I turned on Stripe so besides PayPal, you now have to option to pay by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, etc. Apologies...I thought I turned this on months ago and my customers just really preferred PayPal *facepalm*
  • One minicomic is currently out of stock (Keys) and several more are low stock (Broomistega & Thrinaxodon, Osteomancy, etc.) but don't worry, I have riso printer time scheduled to reprint them next week. I will make a post when these have been fully restocked, around the last week of April.
  • I received an influx of orders over the last week due to the Broomistega & Thrinaxodon comic going around this very webbed site, but I've caught up and as of this post everything's been mailed out! Look for two emails from Ko-fi: one letting you know your package shipped, and a second containing a message from me with your tracking info.

And that's it for now! Thank you so much for all the support you've shown my work lately--it means so much to me! I am especially loving the tags getting left on Broomistega & Thrinaxodon.

New in the store: DEEP TIME!

Thousands and millions of years in the past our ancestors invented civilization, survived mass extinction events, and evolved into new forms...thousands and millions of years in the future they might stand on new worlds and travel to the stars...but what legacies did (will) they leave behind? Meditate on the vastness of time and the universe in this melancholy, formalist and experimental minicomic.

Deep Time is an accordion-fold comic that has been glued into a circular shape, so the story can be read backwards and forwards from any starting panel. Deep Time comes folded inside an envelope and is secured with a paper band. The envelope has instructions for unfolding and reading the comic on the back. Each comic is hand-printed and assembled by me.

Because the Broomistega & Thrinaxodon comic is going around: here’s photos from the time I took the Broomistega and Thrinaxodon mascot plushies to the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History after the comic’s print debut at Small Press Expo ‘22.

They got to hang out with their Triassic friends including a statue of a Lystrosaurus, and temnospondyl, and coolest of all: a real Thrinaxodon fossil!

(yes I made plushies of my comic characters yes I take them places and do photoshoots yes I am a huge nerd)

Big big thank you to everyone that came by my table at MoCCA Fest last weekend! It was so great to connect with you all, especially everyone that recognized the comic on the cover of “Brain Damage Comix” from here on Tumblr. It was my first time tabling at that event and I was absolutely blown away by the positive reception to my work!!!

If you weren’t at MoCCA I hope to have copies of my two new minicomics—Zinefest 3000 and Deep Time—up in my online shop within a week or so. I just have to cut and assemble more copies of Deep Time because I gratefully but unexpectedly sold all of them except the display copy.

Hello LOTS and LOTS of new followers! I see that my comic “Fantasy is a Metaphor for the Human Condition” has had a big surge of activity again. I made that comic back in 2018 and while my life looks different now, I’m really touched by what a journey that comic has had around the internet and all the myriad ways people have found meaning in it.

Anyways, did you know that there’s a print edition of that comic available? It’s part of a collection called Brain Damage Comix that collects many of the autobiographical comics I did while experiencing the worst of the PCS, including some stuff that will likely never make it online. I even printed a new three-color risograph edition last year! Currently available in here my Ko-Fi shop.

This weekend April 1st & 2nd I’ll be tabling at MoCCA Fest 2023 in NYC

Come see me at table 219 for the debut of two new minicomics--Zinefest 3000 and Deep Time--the Goblin Week riso prints I released earlier this year, and more!

Also check out the risograph demos by my pals from the SVA RisoLAB while you’re there.
